This lake home is truly a must see. The artist/owners have sculpted this home into a work of art that will delight you at every turn. Pay special attention to the stonework on the exterior foundation and the fieldstone fireplace in the living room...there are special vintage items embedded in the mortar that will bring back memories of yesteryear. From the moment you walk in the door you will be greeted by lake views and vintage collectibles decorating every room.
The kitchen is a gourmet's dream. The commercial gas stove griddle, and double ovens make creating your meals a pleasure. The center island is perfect for your guests to cozy up to and enjoy your company as you are cooking. It also makes a great serving area for mealtimes.
The master suite is phenomenal-from the french doors as you enter, to the master bath with hand crafted mosaic murals in the shower to the atrium door leading to the deck. The jacuzzi tub for two will relax you and the walk in steam shower and double shower have ample body sprays to invigorate you.
Right of the MBath is the walk in closet which also has a Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer. There is also access to the indoor/outdoor dog kennel from this room.
The large windows are strategically placed to allow maximum natural light along with stunning lake views from every room of the home.
There is a large room on the second level that is currently used as an art studio. Lake views dominate the room and are sure to stir your creative juices. Banquet tables are available for quilting and scrapbooking or any other art project you may have. A library and reading nook are also at the other end of this spacious room.
Have you always wanted to live in a log home-here is your chance! The upper level bedroom and bath have been painted to recreate that cozy feel of a northwoods cabin. It's westerned themed decorating and painted log walls will make you right at home with a wagon wheel double bed and a set of bunk beds and a queen sleeper sofa come bedtime.
The family/entertainment room offers the lake views that by now you have become accustomed to. There is a beautiful bar to help entertain your friends. This mancave or game room sports neon signs, nostalgic finds, large TV with Wii sport games and movies. It has a private balcony overlooking beautiful Lake Ann. When the games and movie are over it will also make a great sleeping area with a Lazy Boy sofa that folds out with a queen size mattress.
Another surprise is found on the 3rd level of the home. There is a study that offers a secluded place for you to enjoy a book or just sit and watch the sun come up over beautiful Lake Ann. A pair of binoculars and the spledid wildlife will entertain you. This room also sports a queen sleeper sofa additional sleeping.
Let's not forget about the 2 car garage with the lake views. This is another great room with fantastic lake views...yes, even in the garage. You can park your cars inside and their is ample shelving for your pantry items and a bar mixing area. Leave the cars outside and opt for some banquet tables for additonal space for seating or games.

If you were to take the TV show 'American Pickers' and crossed it with 'American Restorations' you would get a good idea of Angela & Ken. Angela is the artist with a passion for collecting great stuff and incorporating it into her decorating, while Ken has a background in the Body Shop business and uses his talent to restore many of Angela's finds. They were both born and raised in the small rural towns of Winsted and Waverly.
They lived in Arizona for 13 years then and decided to move 'back home'. Thus began the next chapter of their life. It started by renovating a 1865 bank building where they resided in the cool studio apartment above what was to become WHAT NEXT ?*! ART STUDIO. It was a fabulous space for Angela to share her passion of collecting and the arts. They then acquired a 1930's Garage with 7,500 sq feet of one project after another. For the past 15 years this building has kept them busy. What was once considered an eyesore and slated for tear down for a parking lot has since been transformed into one of the landmark buildings in Waverly. Once again, Ken and Angelas collection of vintage signs are covering the front of this building to share for everyones enjoyment.
They also built their dream home on Lake Ann in Howard Lake, MN. Many details were lovingly thought out and placed in their home. They are now putting the Welcome matt out to VRBO so others can enjoy their all their hard work and inspiration they put into dream home. 'It is so much fun to see someone experiencing our home for the first time. There are so many details to take in that people are mesmerized by it'. Come experience it for yourself!
They are also putting the welcome matt out to creative crafters that love scrapbooking, quilting and beading. The art studio is the perfect open space to set up tables and do your thing! Enjoy the view of the fireplace from the second open story and ample lake views to get your creative juices flowing.
A great spiritual retreat too
Angela Lachermeier purchased this house in 2004
We chose to build our 'Dream Home' on Lake Ann in Howard Lake because it is close to family. Our family resides within a 5 mile radius. It is a great home for entertaining and having potlucks in the large kitchen.
I love the convenient location which is rural and private, but still close to town if you need something from the grocery store. It is 1/2 mile from Cnty Rd 6 and 1.5 miles from US Hwy 12. Another plus is that it is only a 5 minute drive to the Art Studio/Body Shop in Waverly. There is plenty of small town charm in all the local communites just a short distance away along with ample lakes.
This property is an inspiration and tends to get your imagination soaring. A perfect location to host a quilting party or scrapbooking event! Lightweight and portable plastic tables allows the crafters to make their own set up that works for them.
Lots of natural light throughout the home aides in a host of activities.
We have also just purchased a pontoon that is available to rent during your stay making it nice and convenient to take a tour of Lake Ann and go fishing or enjoy the wonderful sunsets on the water.
Unique benefits you can enjoy at our property is the easy access to the water and above ground pool. We have a pontoon, canoe and paddle boards for rent. There are two level grass areas that are perfect for throwing balls or Frisbees and a sandy area we have dubbed as Gilligans Island with a hammock.
There are so many places to sit down, relax and enjoy the serene lake setting. One of my favorite places is on the wrap around deck. It is the perfect place to have that morning cup of coffee by yourself or the company of your family. If there is a chill in the air, the breakfast nook still gives you the spectacular lake views as does just about every seat in the house. It was designed that way. Another favorite spot could be the private balcony off the 2nd story game room and lets not forget about the 3rd story lookout tower. The panoramic views from this height are truely breathtaking.
Gilligans Island also offers a comfortable place to swing in the hammock for two. The sand under your toes and the shade of the trees are sure to take you away from the hussle and bussle of daily life.
This dog friendly property is set up with an invisible fence (collar required) that keeps Rover from jumping in the lake or getting too close to the road. The long lower lot is the perfect place to throw the ball for some needed exercise. The indoor/outdoor dog kennel is also equipped with a 40' high fence and an access gate to the back yard.
This beautiful lake home boasts the benefits of a rural country lake setting while being only 5 minutes from restaurants, groceries, shopping, bait and a sport shop. There is a variety of other lakes within a couple of miles of Howard Lake. Many have public beaches and lake access. There is always something going on for entertainment and many of the small towns in the vicinity have their town events which usually include festivities for the children, food, music and entertainment. Never the less, you will find activities to suit your needs
What a fun relaxing weekend! Perfect for a handful of moms to get away and not wipe anyone's anythings! ;-)
Great Room was fantastic to all feel like we were hanging OUT together but not on top of eachother, cooking was fun, etc. (would have loved a bigger table to all eat a nice dinner at, but that's just being picky)
Fun place, very hospitable hostess, great location and quiet relaxing place. We'll be back!
We stayed in this wonderful home from Sep 12 - 20, what a great time we had. You will want for nothing in this home - just bring your personal items and pick up groceries at the nearby market. The kitchen is completely furnished with more dishes, pots and pans, utensils, etc. than you will be able to use. Speaking of the kitchen, the commercial grade stove/oven/griddle inspired me to prepare all of our meals in the house - a first for me on vacation! We used the BBQ on the grill that sits on the patio - steaks and grilled potatoes never tasted so good. The setting is very relaxing, right on the lake. We enjoyed sitting on the patio that overlooks the lake and taking in the sights of the wildlife (mostly the flying and swimming kind). Everyday we saw bald eagles, from young to mature - impressive. The surrounding area is rural, lots of farms and agricultural which makes for a serene setting. We did some antique shopping, tasted wine at local wineries, and a couple of days we didn't leave the house, we read, listened to music, we really enjoyed unwinding in this beautiful house. We went to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival two of the days we were there, what a blast. The house has a marvelous layout, high ceilings, open, but yet a place for everyone, and the way the house is decorated is very cool. Lots of treasures to feast your eyes upon - colorful, fun, tasteful. As far as activity, this house has everything to offer, if you want a lot of activity, the lake and boat are awaiting, if you want relaxation, find your little spot in the house and enjoy your quiet time. Angela's Art Studio on the second level is a child's dream - I loved that room, so cute. Angela also has quite a collection of decorating, cook, craft, and art books that I looked through on a daily basis - the cookbooks were great for preparing meals and the decorating books were great for building that dream house in my mind. The last note that I want to make is about Angela - warm, funny, she could be anyone's friend, we only spent a small time together, but she is the kind of person who makes you feel comfortable and welcome. We were sorry that our time in this great house came to an end because we loved it so much. If you are looking for a great vacation home, stop right here, because you have found it!
We had the best week in this fun and unique lakehome! Lots of room and very comfortable. It felt very private and the views from the inside windows and from the outside balcony are beautiful! We enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen. Angela and Ken responded right away whenever we had any questions and always made us feel welcome. We rented a waverunner from Chartered Rentals in Annandale and also used their pontoon. There was never a day that there were more than two other boats on the lake and that was so nice!
Our family went for our annual summer VRBO vacation and this was our first year at Angela and Ken's home. We had so much fun and with our 5 young children there was plenty to do. Along with ourselves, our 3 girls and 2 boys had fun, fishing, boating, swimming in the lake and pool as well as making use of the game room, art room and a little park to play not far from town. Even though the lake was pretty green it did not detour our kids from swimming in it often. The majority of the time was spend in the recently added bladder pool, SO NICE! I hope they keep it.
On 2 separate occasions we had family and friends come to enjoy some grilling and the huge home with us and all it offered for entertainment. The home is bright and eclectic, tons to look at. The kids were all pleased to eventually catch "dog fish", they were huge and yucky but the kids loved the thrill. The local bait shop told us that there's plenty of bass, walleye and northern in the lake, but we had no luck with them. Angela and Ken were friendly, warm and inviting and very close and helpful for anything we might have needed.
The only things I can maybe see as con's are the master bed on wheels was slightly inconvenient and hard to sleep on at times. Also, our youngest is just one year old and it was tough to keep him away from all the breakables. These were so minor to us that it didn't merit hurting the overall rating, especially since the risk of breakables was a known topic for us upon purchase simply by looking at the pictures.
I must say these are very small things in comparison to the wonderful vacation home and all the special memories we made here. I'd recommend it to anyone and you get a big thumbs up from this large family of 7. Thank you so much!
My family set up an early summer vacation at the request of our oldest grand-daughter who graduated from high school this year. Last year she approached us, and asked if we could do a vacation at a house on a lake, before she left for college. We have done various type of vacation over the years, but we had never done anything like this. Upon arrival, our first reaction was, "WOW!" The house is something like we've never seen before, bold, bright, and beautiful from top to bottom. This house is fully furnished, there was nothing that we needed that we couldn't find. The lake and the views, absolutely stunning! Angela and Ken went above and beyond to accomodate all of us. It felt as though I had known them for sometime, even though we just met. We rented the pontoon and the paddle boards and brought our own kayaks. Every day was a whole new adventure for each one of us! Fishing was a favorite of the guys, even though some got away! I asked my grand-daughter the night before we were to leave, if this vacation was what she wanted it to be, her words."Everything and then some!" My daughter asked if we could come back next year before we even left. Words cannot do justice for this oustanding serene property.
My family traveled to MN for my son's graduation, and stayed at this house located near Howard Lake, MN. The house met all our needs. The owner supplies everything except food, clothes and toiletries! No need to bring towels, eating utensils, etc. There is a pontoon and other boats available for use, but we didn't have time to do that. The house is full of the owner's life time of collecting, and there is no lack of items to look at and admire, and if you like color, there is no lack of that either. :) The owner was a joy to work with, and very prompt with her communication. I give the house 5 stars, but for some reason my computer isn't letting me choose that.
Winstock Country Music Festival is in June. Just a 5 minute ride south to Winsted, MN. Sleep in the comfort of beds and enjoy the quick commute to the festival.
Good Neighbor Days is in June in Howard Lake. Wright County Fair is 5 minutes away in Howard Lake and is in August.
