|Property type||chateau / country house|
|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
It's a 14-year old 3-bedroom log house, nestled among the evergreens, oaks, Harbor Seals, and Bald Eagles. Situated right on Taunton Bay. Nearly all the comforts of home here -- fridge, LP gas oven, microwave, piano, kayak, canoe, DVD/CD, fireplace, linens, W/D, and more stuff...not the least of which will be peace and quiet. About 45 min. from BHB/Acadia, 30 min. from Schoodic, and 3 hrs. from Baxter St. Park (and all the Moose). Hancock has three wonderful restaurants, incredible as that sounds. Ellsworth, the closest "town", has everything you'll need, and it's a not-too-close 8 miles away. What else can I tell you? Look at the photos and you'll see what awaits you. You'll have near total privacy, although you should be aware that I work in the cabin on the property from time to time. Also, pets are encouraged, not just permitted. Note: if you rent during the winter/early spring months, you WILL need a 4WD vehicle. Okay. Look forward to hearing from you. Peace, Gerry.
PS - Trump supporters should look for lodging elsewhere. I'm serious about this.
PPS - Stay here and get 20% off at The Bangkok Restaurant and 20% off anything at Monteux Gallery!!
Hi. My name's Gerry Monteux. I live here with my 13-year old mostly-Corgi, Bruce. This is where I grew up and I can't say enough good things about it, but the first thing I'll say is that it's the reason I do what I do now for a living. I'm a nature photographer and being here, being immersed in nature 24/7, convinced me to do what I do. This place tends to get in your blood and remain there. I need to let you know that if you stay here, I'll be living in the little cabin on the property. But don't freak out. You'll have tons of privacy, and might not even know I'm there. And should anything go wrong, I'm right there to take care of it. Also, to entice you further, anyone who stays at my home receives the following offers: 15% off every meal at The Bangkok Restaurant (Thai food) in Ellsworth and 20% off any purchase at Monteux Gallery (fine art nature photography...mostly) also in Ellsworth. That is all. Come here.
Gerard "Gerry" Monteux purchased this chateau / country house in 2005
I built this house on the property where I grew up. It's my cathedral.
Away from 'most of it', peace and quiet, nature in abundance, Bar Harbor, Schoodic, Acadia all nearby, Plenty of restaurants and bars within reasonable driving distance, pets encouraged to come!
We loved our stay at Adeline's Way. Gerry was a pleasure to work with. His accomandating welcome made our stay that much better. The house itself is very well appointed. You can tell that he has spent a lot of time maintaining it and making it comfortable for guests. The house itself has a lot of personal touches which overall tell a story. We thoroughly enjoyed the wood-burning fireplace. It was nice to sit on the couch in the evening's watching a movie drinking a glass of wine looking out over the bay and listening to the crackling of a fireplace.
We were able to take the kayak out on the water and enjoyed the serenity. We will be back. This property is secluded enough to provide a sense of solitude but not far from shopping and Bar Harbor. While staying here I suggest that you check out Bangkok restaurant for dinner and the art gallery and Café located at 192 Main St. in Ellsworth.
Enjoy this small slice of tranquility.
Did you ever meet someone and it felt like you have known them all your life? Then you have met Gerry. We would highly recommend you stay here. He is gracious, hospitable, and very knowledgeable. You know this man truly cares about the land that he lives on and the creatures he shares it with. Make sure you visit his studio and enjoy his beautiful photography. His cabin is right in the heart of it all yet feels like you are on a remote island. It is a cabin and there are no frills but the access to the bay is priceless. You can sit by the fire and relax and enjoy the view, or head out on a kayaking adventure to see the local wildlife and fisherman pulling in their lobster cages. Everything you need is nearby, including Acadia National Park. Be prepared, there is no TV cable service here, however, there is internet service. We didn't have a problem with this and enjoyed unplugging and getting away from the TV. Thank you Gerry for sharing the cabin and always being available to answer our questions. We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to see you in the future.
Wonderful setting! House is perfect and very roomy. It was great to canoe along the coast. The host was very organized and helpful.
This is a truly breathtaking location within a short drive from Acadia National Park. The cabin is very warm and inviting and Gerry was a wonderful host with super useful tips about the area and the park. Everything was exactly as expressed in the description except the views were even more spectacular. I'd highly recommend renting this cabin for a getaway from it all, but with all the comforts of home.
This is a beautiful home that we had the pleasure to stay at for three nights. Gerry was a pleasure to deal with - super prompt and friendly with all of our interactions. The property is immaculate with gorgeous views. Our kids loved to explore the private rocky beach and we had two awesome days at Acadia and exploring the Schoodic Peninsula. We saw tons of cool wildlife (check out Gerry's gallery in Ellsworth also) during our stay. Could not recommend more highly....
Gerry's waterfront cabin is beautiful. There's a very peaceful wrap around porch perfect for early morning coffee and books, as well as sunset happy hours. The kayaks are a great way to start your day, taking in Maine's beauty. Gerry was super helpful and great at giving unique hiking suggestions off the beaten path. He also had a basket of toys for our dog. We left today feeling very relaxed.
