About Ida

Lucky for me, my parents moved our family to Idyllwild and into this house when I was a child. I was lucky enough to be afforded the opportunity to grow up in this amazing town. I grew up writing poetry on the deck with only moonlight to illuminate the page, climbing rocks, building snowmen and having many snowball fights with my brother and sister. There were many 'White Chirstimas' mornings and Thanksgiving day hikes. My family still gathers at the house to share laughter, love and tales of life's experiences. It is a place we will always call home and I am excited to share it with you.

Ida purchased this lodge in 1976

Why Ida chose Inland Empire

This home was built in 1945, by Lou Britton and has since been owned by the Famous Mystery Author, Earle Stanley Gardner, whose ownership created a local nickname of 'The Mystery Cabin.' I try to create that same sense of awe upon your arrival that I felt as a child walking through the giant wood door and looking up onto the sky high knotty pine ceilings! Wow!

What makes this lodge unique

Five minute walk to the centre of Idyllwild's restaurants, shopping, music, and art galleries. The homeowner's family has vacationed and lived in Idyllwild for over 46 years and is committed to providing you and your family with personal service to optimmize your stay with us.

Fantastic home, Wonderful host

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! The owner had fresh baked dessert, fresh fruit for juicing and candy gift cards for each of our children. We loved the rustic feel and fireplace. Kitchen is well set up for a preparing meals. Jumping in a hot tub after a long hike in the mountains was also a highlight. For those with kids, it is great to have two bedrooms away from the master bedroom. Overall, a great home and we plan to stay here again!

A delightful weekend!

  • 5 of 5

When we first opened the door to Ida's Mountain retreat we knew we had chosen the right cabin. It was very charming and inviting, There was 8 of us, and there was plenty of space for all of us. We barbecued, used the jacuzzi and played games by the fire. The dining room was perfect for our family meals. The view from the Windows was awesome. My little niece was thrilled seeing the deer outside. And, of course, the town of Idylwild is charming.

Also, the details were amazing. We made fresh squeezed OJ in the morning, with the oranges provided by Ida. And the home made breads were great!

Thank you Ida!

fantastic house with lots of great features

  • 5 of 5

We maxed out the capacity and still had a very comfortable enjoyable experience in this great house. Every detail was considered, there are lots of amenities and thoughtful touches. Also, the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with everything you need to cook all your meals. It is great to be on a large property and fairly secluded while being close to town. The manager was extremely helpful, considerate and it is obvious she takes a lot of pride in the property. There are lots of places to lounge, especially a great wrap around balcony with a fantastic view. We had very young children their and it is pretty kid proof, although it would hurt to bring a gate for the stairs.
