Palmas Rojas is uniquely situated in the village of Sierpe - gateway to Drake Bay and many travel activities. Our 3 bedroom home allows for modern comforts along the Ester Azul River which connects to the Sierpe RIver and access to the Pacific Ocean.
Enjoy morning coffee as the Howler Monkeys wake up the surrounding wildlife. Eco-Tour boats pass along the bank looking for wildlife on the banks. Head into the village to book your days activity. FIshing Charter can pick up on the property edge to spend a day fishing the river or fishing around Cano Island. Jump on the bicycle and head into the village to get supplies for your days meals or enjoy the local restaurants. Relax at the house pool and enjoy the local flora and wildlife.
If you are looking for a place off the beaten path in Costa Rica, for a quiet getaway this is the place. We loved sitting in the back yard and seeing many varieties of tropical birds. iguanas, and much more. The estero azul river is just down a short path from the house. There is a dock too. We were excited that the owner let us use the two person kayak. We Kayaked a total of 5 miles on two different days of the trip. We were able to go on our own tour of the river and see the birds, waterfowl, small crocs, etc... We saw many people on paid pontoon tours of the river. We were excited to have the opportunity to take the tour on our own for free! The lodging was fantastic! The A/C worked great. The pool was refreshing. There were bicycles available, we didn't end up using them. Towels are apparently provided here, but they were all very old and looked like they had been to the beach a time or two. No wash cloths or hand towels to be found.
Sierpe is a very secluded town. It took us about 20 minutes of driving to get to the town from the nearest highway. There are some day excursion companies in the town of Sierpe. You might want to book a trip with one of them if you are spending a long time in Sierpe. In the town of Sierpe, there's not really anything to do.
We went to La Perla rentals and booked the Corcavado boat ride/ guided hike. Jorge the owner, gave us a rate of $80 a person USD. It was worth every penny to see Corcavado. We had Robbie and Luis as our guides.
We were in Sierpe for 4 nights. We ate out at La Perla restaurant two times.... It was just ok. One night, we drove to Palma Norte and bought groceries to cook at the house. One night we drove an hour North to Uvita and ate at Restaurante La Dona. Delicious big portions. I would highly recommend seeing Ballena Nacional Parque if you are near Uvita. Beautiful beach.
I highly recommend that you rent a car if you stay here. Also, as a general rule, I recommend that you rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle in Costa rica. This property didn't require 4 wheel drive to get to it, but there is about 2 miles that you will drive on.
I highly recommend this rental.
Our family loved staying at this beautiful home. I have two boys ages 17 and 14 and there was no shortage of adventures! What I found so great about the location was that many of the local tours would pick up and drop off right at our dock. This made everything so much more convenient. The boys and I also felt very safe at the property.
A few of the expeditions that we went on that I highly recommend were fishing off of Cano Island with our guide Pablo - http://www.sierpe-fishing.com.
Hiking through Corcovado National Park.
Checking out the waterfall in Uvita.
Lastly, Shani and Ronald took care of all of our needs while we stayed at the house. They were both very responsive and catered to our every need.
I highly recommend this property.
We could not have asked for more.
The home is spacious and well-appointed. Among the 5 of us, we had 2 serious cooks; each was at home in the beautiful kitchen.
For all of us, awakening to sunrises out the front of the house, the howlers in the distance and wide variety of birds was spectacular. These were only matched by the beauty of the sunsets over the river on the backside of the house in the evening. We ventured on the river in the kayak and will remember field guides on future trips.
The local community was engaging.
This is a destination for the record for planning a return trip.
Thank you for a relaxing end to what was a trying mission experience the prior 2-3 weeks.
Our family of 6 adults stayed for 10 days and it was the most amazing vacation we could ever hope for. Quiet peaceful setting with tons of birds, small reptiles, and even monkeys were heard in the distance every morning. Easy to find and only 40 min from Uvita or Hermosa beaches which were our choices. The care takers were helpful with anything we needed and the town of Sierpe is a nice quiet safe town to launch just about any activity you are looking for. Be sure to use Vamos car rental just off the airport. A must do excursion is the ATV mountain tour in Uvita!
I mostly enjoyed that scenery and fishing. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would love to go back. The property is large enough for a big group and with 3 bedrooms there was enough room for everyone. The village nearby had a small grocery store with fresh produce, a couple of delicious restaurants with that day's catch and there is also a snorkeling/fishing excursion company that does a great job. About 30 minutes away is a great surf down with great beaches for the kids. The owner was very helpful in my planning process.
Located across the Ester Azul RIver in the village of Sierpe. Many activities can be planned with tour guides in the village. Bird watching in the mangroves, river fishing, ocean fishing, mountain biking, river tours, howler monkey tours, snorkeling and scuba diving on Cano Island. Food and beverage dining available in SIerpe.
The location of the house is real private and quiet. Spend the morning sitting by the river listening to the sounds of nature. Cool off in the afternoon and evening in the house pool watching the sunset. Take a drive and check out the surf towns Dominical and Uvita.
