Disappointing for our first OceanEdge experience

  • 3 of 5

We have been coming to Cape Cod for nearly a decade and usually rent a larger house to accommodate 6 adults. Since it was just the 2 of us this year we decided to give Ocean Edge a try. This particular condo was probably NOT the best choice. The unit is situated on a cul de sac with space for parking around it. Unfortunately, there are 4 units down a path from the condos along the street and these residents/renters must find parking on the cul de sac as well. Since the spaces are not lined, the usual number of cars parked in each of the available spaces is 3, and when a unit has more than one car, parking becomes even more of a challenge. The overflow parking is approx. 2/10+ mile away, which is problematic if it is raining and/or you are carrying gear. The competition for adequate nearby parking is an extreme irritant during an extended stay.

Once inside, after dealing with the difficult to read lockbox, we found the layout to be satisfactory and the updates to be attractive, but there were some problems we discovered as we stayed. The doorbell did not work.

The ice maker did not work. The glass table and chairs in the kitchen were non-functional, although nice for "show." Cupboard space was at a premium. The baker's rack, which did have convenient space for storing wine bottles, was the primary storage spot for foodstuffs. The kitchen was lacking (or not readily visible) in some basics for people who do not dine out nightly while on the Cape, like good, sharp knives, a casserole dish, serving bowls and spoons, placemats or tablecloth for the dining room table (which did have a pad), etc. Additionally, we found the dishwasher had not been emptied by the cleaning staff and the dining room light fixture was in need of a thorough dusting.

The three sofas, while providing ample seating, were dependent on the many pillows to provide any support or comfort.

The table on the patio lacked an umbrella. The grill, although a Weber, was the least expensive Weber model available. Also, there was no charcoal in the condo, which we thought would be provided with a grill advertised as not being gas. The beach furniture left for our use was not of very high quality, so we were happy we had brought our own.

As a final reminder, the owner did inform us that pool privileges are unavailable, but we discovered upon arrival that since they do not "belong" to the Ocean Edge resort, none of the amenities are available during your stay.

Owner's Response: Future renters, after your last payment is received I will send you a welcome letter with all kinds of information about the condo and your vacation. I will invite you to call or text me anytime with your needs and concerns. Or you can email me. The cleaning people and a handyman are onsite and will respond to any of your immediate needs. I've reminded them to check the dishwasher and the dining room light fixture in between each vacationer. I've asked an electrician to fix the doorbell (on a waiting list). The ice cube maker has not been connected to a water supply. However, there are ice cube trays and a container to hold the cubes. New knives will be delivered to the unit this coming weekend. Parking is first come, first serve. Besides the spaces out front, there are several parking areas along Susanna Drive. I'm happy to speak with any guest about their options. The patio area gets full afternoon sun. There is a lovely tree just off to one side and you will have a great view of the women's tee!

Perfect location, very comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

This rental has everything required for the perfect location. Easy access to rail trail, 5 min cycle to the beach, restaurants, mini golf close by. Central, so anywhere on the Cape is within an hour.

The house is spacious and homely and well equipped, air con was especially good, very quiet. Mary Ann was great to deal with, answered any queries very quickly. The patio was especially relaxing, watching the occasional golfer and the birds was great. The pictures on the site do not do this home justice, it is much bigger than expected and set on an impeccable resort. We would love to visit again and would definitely rebook if we return to Cape Cod.

Thanks Mary Ann for a lovely vacation.

Clean, Quiet and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for a long weekend with my husband and 8 month old. This was our first time to Cape Cod and we really enjoyed our stay. The house is very well kept. The owner responded to emails right away during our stay. We will definitely be back!

Very nice place!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four stayed here in Aug for a week. It was a beautiful place completely updated and very comfortable! The master bed was wonderful, we slept great. It was nice having the ductless split units to keep us cool although the weather was so nice we didn't need it most days. Ocean Edge is a beautiful place and it was fun to bike through the property. The CC Rail Trail is right around the corner so riding right from the condo was a huge benefit. It would have to nice to have access to the pools but the beaches and ponds at Nickerson were just as nice. When I had some questions I was able to quickly be in contact with the owner by email. This condo had everything we needed except toilet paper. Also if you plan on cooking you should bring spices/oil etc as all that was available was salt and pepper. I would rent this condo again and also highly recommend it to our friends and relatives.
