About the property

Large victorian 17mls to Chautauqua

Jamestown is a city in southern Chautauqua County, New York, in the United States. The population was 31,146 at the 2010 census. Situated between Lake Erie to the northwest and the Allegheny National Forest to the south, Jamestown is the largest population center in the county. Nearby Chautauqua Lake is a fresh water resource enjoyed by fishermen, boaters and naturalists. Chautauqua Institution is approximately 17 miles away, offering music, theater, educational classes and lectures for nine weeks during the summer.

Jamestown today:Beginning with the construction of the $26 million dual-pad, state-of-the-art Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena in 1990, private-public partnerships resulted in a number of revitalization projects in the downtown.

Close to 30 facades restorations of downtown buildings will be accomplished by the end of 2012 through public/private partnerships with JRC. The Alley Enhancement Program, another public/private partnership resulted in the enhancement of five alleyways in the downtown core, making them more attractive and safe for pedestrian traffic. In one of the alleys, JRC worked with Jamestown Community College and Jamestown High School to create a public art installation called Potters gallery. In 2010, JRC spearheaded the demolition of a deteriorated movie theater, the Wintergarden Theater, and converted the space into an attractive public downtown park.

Notable people from the Jamestown area include comedienne Lucille Ball; Natalie Merchant, Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson; naturalist Roger Tory Peterson; and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Products developed in Jamestown include the crescent wrench and automatic voting machines.

Jamestown was once called the 'Furniture Capital of the World' where people visited from all over the country to attend furniture expositions at the Furniture Mart, a building that still stands in the city and currently houses offices for a variety of companies.

This huge Victoria home reminds you of an era gone by. spacious and simple furniture. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs and a full bathroom. This house is situated on an extra large corner lot so there is plenty of space. Walking distance to the ice arena and JBC, restaurants. Close to Lakewood and mall, Sam's club and Walmart.

Very unique

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a unique place to stay and you don't need the "perfect" house, well this would be perfect.

It is still "under construction" but it does not hinder a stay.

The bedrooms were clean, bedding was clean, kitchen and bathrooms were clean.

Everything was provided, so you don't have to worry about much but food and drinks.

The couches, you kinda sink in a bit. For some it may be an issue but we were OK with it.

There were some cobwebs & dead flies in corners but nothing crazy.. like a house that gets rented out sometimes has.

The stairs to the bathroom with the shower are very steep (as houses built in the 1800's have) so take that into consideration if you have step issues. Half bath and master bedroom on the 1st floor but the shower is upstairs.

Chandra was great, very helpful and very nice.

Overall, we liked it and plan to stay in contact with Chandra to get renovation updates. Once they get more done, we'd like to go back and check it out.

Owner's Response: Hi Rebecca It was nice to have you. People who want a bargain price don't expect the "perfect house" with that price. I'm not sure about you but unless you are a heavy person the couches are fine. I'm sure it's more difficult for heavier persons. They are large couches This house is advertised as an older house and at a bargain price. I'm sure there are many "perfect houses" around here but I know the price is much higher. This area demands a high price in the summer so I believe that was a concern for you when you made the choice. Best Chandra.

Very nice place for our family

  • 4 of 5

Chandra, the owner was very nice and prompt in responding to questions. The house is very cool inside. I don't know when it was built but it is full of character. The furniture and beds were all comfortable and new. It served us well. I would recommend it!

Owner's Response: This was one of the best families that I ever hosted. Michael was kind and friendly and easy to communicate with. They followed all the house rules and when they checked out they left the house incredibly clean and in order. These are the kinds of guests that gives hosting the warm and fuzzy feelings. I can't wait for them to return again.
