Set in the historic section of Greenport village, the Captain’s House, built in 1820, is an elegant and charming home ready to enjoy, especially for a summer getaway or a cozy holiday retreat. It's a 3 block walk into town and a short bike ride or drive to all the area beaches, wineries and treasure finding.
The Captain’s House is in the perfect location for those who’d like to leave the car at home and wander into town to visit shops, wine bars an restaurants. It's even a 10 minute walk from or the Jitney/train.
There are three bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one with 2 twins or king and the third, a full bed), two full bathrooms, one with a washer/dryer. There are two comfortable living rooms, one with a fireplace and large color TV with Netflix and board games for all ages as well as a formal dining room with farm table for those chilly evenings better spent inside.
For the ultimate chef, the home has a fully stocked kitchen with Cuisinart appliances, a Garland stove, every utensil imaginable as well as all dining-ware. There is no need to bring sheets, towels or beach towels, it’s all here.
There is a very large and beautifully landscaped back yard complete with a 'Secret Garden' hidden in the back overlooking a zen fountain as well as a back deck with grill, outdoor garden shower and a newly added dining patio with expandable table for dining al fresco with friends and family.
With your rental agreement, can buy a short term beach pass for your stay so that you can explore all the beaches of the area easily and comfortably.
Coming from NYC, this rental was so perfect! The house itself has so much character & style, but for me the outside/back garden is magical. There's a little back deck (with great grill!) that pours out onto the garden & there's even a secluded outside dining area by the koi pond surrounded by bamboo. The kicker- it's a 3 minute walk to the center of town! We've come back each year and always look forward to the next visit to see what had changed...there's always a surprise.
We had a wonderful stay at the Captains House this past weekend. Not only is the house beautiful, comfortable and within easy walking distance to town, but the owner was extremely helpful. I couldn't have asked for more or anything better!
I would definitely love to stay again. Perfect!
My partner and I loved this house! This Whaling Captain's Home is quintessential Greenport, oozing with history and charm and mostly comfort. It's a short stroll into town, for the restaurants and bars and marina, but we spent a lot of time just hanging in the house itself and in the quiet backyard. The house is chock full of intriguing art and books and curiosities, but it's also very comfortable, and fully modernized. You walk in and you feel at home. The kitchen alone is soooooooooooooooo quaint and charming, you just want to grab some pots and pans and start cooking, and there is a full dining room where you can serve your friends. I would highly recommend this house for couples who just want some time away (like us), and want the house experience, but there is also plenty of room for friends and family. The owner, Marcia, was responsive and helpful, as well.
We had a great time staying at this house in Greenport. Everything worked perfect and Marcia was very helpful when we wanted to extend our stay with one night. Suitable for 4 friends or a family of 5 persons. Clean and well kept old property with newly renovated bathrooms.
If you're looking for a comfortable, well-appointed home with plenty of period details and a lush, gorgeous garden well then STOP RIGHT HERE. This summer marked our second stay at this adorable home that my 4 year old son affectionally refers to as the "facation house" (translation: vacation house). Standouts include: comfortable beds, great AC (for those steamy summer nights) and, my personal favorite, an outdoor shower! The home is in Greenport village, the most happening town on the North Fork. And downtown Greenport is just a few short blocks away. In addition to great restaurants and adorable shops, the downtown also features a beautiful vintage carousel and classic "village square" type-area, down by the docks. The Metro North station and ferry to Shelter Island are also located in downtown Greenport (and easily walkable to the house) . As a family with young kids we spent our days bouncing between the beaches, the kid-friendly vineyards and farms (berry picking, visiting the animals, etc). I would especially recommend this house to anyone who loves old homes, but appreciates modern amenities. The owner, Marcia, makes herself very available for any questions (even the small stuff), which was much appreciated! We will be back!
My family of 4 had a wonderful time in Greenport at Marcia's home over July 4th weekend. The house is beautifully furnished, so comfortable with lots of room and located within proximity to everything you need. The kitchen is amazing (my daughter and I love to cook) with everything you need to organize a meal. Backyard garden is huge and peaceful with lots of places to relax either in the sun or shade with complete privacy from the neighbors. A beautiful beach is within walking distance, the town is right down the street with lots of great restaurants and shopping and vineyards are also close by. Marcia is a gracious hostess and was quick to respond to all inquiries.
If we decide to vacation on the North Fork (NoFo) again, will definitely stay here!
Friends and I staying in the home for a birthday celebration. The house is extremely charming and inviting, and the backyard is wonderful. Additionally, the location is perfect as it is a quick walk to Greenport and to the Shelter Island Ferry. Highly recommended!
