This wonderful development is new and the condos here are lovely. The views are awesome, over looking the city lights and the beautiful volcanoes. You will never want to leave. maid service available ,if you want it. The Taxis cost from Quito airport to my Condo is between $60-$65. It is approximately one and half hour ride. There are many things to do and see in this area of Ecuador. Water falls, Hot mineral Springs, known as the healing baths. 15 minutes to Octavolo where the indigenous market is located. Hiking, fishing, many tours to keep you busy. Your vacation will be spectacular.
The condo itself is really beautiful, large and modern, and the views of the mountains are stunning. We arrived to a nice vase of flowers, some bottled water and coffee/coffeemaker, which was lovely. The neighbors in the complex were very friendly and helpful if we needed anything. The area is also beautiful; we spent some time in town (the Jora Festival parade was fantastic!), at the lake, went to Ibarra, Otavalo Market, and even made a day trip to Colombia.
However, we did encounter several challenges during our 11-day stay (some of which admittedly come with staying in a developing country):
-Directions to the property were not provided so we had to email from the road to get them
-We were given 18 poorly-labeled keys, which made it difficult to get in and out of the complex/condo
-The internet went down several times an hour, and sometimes for hours at a time
-The power went out three times
-The shower was either scalding or freezing
-The kitchen was missing some basics (fire extinguisher, wine opener, scissors, clean dish sponge, dish soap, etc.)
-There were no directions for laundry and how to get in (spent 15 minutes trying keys)
Overall, we had high expectations, but were a bit disappointed in the experience.
If you're looking for privacy this is perfect.
I love staying at these vacation rentals as it give me the choice of having a kitchen so I can have a relaxing morning with coffee and breakfast.
This place was in a complex that still has a few units for sale - some people were renting full time from owners and some were owners living on the property.
The space was very large - there were four of us and we each had a large bedroom. The road to the complex was a bit of a challenge to drive to - we had rented a car as we wanted to explore this area - Cotacachi, Otovalo, Chichimbiro and Ibarra.
My husband and I had the larger suite which had a Jacuzzi tub - unfortunalely the maintenance has not been kept us as every day there was a leak in the master bath and I was not sure about using this tub which was one of the features I was looking forward to when I selected this property.
The living area had a beautiful desk which was a wonderful place to do internet and the connection was excellent. There was a patio on the front which was a wonderful place to have morning coffee or tea, or just to sit and read a good book. The owner had placed a few interesting books that were of great interests to us and were able to read them as we were there a week. The living room had very comfortable couches and chairs. There was a fireplace in the living room and in the master bedroom, but we had a difficult time in finding out how to get wood, paper and small pieces of wood to get a fire started.
The kitchen had a lot of counter space but was not fully equipped as advertised. The skillet was designed for 2 people and there was only one. There was a coffee pot but no tea pot for those who like tea in the morning or even afternoon tea time.
The owner uses a local lady who was very helpful in acknowledging the problems and also was glad to show us some other properties in the area - Yolanda with the local Remax.
I would definitely stay in this place as long as the maintenance was maintained.
Beautiful property, but could use a few tweaks,
There were no tools for the fireplace, we bought some tongs and left them there.
Could use more info on walks and directions to the laundry.
All in all though, a great stay, and neighbours that made us very welcome and tried to persuade us to buy a condo
We were blown away with the condo. It was unclear how to get there but we figured it out and were greeted with huge rooms and vases of roses. The whole place was lovely and very secure. It seemed like the entire complex were expat retirees so it was very quiet and our neighbors were extreme nice. It was great to have room for our young children to run around. We loved Cotacachi and the surrounding areas. It was easy to drive to from Quito and we hope to come back again someday. We'll definitely stay here again!
There is tons of things to see in the Catacachi area. Hot mineral baths, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, indigenous markets for shopping. Cotacachi is notorious for there leather products. La Mirage is the place to go for a day retreat, full of fun and relaxation. Massages are wonderful there. My favorite message is the eucalyptus message.
