Downeast and Acadia Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description

3-Bedroom Log Home on Historic Taunton Bay. Pets Should Feel Right at Home.

It's a 12-year old 3-bedroom log house, nestled among the evergreens, oaks, and Harbor Seals. Situated right on Taunton Bay. Nearly all the comforts of home here -- fridge, LP gas oven, DW, microwave, piano, bikes, DVD/CD, fireplace, linens, W/D, and more stuff...not the least of which will be peace and quiet. About 45 min. from BHB/Acadia, 30 min. from Schoodic, and 3 hrs. from Baxter St. Park (and all the Moose). Hancock has four wonderful restaurants, incredible as that sounds. Ellsworth, the closest "town", has everything you'll need, and it's a not-too-close 8 miles away. What else can I tell you? Look at the photos and you'll see what awaits you. By the way, there's another structure on the property, a small cabin, and I'll be living there while you're here. But don't worry - you won't even know I exist. I'm a nature photographer by trade and that means I can be nearly invisible. You'll have total privacy. Also, pets are encouraged, not just permitted. Okay. Look forward to hearing from you. Peace, Gerry.

PS - Stay here and get 15% off at The Bangkok Restaurant and 20% off anything at Monteux Gallery!!

About Gerard "Gerry" Monteux

Hi. My name's Gerry Monteux. I live here with my 13-year old mostly-Corgi, Bruce. This is where I grew up and I can't say enough good things about it, but the first thing I'll say is that it's the reason I do what I do now for a living. I'm a nature photographer and being here, being immersed in nature 24/7, convinced me to do what I do. This place tends to get in your blood and remain there. I need to let you know that if you stay here, I'll be living in the little cabin on the property. But don't freak out. You'll have tons of privacy, and might not even know I'm there. And should anything go wrong, I'm right there to take care of it. Also, to entice you further, anyone who stays at my home receives the following offers: 15% off every meal at The Bangkok Restaurant (Thai food) in Ellsworth and 20% off any purchase at Monteux Gallery (fine art nature photography...mostly) also in Ellsworth. That is all. Come here.

Spectacular location on a peaceful lake!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful stay Downeast in Hancock. The location was perfect near Acadia, Petit Manan and Schoodic peninsula.

The home was very comfortable and had everything we needed and more. The view was spectacular. We enjoyed hiking, kayaking, concert at the Monteux , and of course eating lots of Lobstah!!

comfortable, relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous home, Gerry was very welcoming and provided great ideas of things to do in the area. Only about 30 minutes and Bar Harbor and Acadia too! Definitely secluded and private, though not far at all from groceries, restaurants, etc. We even saw a seal in the bay! Awesome experience.

Excellent Log Home

  • 5 of 5

Our visit to Bar Harbor exceeded our expectations for an awesome and incredible adventure weekend largely because of the beauty and comfort of this exquisite log home. It is on the water with two canoes and two kayaks. There are three bicycles. A great restaurant is .25 miles away. For those who like log houses, this is a dream house that is very comfortable and picturesque. I highly recommend staying here.

Incredible family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the property for a week and wished we could have stayed longer! The house is lovely and comfortable, placed in a beautiful location right above the water's edge. We are a party of 5 (including 3 boys of 3, 6 and 12) and we all had an awesome time. The cabin is very well equipped and even has kayaks and canoes which we used almost every day exploring the bay, making picnics and fishing.

The property is 30 minutes away from Bar Harbour. The drive there is beautiful.

There is a Wal Mart 10 minutes away from the property.

Gerry the owner is really helpful and made us feel at home.

We highly recommend this place and hope we can come back again soon!

TRULY a home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Much as I would like to keep this place a secret just for myself and those close to me, I know that wouldn't be fair. The house is totally comfortable and charming—just as described. Beautiful and interesting photographs and art work to look at, soft beds to sink into, and great views out every window. The deck looks out on the water and has plenty of wonderful wicker furniture to lure you out. There is a delightful rock-covered beach on which to stroll. Two kayaks were available as well. Honestly, there's no need to leave the place, but there are plenty of nearby attractions such as Schoodic Peninsula and Acadia National Park if you want more out door adventures. The owner was most solicitous, and his gallery in Ellsworth is well worth a visit. I would highly recommend this property to anyone!
