Treeloft Chalet Rental Photos and Description

Chalet, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Mountain living at its best. This recently renovated, luxurious chalet with Hot Tub, is nestled on the side of the mountain with relaxing views and only steps to Tryo Ski slope. Located on a quiet street, you will feel secluded in the tree tops but close to the center of Wintergreeen with all the adventures. In ski season, no need to hassle with shuttles or lugging your gear, upon arriving you can immediately hit the slopes for the best skiing in Virginia . When ready to take a break, head back to our chalet and warm yourself by the stone fireplace, fix a beverage at the bar, and slip into the hot tub.

Our home is eloquently decorated yet comfortably modest with furniture, antiques, and artwork from local shops and artisans. The home has vaulted ceilings throughout including the family room with new leather sofa, swivel chairs, TV with libraries of DVDs, books, and games. The kitchen has granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and is well furnished to prepare a gourmet meal for your family. There is a dry bar next to the kitchen and dining room with sliding doors leading to the deck and hot tub.

The master bedroom has a king size bed, new mattress, attached bathroom with river rock flooring, slate counter with vessel sink. The second king bedroom with new bedding has shared bathroom with natural stone flooring, hand made maple counter and stone vessel sink.

A spiral staircase leads to the third bedroom or bunk room with custom built in double bunk beds with trundle which sleeps up to six. There is a large TV/DVD and area which provides an escape for kids or adults.

It is a short walk or drive to the Black Rock Market, Mountain Inn, Spa, and all the incredible ammendities that Wintergreen resort has to offer. The town of Nellysford is only a few miles down the mountain with local groceries and many great restaurants. Appalachian trail is within steps of our house and the BlueRidge Parkway, George Washington National Forest, and Shirando State Park are within a three mile drive.

On your drive in or while you are here, please stop by some of Virginia's best wineries and breweries that are located off route 151.

Don't forget to take a hike to crabtree falls, said to be the highest waterfall in the Mid Atlantic.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about Wintergreen, activities, and surrounding areas.

Ski season: If you have already started looking for ski season, this home is one of the few houses that have direct access to the slopes. Although not a tru ski in/ski out, the house sets above tyro ski slope. You can watch the skiers go by from the house and when ready, walk across from house for direct access. Please see pictures of house and captions which show direct relation from house to slopes

About The Owner

The kids hanging out at the edge. If you look at their faces, this is why we love Wintergreen.

Cozy cabin ...minor issues

  • 3 of 5

My mom and dad both have November birthdays so my boyfriend and I invited them and my brother for a long weekend to celebrate. The google maps through the HomeAway app sent us to 112 squirrel tree for some reason so looking further into the address we found 81 but that was confusing. The steps going up to the cabin were steep and uneven and my dad has a bad hip and bringing luggage up was a challenge. The keypad that they say opens the door with a code is on the door with the storm door in front of it which I didn't find until trying to open the other door that you get to first with a keypad entry. That was frustrating but after finding that we went right in and found the cabin to be very clean and cozy. The tv was hard to work in the living room and the loft tv never did work for us. There were lightbulbs missing from some of the lighting in the house but that was just a minor detail. It was well equipped with wine glasses and kitchen items and the living room was very comfortable and the gas logs were nice to look at while sat around sipping cocktails. The beds were very comfy and the bedrooms had plenty of storage for your belongings. If you plan on staying here make sure no one in your group has issues with going up steps to get into the cabin it's not ideal and mostly covered with leaves which made it slippery. Other than that it was very nice.

Relaxing, fun weekend!

  • 4 of 5

We arrived Friday around 6pm, walked in and it was so hot! There isn't any central AC. One of my friends called Rod and after a few minutes playing phone tag we got a hold of each other and he walked us through step by step how to hook up the stand alone AC. Just had a very hard time dragging it up to the house. It cooled down the house within 30 minutes! It was great. But it leaked a lot of water and the maintenance guy never showed while we were on our wine tour. We should have called Rod but we were all tipsy and figured we'd just clean it up ourselves.

We had 8 of us total and we loved the house. Made dinner for everyone and there was enough room for us to spread out. The hot tub was easy to figure out. Minus the AC set back it was a great time! But there's something to be said about how helpful he was and you could tell he felt bad.

Good Stay with Massive Caveats

  • 3 of 5

House is in a great location.

Rod (the owner) is a very friendly.

But here is why I gave it 3 stars:

First thing started prior to the actual stay. After I made the final payment about couple of weeks before the arrival date, I had to send few messages to Rod before I could get the address and the instructions. That was not very good especially for planning the stay.

Second thing, when you arrive, especially at night around 10pm, you will see a door with keypad right in front of you. That is not the keypad you use to get in the house. In the dark, it was impossible to see the other door. So, better instructions would have saved at least 30 minutes. Called Rod and he helped. Help was good but frustrating with 7 people at dark

Third, the grill is effectively useless. It was very dirty and disgusting. No previous-cooked meat dirty, dirty as in leaves and spider web and crap dirty. So, we had to leave the gas on for 30 minutes to burn off all the crap before cooking. Clearly not very well-maintained. The owner probably bought this few years ago and never even looked at it. No or low heat; and ignition switch is a hit/miss. You can probably grill veggies on there but meat will not be fun. Uneven heat and many other issues. So, unless that small brown Kenmore grill is replaced, come prepared

Continuing on the grill issue, in the middle of the night while cooking food, the gas ran out. So, in the instructions there is no mention of where to get the spare tank. At this time, out of hurry and the fact that there were no instructions as to where a spare could be, we assumed there was no spare and we already had someone go to the market and get a new tank as we had to eat. Then I remembered that there was a mention of a circuit breaker being in the basement. Thought there might be one in there. Anyways, went to the basement and we saw a tank. We were happy, then we realized it was empty. Even the spare was empty! This was extremely frustrating with 7 people waiting on food! So, my friend had already gotten a new tank from the market. Market does not accept returns so we could not return the new tank and get the spare filled. So, firstly, put a clear instructions as to where the guests can get the spare tanks from and actually have the spare full in there. No one needs an empty spare! The good news is that Rod refunded for the tank, but the sour experience did not make it any better

Also the AC unit in the living room was leaking water and we had to put towel

Great family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this property. The bedrooms and bathrooms were great. The deck and hot tub were great. The kids loved the loft. Everything worked just fine. I can't wait to come back in ski season! The owner was very responsive. We are so glad we chose to rent this property!

Beautiful Cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin itself was wonderful, my friends and I enjoyed the property. The drive up the mountain to this location was interesting and a bit scary with the fog. Had great accommodations and a market with everything you could ever need two minutes away. It was a difficult getting in touch with the owner, often not responding to texts/messages/voicemails before and during the trip. There were some spiders upstairs and a few of my friends had to sleep on the floor, one complained of a "crusty pillow." Also, hardly any service in the area, make sure to plan ahead in terms of your gps or else you will get lost!!! Regardless of all of this, it was a beautiful place to stay at and for the price, worth it.
