About John Musgrove

My wife was born and raised in the Marquette area and we absolutely love Upper Peninsula. When we had the opportunity to purchase this getaway in 2013 we could not pass on it. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

John Musgrove purchased this house in 2013

Why John Musgrove chose Gwinn

Michelle and I wanted a place to relax and enjoy life with our four kids. We were so pleased to find this beautiful getaway in the community we much. Sadly our careers afford us very little time to enjoy this great getaway. While we look forward to the day we can call this place home we are unable to at this time so we are able to share it with you. We hope many families are able to enjoy this little piece of Pure Michigan..

What makes this house unique

This property is quiet and relaxing. The view from the bay windows are spectacular. The fall colors are absolutely stunning and the amount of snow we get is ridiculous.

Relaxing and cozy

  • 5 of 5

This cottage far exceeded our expectations. The pictures just didn't do it justice. We were so impressed /shocked at how thoughtful the owners were... Stocked spices, loads of kitchen gadgets, coffee filters, towels, blankets, board games, books, even sticks to toast marshmallows outside... It was as if someone was living there! (We've stayed in vacation rentals before that were nice but not nearly as 'stocked and thoughtful'.) All of us appreciated all of the little details so much!

We all wished we could stay longer- it was so relaxing and cozy. We will definitely be recommending this cottage to everyone who wants to take a trip to the U.P.

My family had an awesome experience at this cottage!! The flexibility of the owners, the coziness of the place and waking up with coffee and peering out on the lake in the morning was so peaceful!...thanks for the wonderful experience and hoping to return in the future!!

Perfect for our multi-generational family

  • 5 of 5

We appreciated the small details. If we are able to come back next year, there is so much we know we will not have to take. For example, the house has a ton of towels, camp chairs, fishing poles, games, plenty of firewood, laundry detergent, coffee filters and even calamine lotion. We were pleasantly surprised to find the house so well equipped.

The variety of watercraft was perfect for our multi-generation group. There was something for everyone. The rowboat can handle an electric motor. We will bring ours next year so the grandkids don't have to row Grandpa out to go fishing.

There is a very friendly swan on the lake that we enjoyed. We googled it and lettuce is good for them. Out kayaking, my sister, husband and I had an eagle fly over us. We were able to get in very close to him/her as it perched on a treetop near the water's edge.

My only complaint is that the mattresses were quite firm. Having said that, I am already planning our 2018 trip back to this house.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much! We do want our guest to feel at home. We try to have everything you may need whether it be firewood, blender, infant life vest or crock pot our goal is that you only need to bring your suitcase. Thanks for the great feedback on the firm mattress. We have replace 3 of the mattresses for next season , Thanks so much, John & Michelle

Lakefront Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was a great home base for my husband, daughter, me, and two sets of grandparents. We enjoyed many hours paddling around in the paddle boat, row boat, and kayaks. We were a short drive from the local gas station and grocery store and about a 30 minute drive from Marquette (which we did almost every day with no issue). The cottage had all the amenities we'd want and more that I didn't realize we needed. There were blow up toys for the lake, baby life vests, extra sun hats, fans, coloring books, and many other indoor & outdoor games and books available for all ages. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a great vacation!

Gwinn Vacation Property

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful time at the lake house property. It was so nice to have all the outdoor equipment for the kids and grand kids to enjoy! The first thing we did after unpacking was to jump in the kayaks and paddle boat and head out on the lake. Enjoyed many campfires, pool games and relaxing on the shore each day. It was very nice not to have to pack linens, towels and beach chairs, to name a few. Many board games and indoor activity items were provided as well to keep you busy if we had a rainy day. It was nice for my grand kids to have the house right on the lake, they could play in the lake, which is very shallow for quite a ways out, there was no worry and they felt safe with the shallow waters. The house was located in close proximity to Marquette, Pictured Rocks and many waterfalls to see. I would highly recommend this property for a vacation.

Relaxing Lake Front House

  • 4 of 5

We were very happy with our stay. The house is situated at the end of a private road, and has a nice little row boat and some kayaks for use around the lake. The fire pit was our evening hangout. The house features a full laundry, ample space to spread out, cable TV, and wireless internet, and master suite on the main floor.

We would definitely come back.
