Feel at ease in this clean, comfortable, completely furnished and equipped home in beautiful Fairfield, Connecticut. It's ready and waiting for you to stay for vacation or in between residences. All utilities are included, as are linens, pots and pans, laundry, and off-street parking. And the beach is right nearby!

It's easy to relax at Osprey House because it is both charming and clutter-free. You will enjoy leisurely strolls to salt marshes, marina, beaches, parks, restaurants, historic green, and town center shops. Freshly refurbished and elegantly furnished, this cozy two-story house in a lively family neighborhood features a gracious front porch for lounging and people-watching.

Everyone will sleep comfortably on new king and twin mattresses (sleeps 4). The master bedroom, which is in the front of the house, is bright and airy. A second bedroom, in the back of the house, offers two twin beds. A full bath with tub and shower is handy to the bedrooms.

Prepare meals in the equipped kitchen (no dishwasher) with local farmers market produce, order a gourmet feast from local caterers, or become a regular at the many fine area restaurants. Carry-out and delivery widely available. Stop & Shop and Whole Foods are an easy drive, as are CVS, Office Max, and several liquor stores. Trader Joe has an outpost not too far away. The charming dining room comfortably seats six. Glassware, dishes, cutlery included. Paper goods and plasticware also available.

Washer, gas dryer, and clothes line on the basement level.

Bring your canoe or kayak and carry it to the free town launch (just steps away) and see the ospreys and egrets up close! Bring rod & reel and fish from nearby shore and jetty. Stroll to the marina and see the sailboats and motorboats. Or just bask on the beach and take a dip in Long Island Sound -- beach chairs provided! A shady back yard offers a pleasant spot to read a book. A one-car garage that locks provides a safe place for bicycles, small water craft, and paddle boards.

Enjoy outdoor summer concerts -- free on the town green and at the beach -- and consider a round of golf at the public courses. Cultural activities abound year-round at local universities and theaters. Movie theaters are nearby. Fishing party boats go out from Captain's Cove in neighboring Black Rock.

A 1-hr direct train ride to NYC's Grand Central Station, this property is convenient to two stations. It is less than a mile from Interstate 95. On the second floor, a well-organized in-home office with desk, chair, land line telephone, file storage, and bookshelf offers a dedicated space for professional or creative pursuits. High-speed Internet is available throughout the property.

About Dolores Abbott

I am a long-time Fairfield person. I grew up in Fairfield, attended Fairfield University, met my husband and was married in Fairfield. Publishing professionals, my husband and I now reside in nearby Trumbull, Ct.

My standards of cleanliness for this rental property are very high. It is thoroughly cleaned between guests. All the linens and dishes are carefully washed, as well. I aim to exceed my guests' expectations of comfort during their stays.

Dolores Abbott purchased this house in 1953

Why Dolores Abbott chose Fairfield County

Five beaches, restaurants galore, easy access to NYC, quaint New England charm, Par 3 Golf! I grew up in this house and am the second generation to own it. My family vacations in it for part of the year, so we can highly recommend it as a terrific place to relax and refresh. We particularly enjoy the vast selection of area restaurants and cultural activities available in the area. Fishing, beach, and kayak launch are just steps away.

What makes this house unique

The property is thoughtfully equipped for comfortable, elegant living. It offers more space to spread out and live than any hotel setting. It is sunny and bright and well located relative to transportation, entertainment, fine dining, and beach.

The house's proximity to the shoreline, the historic Fairfield town green, and the town center make it dear to our hearts. We especially enjoy observing beach life as we walk along the shore and the Beach Road and Old Post Road areas.

The Fairfield Museum and History Center is walking distance--George Washington evidently spent a night at historic Sun Tavern on the old town green, where stately homes from the colonial era survive only because they were owned by Tories and so were spared when British forces burned the town during the American Revolution. The elegant Burr Mansion is just about a mile away. The First Church Congregational on the town green is graced with Tiffany windows.

Riverside Drive bustles with pedestrians, dog walkers, bikers, skaters, children on scooters -- and every once in a while a 5K runs past the house! And yet, watching the sun come up over Long Island Sound, or seeing an osprey catch a fish with its powerful talons, is as inspiring as it is exhilarating. This is a precious, carefully tended family home. We are happy to share it with you.

Perfect for our holiday stay!

  • 5 of 5

Osprey House was our home away from home for the Christmas holiday this year, so that we could be close to family and our new granddaughter. I wanted something special given the occasion, and couldn't have been more pleased that it was all just as described and more. The owner anticipated our needs, including the offer of a table-top Christmas tree all lit up to greet us upon arrival, a basket of treats, and good communication all along. We made good use of the well-equipped kitchen, including baking and cooking our contributions for the holiday party, and we appreciated the formal dining room and super-comfy couches in the living room. The lovely windowed front room was a delightful spot for morning coffee. Weather was unseasonable warm, so we also walked down to the marina and beach which are quite nearby (and make me think this is a great spot for summer as well). We made good use of the washer and dryer in the basement as well. This home is remarkably clean and well-maintained, with charming details. We certainly look forward to a future visit!

Cozy, clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at Osprey House, and it was ideal for my family of four. Very clean and comfortable, and it came equipped with everything we needed. Plus, it was close to the beach, shops, and restaurants. The owner was also very helpful and answered all of our questions promptly. All in all, a great stay.

Sweet comfortable house

Perfect place to stay while visiting our son at Fairfield University, close to everything ... very clean, comfortable beds ... definitely better than staying at his beach house!! Owner was very responsive and easy to work with. Wish I had found this sooner than graduation weekend.

Confortable and cozy, beach house style.

  • 5 of 5

"Osprey House" was exactly as advertised in pictures and description. The owner was very accessible by text message and email before during and after our stay, the property was very clean, well equipped and well maintained. The nearby marina provided a picturesque destination for daily rambles, and the location was perfect for visiting our student at a nearby University.

Better than we could have imagined!

  • 5 of 5

First review written - never been as happy with a stay as this one. My family & I were looking for a 2 month rental while we searched for a home. Dolores was extremely hospitable - making sure the home had everything necessary for a family with a small one (child gates, even stocked with child plates/cups).

The property was outstanding - it's in a great location. Family neighborhood close to parks, the beach, marina, and town/restaurants. We talked to all of the above. The neighbors introduced themselves even though we were only there for a short time, and it felt like a home, even if temporary. We have stayed in corporate housing and condos that don't compare to this property and experience.

Would absolutely stay here again, highly recommended.

Cozy, well equipped, comfortable, quiet.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for two months while searching for a house to buy.

It was clean and warm and comfortable, and well furnished. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, utensils, dishes.

Dolores also provided a lot of unexpected extras.

We were not in our own home, but it was about as close as we could have hoped.

Dolores was always available by phone if we had questions.

We would definitely recommend this place.
