Let me introduce myself, I am Alfreda McDonald but I prefer Eva my husband Robby, and I live in California on the coast between Monterey and Santa Cruz. In 2014 we decided to invest in our beautiful vacation home in a extraordinary location. We have enjoyed renting our lovely Hawaiian home for many years, and would be most delighted to have you and your family enjoy our wonderful House of Love by the Sea.
Alfreda McDonald purchased this house in 2004
I fell in love with the home in 2004 the location is unbelievably beautiful and the ocean can be seen from all rooms on the property. Our home is easy to get to from the Hilo International Airport and I can get our supplies and get home in 20 minutes after a tiring flight. The home is our retirement home which we are enjoying renting to travelers like yourself. Aloha.
This is beautiful home besides a place to sleep eat and clean up it has many amenities that can't be beat. Sitting out back in the morning having tea and watching the sun rise, or feeling the cool breeze in the afternoon heat. Oceanfront is very special few homes have this distinction, ocean views, the sound, and taste of salt on your lips. I love to take a night time swim in the salt pool or a morning swim to wake me up:) It's the ideal home for the family vacation staying in a safe, neighborhood setting close to shopping, restaurants and all kinds of recreation.
Yes the house has an amazing view and is spacious as well. Unfortunately we had a huge issue with water pressure and basically just water into the house in general. We arrived on a Monday and the house was closed up and stuffy, the owner called to check on us and mentioned the house had been closed up for 4 weeks. It would have been nice if it was possible to have the house opened up a bit before we arrived since there is no air. Once you get it open and the breeze through the house though, it is pretty good. The water pressure and water in general is all over the place! Water pressure gradually declined and by Thursday morning we could barely wash our hands let alone shower - and this was with no other water running in the house. We didn't have the dishwasher or washing machine going or anything yet we had hardly any water. I contacted the owner and she said she was sorry they were supposed to have changed the filters and would we mind changing them after she told us where the key was to get out a new filter. My husband wasn't thrilled since it was his vacation but we changed the filter. It was better but by Saturday again the pressure had dropped. This time we did not have access to another filter so we just took the filter out. By Sunday the pressure was bad yet again and we took out another filter (there were three that we know of). I contacted the owner and she said yes take out the filter and get your showers in! What? That was a little unnerving. By the time Sunday evening rolled around we once again could not wash our hands with the trickle of water (we have the video!) and the toilets of course now won't flush because of lack of water coming into the house. You can image with a house full of 7 people it isn't fun to worry about being able to flush or wash! It was late and I contacted the owner but I knew she would not get the message until the the next morning. She then sent someone out to replace the filters Monday morning and we had some water to shower up before we headed to the airport home. I know she kept saying it was the filters but honestly it seems like something else as there is one valve that just spins (says my engineer husband). She offered us a free night on our NEXT stay but honestly we don't have plans to go back to the island anytime soon and frankly we would not stay there again. There are many, many other houses for rent in Paradise park with the same view. I just can't recommend this one.
Stayed at this property during when the hurricane was gonna hit and I must say, it was one heck of an experience! Ofcourse the house was well maintained even with the high winds and surf & the owner was extremely helpful regarding the whole situation! The only reason I put 4 stars was because of the water pressure, shower one at a time and don't wash dishes at the same time. Other than that, it was a very lovely and clean home and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family & stay there again myself!!
The views from the master bedroom, kitchen and backside of the house (which faces the water) are amazing !!! The open concept kitchen, dinning and living room is really nice! the kitchen is equipped with all cooking needs. However, some of the appliances didn't work? The whole house could use updating. BUT If you're looking for a no nonsense, house near the water this is it!
Beautiful spacious scenic house.
This was one of the most memorable stays yet in Hawaii, The birds and wildlife along with the waves crashing right outside the back door made me want to move in.
We had 9 of us on this Hawaii trip celebrating my son's 13th birthday. Everyone had their own space. The kids loved swimming in the warm rain in the pool. We loved watching the sun set from the back porch overlooking the ocean. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home! It was amazing! :-)
I cannot say enough about this fantastic home and the owner! We were a party of 6 with an additional 2 kids that live on island that came to stay. There was more than enough room for everyone, and we never felt crowded. The home is HUGE, very clean and what a location! Steps from the ocean and views for miles. Every amenity you could ask for. The owner called me before our trip to welcome us to the home, and wanted to confirm the number of guests, so she was sure enough beds were made upon our arrival - what a gesture! She also called while we were there as she had heard the volcano was active and we might be able to see the "glow" from the yard. Sadly, it clouded up. I highly recommend this property for your next trip. Short drive to the volcano or Hilo. 1.5 - 2 hours to Kona side. And the pool is a welcome home treat each day! Thank you Alfreda for opening up your home to the public!
