About James Stanfield

My wife and I have always loved to travel. When we found out we could rent homes for a little more than a hotel, we always decided to rent someone's vacation home and never looked back.

James Stanfield purchased this bungalow in 2013

Why James Stanfield chose Connecticut Shore

We fell in love with this property do to its old age and the beautiful property it sits on. It has unique features that they don't make anymore in the newer homes.

What makes this bungalow unique

The bungalow was built in year 1900 and was built to last.

Our stay here was delightful. The house is very well appointed, clean and the hosts were great to work with. The cute little Mystic bungalow was perfect for our two day stay. I heartily recommend it to anyone staying in the Mystic-Stonington area.

Outstanding value for our family

  • 5 of 5

This house is absolutely adorable! It is impeccably maintained, the hardwoods are gorgeous, the owner has thought of virtually EVERY need you could possibly have! We traveled to Mystic with three children (ages 3, 5, and 11) and we simply could not bear the thought of cramming ourselves into a hotel room for 5 nights....and we are SO glad we chose this lovely bungalow in Mystic.

First, the cottage is adorable. I could not wait to sit on the front sunroom to read on the couch and enjoy the sunshine! The floors are absolutely gorgeous, the windows are new and are so easy to use (not always the case in such historic homes). I'm a bit ashamed to admit I was scared of kids falling out of the upstairs windows until I realized you could open them from the top OR the bottom. The kitchen is well stocked and I loved having my choice between the French Press or Automatic Drip Coffee Maker. We ate several meals at home and were never struggling to find the right cooking tools and equipment. The stairs to the upstairs bedroom were so unique and really added to the ambiance, particularly the gorgeous stained glass window. The claw foot tub was a treat and we certainly got a kick out of showering with the sprayer in the tub. The toilet seat even had a hidden toddler seat, just like the one we use at home. The kids particularly loved having a yard to burn some energy in and the outdoor shower amused my husband to no end. The list of delights just goes on and on!

Second, the day after we arrived, I had some concerns about how the master bed worked (it is adjustable) and James came right over to take a look at it. He was incredibly helpful and the bed was perfectly delightful once I got that setting adjusted. James was also immensely helpful when I panicked over the need for laundry facilities. We had been traveling by car for 7 days when we arrived and had 7 more days to go with 3 laundry situation was dire. James bent over backwards to get us access to the laundry, in spite of the fact that we did not meet the minimum stay requirement. Frankly, his willingness to ensure that our stay was smooth and pleasant really MADE our vacation. It could have been so much more complicated had he not been such an agreeable host.

Finally, if we ever make it out to Mystic again, we will DEFINITELY rent this cottage again. As a matter of fact, we're already scheming to come back without kids!

A Long Weekend In Mystic CT

  • 5 of 5

The bungalow we rented was absolutely wonderful. It was in close proximity to the highway and downtown Mystic Seaport but still in a secluded residential area. The interior was immaculate and and tastefully decorated. The rooms were cozy and charming. The added bonus was the enclosed back yard with a fire pit that made the end of the evening with a glass of champagne even more enjoyable.

Great experience - would definitely come again!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 1 week and didn't need a thing. We made breakfast and dinner, and the bungalow had all necessary items to make eggs/toast/spaghetti/garlic bread/pizza/rice - etc. The outdoor grill worked well too. I am 5'8" so the upstairs bedroom was fine for me but if you are 6' you will want to use the downstairs bedroom. The upstairs area was beautifully done - they did an amazing job with the finish. I have stayed in a lot of homes and you can tell that the owners have put lots of thought into setting up the bungalow. Since there is not a dishwasher, we did get a little lazy and buy paper plates. The air conditioners worked fantastic both up and downstairs. The outdoor shower has lots of room and the water did get very hot, which was great. We went early September so the temp outside was fine. The internet worked well, as did the cable. There were lots of plugs so we did not have an issue keeping our gadgets charged. The beds were awesome. There were also TV trays upstairs that we used in various places to set our stuff. A washer and dryer are not available as of yet so make sure to pack enough clothes. We had a question upon arrival and the owners were very responsive, just as they were doing the booking process. The neighborhood is quiet and very convenient to do all the tourist things. We found a nice bakery at the end of the street and the Big Y grocery store is within minutes of the home. The side yard is fenced in and secluded - also nicely done. Would definitely stay again.
