Blake Blackwelder/Diane Blackwelder purchased this house in 2012
This property is located on Treasure Island next to San Luis Pass. It is just the best subdivision on the coast. It is quiet and a great get-away spot for families. We have some of the best quality Gulf water in the entire region due to offshore waters coming into the Pass with the tides. We also have City of Galveston drinking water. This is the best view anywhere because we have lights on the west end of Galveston Island shining across the waters of the Pass - and in the morning we sip coffee looking at the sunrise out front. Stars and moon can be spectacular over the vast expanse of the Gulf. Pelicans fly along in formation just out front and occasionally porpoises play out front.
This is living on the beach at its best. The house is uniquely designed with flow-through ambiance from room to room. The view of the water from the front decks is unsurpassed anywhere. The kitchen has everything with top of the line appliances and invection cooktop. Travertine and quartzite floors throughout the house. Quality mattresses and furniture.
What a great house! It was everything we could have asked for and more. Spending a holiday like Thanksgiving in a vacation rental can be a challenge, but this wonderful house had everything we needed for the big family meal.
The bedrooms were great and having three king-size beds was a great luxury and made all of us very comfortable. My wife and I were especially lucky to get the master bedroom upstairs with the private deck overlooking the gulf!
We will be back!
This was, by far, my most favorite beach house we have ever stayed at! The house is absolutely gorgeous, comfortable, and well appointed. The kitchen is a chef's dream. We all really appreciated that each and every bedroom had it's own private bathroom, and that all the beds were super cozy. We all loved the spacious decks; the view could not be beat!
The beach in front of the house was great for wading and shell hunting. The water was so much clearer than it is in Galveston. I loved that we were able to let the pups off of leash to play in the water as the beach is blocked on each side by a wall of large rocks. The sand bar was sooo very neat. We were able to walk the dogs out and mosey around searching for sand dollars. For us it was just the most perfect beach; I really can't imagine anything better.
Although the walk over has not been fixed yet, there is a trail right next to it to get on the beach and a trail leading from the house to the other side of the beach. Easy peasy to get to. But watch out for mosquitos and stickers!
The owners, Diane and Blake, were great to work with. Everything was simple and seamless.
The only thing that would have made this vacation any better would have been if it were longer. Next time! Until then we will be dreaming of our Treasure Island paradise.
After searching high and low for a local place that would accommodate our large family, we settled on this home located near San Luis Pass. This is the first first time renting from this particular website so we were a little concerned because of all the extra fees. The place made up for all of that! The home is beautiful, very well situated near the water. Views are amazing and we had well more than enough room for our family of 9. Everything you need in a home is provided for you. If you stay longer than a couple of days, bring extra paper towels, toilet paper, etc.
I must admit, we were shocked by the list of check out items that we had to take care of before we left. There is a cleaning fee on top of the list of items (strip beds, wash dishes, empty dishwasher, take trash out to the dump). But upon seeing how nice the place is, and all the care it took to keep it that way, we didn't mind! The one thing we wish we could do is come earlier than 4 and leave later than 10! We paid almost $1700 for less than 2 days :( Yes it was labor day weekend, but if we could have had more time on the day we came, it would have made our weekend that much better.
With that being said, we would not hesitate to come back! We gave recommendation to 2 other families that saw our pictures. We really felt like we were miles and miles away from home, instead of an hour!
This is the 3rd time for us to stay at this property(we have also stayed at the Blackwelder's other vacation rental as well) and as usual, we were totally satisfied with our stay. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get-nothing is staged in the pictures as we have unfortunately discovered with other vacation rentals. In addition to the beautiful home, we appreciate having the easily accessible beach directly in front of us. We love searching for the abundant seashells that the gulf supplies and also enjoy boogie boarding in the waves. In the 4 years that we have been coming to this beach, we have never felt unsafe or detected any dangerous currents. I would definitely refrain from swimming under the bridge but that's quite a distance away from the house.
My family and I recently stayed a week at this gorgeous beach house. The house itself is stunning and has beautiful views. We were even able to watch some dolphins from the porch one day. The beds in the house are very comfortable and the house was big enough to comfortably fit my extended family (11 people total). My kids loved having the bunk bed room to share with their cousins.
I was mislead, however, when I initially looked at the pictures. I was expecting to be able to swim and play on the beech directly in front of the house. However, there are signs near the wooden bridge (seen in the pictures) that report "No swimming. 5 people killed in 2013." When discussing with the locals, we were informed that there has actually been even more people than that killed in that area. They reported that about once a month a child or adult gets swept under the current of the San Luis Pass and drowns. This would have been good to know ahead of time and made me nervous with my children. However, there were nice shells found on the beach due to not having many people around to swim. There was also a nice area of beach to swim and play about a block and a half south that is not in the curve of the San Luis Pass that was within walking distance and a nice private beach to swim and play with our family.
The bridge that goes over the San Luis Pass connecting the area where the beach house is located to the rest of Galveston is also a toll bridge and you have to pay $2 anytime you cross. There are no close grocery stores as well, so it is best to stock up while you are in Galveston.
We overall had a great experience and it was a beautiful home, I just wish I would have known some of the above before choosing this house.
The house and location is perfect. We had 7 adults and two children and couldn't have had a better time. Owner was unbelievably helpful throughout.
The house is right on the water and the deck is covered. Beach access is easy and right down a sandy walkway. Keep in mind the beach is not "white sand" and moves up and back with the tide. It is perfect for collecting sea shells. There are 10 beach chairs that are easy to bring down and sit right on the water. It will feel like you have your own little private beach (at least it did the entire week we were there).
If your vacations are better "just hanging" - Highly recommend.
San Luis Pass is the best fishing spot on the coast. Endless beaches to walk for 15 miles to surfside. Great shelling and birding.
