Let me introduce myself, I am Alfreda McDonald but I prefer Eva my husband Robby, and I live in California on the coast between Monterey and Santa Cruz. In 2014 we decided to invest in our beautiful vacation home in a extraordinary location. We have enjoyed renting our lovely Hawaiian home for many years, and would be most delighted to have you and your family enjoy our wonderful House of Love by the Sea.
Alfreda McDonald purchased this house in 2004
I fell in love with the home in 2004 the location is unbelievably beautiful and the ocean can be seen from all rooms on the property. Our home is easy to get to from the Hilo International Airport and I can get our supplies and get home in 20 minutes after a tiring flight. The home is our retirement home which we are enjoying renting to travelers like yourself. Aloha.
This is beautiful home besides a place to sleep eat and clean up it has many amenities that can't be beat. Sitting out back in the morning having tea and watching the sun rise, or feeling the cool breeze in the afternoon heat. Ocean front is very special few homes have this distinction, ocean views, the sound, and taste of salt on your lips. I love to take a night time swim in the salt pool or a morning swim to wake me up:) It's the ideal home for the family vacation staying in a safe, neighborhood setting close to shopping, restaurants and all kinds of recreation.
I booked this house for my family as a Christmas gift for my young adult kids. We went during spring break since they are in college. We arrived to a clean home with fantastic views of the ocean. Every night we sat and watched the sunset, what a beautiful sight. We stayed outside listening to the waves crash as we went over everything we did that day. Everything that is listed as the "top 10 things to see" is either in Hilo or over in Kona which is less then 2 hours away.
If you are looking for a nice house with quiet neighbors and a place where everyone can gather at the end of the day, then this is the house you should rent.
We had an amazing time here! 10 people the first week and NEVER did it feel crowded! The ocean views, whales and more whales, was fantastic! We also saw turtles, Dolphins, and flying fish. Even saw the state bird, the nay nay, among many other types of birds. The pool is fabulous and , u can still whale watch from there! We went to local farmers markets and listened to local bands. It was very peaceful and relaxing. We would definitely return for another vacation!
I traveled with 4 friends from college and we stayed at Hale O' Kealoha in early December for 5 nights. WOW! This home is 15 feet from tremendous waves crashing into the lava cliffs that never stop. You can see the ocean from every room in the house including all the bedrooms. It is very soothing to fall asleep listening to the waves. Our first day there a whale spouted 3 times right in front of the house as it swam by. Another morning as we were eating breakfast a nene came into the yard to greet us. It is a very short drive to get to Volcanoes National Park so it is easy to see the lava at night without having a long drive to get back home. We also enjoyed exploring the Puna district and had fun swimming at Ahalanui swimming pool-warm volcanically heated water mixing with ocean waves that crash over the wall. We spent most of our time sitting or walking along the lava bench watching the waves, and also enjoyed the swimming pool. One night the Big Dipper was on the horizon and from the bedroom window it was so bright and big it looked like you could touch it. I would love to stay here again and spend more time in the Puna district.
We enjoyed to stay at this wonderful nice home.We loved this place of ocean front .Thank you very much.
Thank you for the wonderful stay in your home. It is not just an ocean view, it is ocean front with a front row seat to rolling waves and beautiful sunrise.
The home was perfect for our group of 6 people, 3 couples. We had plenty of room in the spacious living room, diningroom and kitchen. We appreciated the extras left in the cupboards and refrigerator. Lots of flexibility in beds chooses, the master bedroom was a spacious.
Overall a good stay. I'd recommend this property. It was nice and comfy. It had most everything for cooking, etc.
The pros are the pool, the view, the ocean breeze, the peace and quiet.
Cons...sliding door locks were mostly broken and had to lock doors with wooden bars, bugs were in abundance as a prior renter killed off all the geckos with poison, the cookware was used and abused, the plumbing had some issues - but was taken care of very promptly (had happened in the past so might even happen again).
We had a nice time and would come back.
