Comfortable beach cottage just steps from Long Sands Beach with 3 bedrooms (2 Queens, 1 Full size) and two baths, full kitchen, fireplace, cable and Wifi intenet access. This is a great spot to enjoy the best that Maine has to offer from the beaches to scenic drives, walks, local golf, and cycling routes to unique villages of York and Ogunquit and even outlet shopping in nearby Kittery there is something for everyone.
Although we currently live in NJ - our family roots are here in Maine where we vacationed every summer since I was born (way too long ago).
Rick Hurst purchased this cottage in 1950
Our beachfront home was built by my grandparents and has been with us ever since. It has always been a favorite spot for our family vacations.
The funny thing that makes me totally relax is the smell of the ocean air from when you first arrive to the first look out over the ocean. Just watching the surf and listening to the sounds of the seashore is one of the most tranquil and soothing experiences I can imagine. The compliment to this is the plethora of outstanding local restaurants and taverns with the best New England Clambakes anywhere.
Great location - literally steps away from the beach! Convenient and cozy for 5 adults. Having 2 bathrooms, dishwasher and laundry a plus. Disappointed we did not have access to beach chairs ,(Long Sands is a rocky beach),although we contacted owner prior to / and during our stay. Miscommunication somewhere along the line as to where appropriate key for shed was located. Need car to get to other restaurants or activities - went to Short Sands which is only a short drive (15 mins with traffic). Our stay was comfortable, place was tidy , but lacked in a few detail housekeeping issues. Enjoyed the back deck, less traffic and noise. Had a great stay and would consider revisiting.
Great place. Very clean even if not new. Having 2 living rooms is great. Beds comfortable. Solid comfortable furniture (even if not recent). The fact that there are two bedrooms and a bathroom on one side and the other one at opposite of the house is practicle in the morning with kids. Nice screened veranda but a bit noisy when there is traffic. Very well equipped kitchen. So close to the beach that you can almost yell "supper's ready". Nice back veranda also (Less noisy).
Beach is very nice and clean althoug a bit small at high tide. You don't have to bring too much as you can always return within a minute or two. We appreciated that it is a residential area (less noise from stores and restaurants). If you want to dine out, you have to take the car beacause there are not many restaurants around at walking distance.
There was a bit of confusion between the internet info and what is marked on the fridge inside: cleaning or not??? Linen and towels. How to dispose of recycling (inside or outside). We also think there should be more pictures on the internet site. We also took the liberty of greasing the screened door hinges (they woke the kids when opening and closing).
But at the end, it was a beautiful stay and the grand children enjoyed it very much.
We would recommand it any time.
