Our home is a 200+ year-old farmhouse, set in part of a hundred acre working dairy farm. It is in the section of Milltown called Ballyvirrane, and has a spectacular view out the front door of the Macgillycuddy Reeks and Ireland’s highest elevation, Carrauntoohill.
The house has 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, 2 functional fireplaces, a large family room with a fuel stove and a fully applianced modern kitchen. We have a TV, DVD player and wifi internet.
We supply linens, towels, blankets, pillows, dishes, silverware, etc. The Living Room sofa opens into a double bed.
The master bedroom has a 5' (US= Queen) bed and a full en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom has a 'triple bunk' bed--a single on top and a 4'6 (US=Full) on the bottom. It also has a 1/2 bath en-suite.
Milltown is a small village next to Killorglin, in County Kerry, southwest Ireland. Killarney, Tralee,
Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry are all approximately 20-30 minutes away. The house is a two hour drive from Shannon or Cork Airport and is only 20 minutes from Kerry Airport.
Milltown has pharmacies, hair salons, convenience stores, a Catholic church, hardware store, Chinese restaurant, butcher shop, Dentist and Doctor’s offices, petrol station, several pubs and riding stables around the corner from our house. Killorglin is a small city and has just about everything else you could possibly need. It has excellent gourmet restaurants as well as pubs, coffee shops, banks, sandwich shops, and a library.
There are several golf courses in the vicinity and fishing is also available nearby.
My husband and I fell in love with Ireland on our first trip here from the States, in 1997. In 1999 we found Spring Cottage and were lucky enough to purchase it in 2000. It had not been updated in many years, so we preserved the exterior and fully modernized the inside. It was a true labor of love.
We enjoy introducing Ireland to our friends and family and feel so blessed to have a home in Kerry.
Kathryn Shanahan purchased this cottage in 2000
The traditional Irish cottage is iconic. While ours has a slate roof, not thatched, its over 215 years old and holds a lifetime of memories for the family that sold it to us. We are fortunate to have gotten to know them and learn a little of its history.
We always enjoy it when the cows are visible in the adjacent grazing fields. In the late summer and Fall, the blackberry bushes provide a delicious treat. You can lay in the hammock and watch the the colors change on the mountains. Its a truly peaceful retreat.
We really enjoyed the house. It is not that far from the airport. Plus the drive was very scenic. They did a wonderful job making this house warm and cozy, while keeping the itegerity of the original house. We were close to various towns to go explore. If we come back to this area, we will book this house again. Thank you for a memorable experience.
Spring Cottage was well equipped and very clean. We appreciated the peace and quiet; the views are beautiful. The cottage itself is very comfortable. Kathy left a welcoming note, and there was a supply of food (milk, butter, bread (yum), eggs, in the fridge. There was also a coffeemaker and coffee available for use, as well as tea bags and other staples.
The beds were comfortable, and the shower worked great with a good amount of pressure.
The location of the cottage made for easy drives to the Dingle Peninsula and Ring of Kerry, but we only accomplished half of each on the days we visited. There was so much to see! Killorglin is just a very short drive away, and there is an Aldi's grocery there. We shop at Aldi's all the time in the states. Of course the selection is different, but we found the prices to be reasonable.
The only negative aspect of the cottage is that when the furnace kicks on, there is an odor that is fairly noticeable. The furnace is in an enclosed space in the main bedroom, but you can still smell the fumes when it starts up. Other than that, this is a great place to rent for anyone looking for a beautifully restored Irish Cottage.
We had a great week here. The cottage is very comfortable with all conveniences provided and located in a beautiful area with lovely views. Kathy made us most welcome and was easy to contact and communicate with. It was perfectly situated to enjoy all the wonderful sights of the region (rain and fog didn't stop us, although we had a white out on our day at the Ring of Kerry). The cottage is nicely renovated but I did have to remember to duck going into the bedroom and the bathroom was quite squeezy, but only to be expected in an old cottage. It did not stop us from enjoying our stay. This would suit a couple or a family for a short or long stay. Keith and Glenda, Australia.
It was everything we needed, to relax and refresh from a busy life. It is central to enjoy all of what the south part of Ireland has to offer. I have never slept before with such stillness and quietness surrounding me, so it was to no surprise it was 11am one morning when we woke up. Our hosts provided everything we needed to plan an exciting vacation. The local shops, and pubs greeted us as neighbours and it has been a joy to send our time here in your cottage. We will return some day with our whole family so they can experience the Irish culture, friendliness and amazing scenery . This has truly been a vacation of a lifetime.

Bringing our children to see Ireland for the first time, we felt so lucky to find such a wonderful place to stay at Spring Cottage. The cottage was so cute and had everything we could ever need and more. We just loved the whole setting! Spring Cottage is ideally located for exploring some of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. We did a lot of traveling seeing Blarney Castle, the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle and much much more! It was so nice to come home to Spring Cottage each night. We would definitely recommend staying at Spring Cottage to anyone looking to see some the most beautiful scenery in Ireland and we hope to stay again ourselves.
After a minor glitch in arrival times we had a lovely stay. Perfect location for sightseeing, close to two small towns for dinner if you don't want to cook, great wifi. We loved the Ring of Kerry but our favorite was the Dingle peninsula and going through the Conner pass. Awesome views! You definitely need a car to stay here. We would go back to Ireland and Spring cottage in a minute if we could!
