We were supposed to meet at 2:00 with the owner but he never showed up or responded to any of my messages.
We sat at the location we were supposed to meet him for over 3 hours with our two 7 year old girls while we were on the phone with HomeAway customer service to figure out where we could find a place to stay. They also tried to contact the owner to no avail. True to their word... satisfaction guaranteed! The wonderful customer service team at HomeAway found us an amazing hotel in Times Square! We were beyond satisfied!
As we walked into the door of our beautiful hotel, the owner finally responded saying we had gone to the wrong location.... NOT! I lived on that very block for many years and know that neighborhood very well. I am also fully capable of reading the building numbers. Not only that, the doorman of the building looked at the address just to be sure we were in the correct spot. HomeAway also confirmed we were in the correct location listed. We were given NO OTHER check-in instructions.
Here was the owner's text verbatim: "You went to the wrong place dude. Give me a call. I was not around my phone if you are still interested"
Very nice studio that was perfect for my needs. Plenty of space and everything needed to enjoy time in a great neighborhood.
1) Just because your reservation is confirmed and you're charged (even for 30 night say!) doesn't mean you actually will have the place! It can be cancelled any time and your funds can be on hold for some time!
2) When it's cancelled, be ready to get an offer to pay in cash...and negotiations and other nonsense information that follows along with it.
3) The pictures of the place are not 100% accurate.
4) This place needs some fresh paint and new towels.
Great location, although being on street level it could be very noisy in the summer with the window open. The heat was good, the bed/sofa was comfortable, wifi was good, the stove and hot water work, but lights in the kitchen are out, the shower curtain filthy, and the walls definitely need a coat of paint. If you are only sleeping here, it is tolerable, but I wouldn't stay here again.
Abid's Chelsea studio is a great location for a week of gallery-hopping. We parked our car in Jersey City to save money, and took a PATH train 4 stops to 14th St., a short walk to the Apt. - it was nice to have a well-equipped kitchen - Chelsea Market and Southside Market are short walks away. Short walks also, take you to the galleries in Chelsea, the High Line, the Whitney Museum and Eataly.
The apt. was clean. It is tiny and the sofa bed could have been a little more comfortable but we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks, Abid
