Welcome to Thalassa ('Ocean' in Greek). With green firs and superclean air, this stunning beauty sits bold and stong on one of Campobello's highest elevations. The property faces the ocean to the east and beautiful Schooner Cove to the west and north. The pebble beach at Schooner Cove is reached by a short walk or car. There is a large wraparound deck with panoramic view of the water and land across the cove to the north. The house is reached by a long stone driveway which offers privacy from the road.
The modern clean interior features high-end finishing and trim. The main level floor is 18x18 inch hand cleaved slate. The kitchen is spacious with all granite countertops framing the appliances. Washer and dryer are located in the attached ante-room. The oceanview dining room is airy with doors leading to the deck. The great room features floor to ceiling windows and a two-story natural stone fireplace. Each of the three bedrooms has their own closets and en-suite tile bathroom and shower.
As a property that is part of the Campobello Island Club, Thalassa is centrally located on the island, only minutes from the Quoddy Head Light as well as the Roosevelt home and park. With its spectacular location ... along with our glorious bald eagles and majestic whales, Thalassa is truly a one of a kind home and retreat.
We are pleased to offer Thalassa as a non-smoking and pet-free property.
Although I have stayed on Campobello many times, the week spent in this lovely home was by far the best vacation on the island ever! I knew that we had "a very nice view" from the description, but the sweeping vistas from the house were utterly breath-taking. Our family loves to cook, so the spacious and well-equipped kitchen was tremendously appreciated. Even when we had a foggy day with intermittent rain, our group, which included 3 teenage girls, was blissfully content spread out in the beautiful living room playing cards, putting together puzzles, reading, and looking out the windows as blankets of fog rolled over us. The Wetzels were very informative as to what they recommended that we bring with us to make our stay more comfortable. We will definitely stay here again!
The description of this home on the website undersold the beauty of the home and the ocean view! The porch that is 180 degrees of ocean view allowed us to move our chairs to watch sunrise as well as sunset! The peacefulness of the setting lent itself to hours of watching for whales, dolphin, seals and eagles (yes, we saw them all!), reading, puzzling, cooking, bike-riding - not to mention the historical lessons visiting the FDR summer home! To top it off - the island music/arts fest (Fogfest) was in full swing the week we were there. Fred and Patty were wonderfully accommodating and made our stay very easy. We would do it again in a heartbeat!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. The views from every room are spectacular and no picture can do it justice. Watching the 30 ft. tides twice a day, combined with glorious sunrises and sunsets, the blanket of stars at night, all the peaceful, private, and quiet, make this a great place to relax and unwind. Beautifully furnished, with clean, comfortable bed. The owner wisely advised us to stop at Hannaford in Machias before getting on Campobella. The grocery stores and restaurants on the Island are not great but the well stocked kitchen and great barbecue made it easy to cook at home. Short ride to Lubec for more restaurant variety. This visit was the highlight of our summer and we would recommend it for anyone looking for a great place to enjoy nature and a good book and not the usual busy and noisy tourist destination.
