Morning Star, the best place to : Sit Down, Relax, Unwind! Welcome to one of Maine's best kept secrets. Here at Morning Star, truly a cool, serene spot on Hobb's Pond, from the minute you leave the main
highway and drive into the tall-treed lush green (resplendent in Autumn) foothills you'll feel the pressures of the daily grind fall away. Just turn off the cell phone, unplug yourself from the everyday work world, come & breakfast on your own VERY private sun filled deck while watching the Loons, Eagles and Ospreys. At lakeside, marvel at the clarity of the water which allows you actually watch that fish take your bait, or just toss those fish a crumb and enjoy how quickly they snatch it up! You'll find yourself so refreshed and invigorated you just may slip into the cool clear water for a good old fashioned 'skinny-dip' your neighbors will rarely if ever see you, but please, don't mistake the Loons wavering calls as laughter at your antics, its just one of Maine critter's wondrous sounds!
At Morning Star, all the best places are moments away yet while you are relaxing at Hobbs Pond & completely removed from the attendant traffic, hustle & bustle, of the Touristy side of Maine, you can have it ALL. Best of both worlds? Yes, you really CAN have it all. You are just mere 15 minutes away from Camden's & the Mid-Coast's exquisite shoppes, fabulous dining, and Festivals, House & Garden Tours, Kitchen Tours, Wine Tastings, Sailing adventures, bargains of all types from Kitsch to Couture it's all there in Camden. Leather, lace, lavender, luscious foods, amazing vistas of the harbor, schooners and sailing adventures, galleries or galleys all for you to choose from and more!
Since you've read this far, I'm going to share a well kept secret with you. Maine is a year round playground, and for many, especially 'Mainers'-- Fall is their favorite time of year! 'Des colores', OH MY!!! The colors are the very best. The roads are all yours! Turn off the air conditioning, roll those windows down, catch the scent of the pines as the road rises into the Camden Hills. While the Ocean may cool a bit, ( an abbreviated wet suit, cures that ) the beaches everywhere are uncrowded now. The Lakes, oh the lakes, the slightly cooler ambient air temperatures make the water feel all the warmer! After your dip, settle by the outdoor fire ring, be a kid again! Pop a few foil wrapped Yukon Golds, into the bed of coals while you cook a dog, grill some fresh Halibut or Salmon , toast a marshmallow on a stick or just snuggle together on a blanket as the sun sets and the fire glows as much as you do!
Like Summer in Maine? You'll LOVE the Fall! Come, be our guest for the most colorful time of the year. By the way, do take a look at Mr. Congleton's exquisite Sedona Arizona property # 3671993, Apple House by the Mountain ... Ever consider Thanksgiving in the great Southwest? Christmas time amid towering red rocks, energy vortexes renowned for healing, artistic communities producing one of a kind works in all medias?? Check it out too, ask for Nancy Riggall you'll be delighted you did.
I'm Dave Congleton, one of many people who upon visiting Maine fell in love. That love of Maine, it's people and its lands and waterways was so intense I knew I'd want to return again & again to share all things Maine with family, friends and loved ones. I'd like to share it now with you ! I'm a former Farm boy from Illinois, turned aeronautic engineer (husband/artist/father/woodworker/investment advisor/business owner/ early retiree/ trumpeter!)
Sort of like a Johnny Carson lite (in terms to his of being a 'lil' boy from Iowa, who aw-shucks made good)
Ask Janet about my WW2 heroic and stoic Dad's gift of a 'College Fund' when I was in seventh grade. It was a pregnant Shropshire Ewe, and my gosh, my amazing Dad (and she) taught me a great deal! I'm finally getting the time and means to enjoy some of the fruits of my years of labor. I do it both by traveling and by sharing two of my favorite spots (Camden Maine /Hobbs Pond & Sedona Arizona) in all the world with folks like you! Come see for yourself life IS a treasure to be enjoyed.
David Congleton purchased this cottage in 1990
Because it really does offer the best of both worlds!
Morning Star is in the most advantageous location, the quiet, less populated, less traveled road with parking literally at the door for several vehicles. It's setting is indeed, more private than many, yet mere minutes from Camden and a brief ride to lovely spots up and down the coast, The fit can walk or bike to a fine restaurant or the very hip, Hope General Store. It is truly ideal as a destination spot to remain in for sweet seclusion or as a special place to regroup and restore before setting out to explore the rest of coastal life and culture.
The decor is not slick and trendy, it is shabby-chic, the true Maine Cottage furnishings, homey but not worn or tattered. This IS a Maine Cottage soundly built by local Maine craftsman, and furnished with solid durable quality goods, not inferior imported goods brought in strictly for the tourist trade, and discarded next season. The price is competitive and the best for your dollar because it's the best Maine experience available. You won't see any reviews until later in the season because it has never been a 'cash-cow!' It has been a family retreat for over 23 years and features the warmth and ambiance of a genuine relaxing getaway spot.
Here at Morning Star, everything you need to while the hours away is right here! The scenery is priceless, (at a very modest cost), the thoughtful amenities are too numerous to list, and the ability to explore both in your own front yard or down or up the coast abound. Come stay at Morning Star. You'll be delighted you did. Folks just like you, have called it their Summer Cottage happily for over 23 years!
Please take note, when you request a reservation you will actually be in contact with my, representative, not a reservation bot. Often she'll be there to greet you & walk your through the property, stay til you've had an opportunity to look everything over & ask any new questions that come to mind.
The calls of the loons, the bass in the lake, a sense of quiet seclusion in spite of the incredibly close proximity to Camden, Rockport and the whole Coast, with all it has to offer just a stone's throw away!
It IS on a road less traveled and yet you are NOT isolated. You can truly have the best of both worlds, quietude in pristine natural surroundings and World Class Restaurants, & Shopping, Schooner trips and Regattas, Whale Watching, Fine Art, and Lobster fresh from the trap. Need I say more?
We have flexible sleeping accommodations, offering a Queen, or a King which can be modified to offer two Twins. The leather sofa in the living room can be made up as a Full if needed. Both light weight blankets and comforters as well as warm & heavy antique quilts are provided.
We loved the location and the cozy inside of this house ! The house was clean and fully equipped. The location is serene, perfect for swimming and fishing. We caught a huge fish and it looks like we will need to bring a fish weight scale with us next time ! We felt extremely lucky to enjoy the gorgeous view. A special thanks for allowing us to bring our small dog !
P.S. The binder with notes you've created was very useful !
Tip- for trash removal we suggest to use this address - 90 union st Rockport, ME (If you prefer to use GPS instead of perfect driving directions from binder).
The listing was as described - except for some problems with wifi (David is addressing this right now). The cottage was great - plenty of room for the 5 of us and the 3 dogs and very clean. Of course, we spent most of our time outside enjoying the beautiful lakefront and the fantastic deck! We couldn't have ordered a better weather week in Maine! The lake is beautiful - clean and clear - and the loons! Very entertaining in the evening. We had a family of 7 hanging around while we were there! Loved them. We did some fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking and just hanging out on the deck. The house is very private - there are neighbors that you can hear but we rarely saw anyone. David is a great homeowner and was very responsive to any questions we had while we were there. Thanks for sharing this little bit of paradise with us.
A great restaurant nearby - Hatchet Mountain Publick House! We enjoyed a great dinner there.
I've been vacationing for a week in Maine for the last 15 years. This place was the best.
All discriptions are spot on. Cottage is nice and comfortable. Views are beautiful. Everything detail has been thought out. The pongo kayaks are a big plus. It's 3 vacations in one. A nice mountain cottage, lake house at the beach. You can swim, boat, hike, fish, take a tour out of the harbor. Mount Battie is a nice hike with a view of the harbor. Cuzzy's has happy hour. Two very unique light house's to see. Food in the area was also affordable. Very nice affordable vacation.
As a couple of semi-retired Aussies looking to escape the heat in Australia, we where fortunate enough to stumble upon Dave's idyllic lakeside house in 2013 and fell in love with it so much that we have came all the way back again in 2015 to experience early Fall. This retreat with its access to Hobbs Pond, is truly a wonderful experience. The cosy wood fire, kitchen with everything necessary, music and movie selection availability, comfy beds as well as the lovely outdoor decking were thoroughly enjoyable and my wife particularly loved kayaking on the pond. There was also excellent internet access to allow me contact with by business back home. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to escape.
My family of 4 really enjoyed this cabin and our vacation. The home was perfect and right on the water. We especially enjoyed the kyaks that were provided and fishing and jumping off the dock with our two young children. Hearing the loons every night and seeing the amazing stars was a treat. The location couldn't have been better!! Close enough to drive to Cadillac Mountain and Fort Knox for day trips and just a short ride into Camden or Rockport. I can't say enough about how perfect this place was and would highly recommend!! The deck was amazing, the locals friendly and the house was clean and beautiful. The owner's booking agent Jan was extremely helpful before and during our stay. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
Morning Star is the ideal spot to enjoy the Best of Both Worlds.
You can have all the privacy or tourist's favorites right at your fingertips! Enjoy the Sweet Seclusion of this very quiet and private spot, the haunting calls of the Loons, the thrill of watching the Osprey or Eagle fish, relax on the huge wrap around deck or immerse yourself in Colorful Camden, a mere 8 miles down the road. Swim, shop, tour or chill, its all up to you!
