People often say 'This is my favorite house in Cambria!'
Crashing waves, warm sunny patios overlooking the ocean and a private courtyard with outdoor fireplace make this a 'dream house' come true!
Casa Suena was built in 2000, inspired by the old Julia Morgan-designed homes in San Simeon, which were built in the 1920s for a few key Hearst Castle employees .
Casa Suena is 2400 sq ft, covering three lots in a traditional Spanish style, built around an interior courtyard which includes an outdoor fireplace and fountain. The master suite is at one end of the house, with a large walk-in closet. Two more bedrooms are at the other end, sharing the second bathroom. A powder room is adjacent to the kitchen. There are three showers; an extra large one in the master bathroom, a shower/tub in the second bathroom, and a hot water shower outside, perfect for washing off sand and salt water after a beach adventure.
One bedroom is equipped with a large screen TV with Netflix, cable, and other online offerings. (wifi). Toys include legos, blocks, books and games, a dollhouse, and stuffed animals...plenty for kids of all ages.
The kitchen is large with lots of dishes and utensils and good quality stainless steel pots and pans. It opens to the courtyard for BBQs and evening wine and s-mores while gathered around the outdoor fireplace. (firewood included)
The living room has a wood fireplace as well, and opens up to a dining room which has a better view than any restaurant in Cambria. (It is a joy to cook in the kitchen at Casa Suena with fresh local food from Cambria's fabulous Farmer's Market!)
The courtyard is completely enclosed, with a passage into the small fenced side yard, which makes it ideal for a well behaved dog.
The neighborhood is friendly and quiet; surrounded by open space and within walking distance of the Fiscalini Ranch preserve which has hiking and biking trails for all levels of fitness. Lots of wildlife, too: deer, pelicans, sea otters (and surfers) in the cove, dolphins and whales (and kayaks) spotted a little further out. Just a few steps lead you to the tide pools, where you can explore the small sea life for hours.
Casa Suena is a perfect retreat for you to settle into, or as a wonderful place to come home to after a day of exploring the Central Coast's beaches, wineries, and culture.
We live in San Luis Obispo, and love Cambria and Casa Suena. Our other love is Italy, and we travel there as much as possible, sometimes for work, sometimes just for fun! Our children are mostly grown and they enjoyed an adventurous childhood in Casa Suena.
Carol purchased this house in 2000
We never take for granted the natural beauty of this particular spot on the California coast, with the coastal pine trees and rugged coastline Cambria is such an eclectic community with wonderful restaurants and hidden gems- which we will gladly share with you!
Casa Suena has warmth and personality. It was lovingly built to reflect the homes of the 1920s- in quality and materials: plaster, ceramic tiles, hardwood floors and copper gutters. The vintage decor is colorful and a bit whimsical.
The oceanfront patios provide many places to relax and enjoy the experience of living right on the bluff...stunning views, crashing waves, salt spray. This particular oceanfront location is sheltered from the wind, making it so pleasant to sit outside and read, watch the surfers, enjoy morning coffee, a leisurely lunch or a glass of wine... lots of oceanfront properties in Cambria are unfortunately windy.
The neighborhood is friendly and people love to go for walks! If you want to mingle with others, just head out the gate from the courtyard and join the morning parade of friendly people getting some exercise. If you are looking for privacy, however, you can relax in the courtyard and the oceanfront back yard.
Casa Suena has it all – this is our favorite get away. Of course there is the ocean right out the back door, with wonderful views from inside the house. The house sits on a bluff with tide pools below, and we love watching the waves break over the rocks with the tides. The house itself is so attractive and comfortable, and is furnished with everything we need to feel like home.
It’s hard deciding where we want to relax – outside sitting in the beautiful front courtyard, inside looking at the whales, dolphins and boats going by, or sitting at the back patio table watching the waves and wildlife while sipping wine at sunset. I should mention how comfortable it is spending time on the back patio. The house sits above a cove and is oriented to provide a natural shelter from ocean winds.
We continue opting to bring our dinner home from our favorite Cambria restaurants so we can enjoy the ocean view from the dining room table. There is a list of very good restaurants in Cambria and close by, along with lots of helpful notes and suggestions, that Carol has provided in the house. And, of course, there’s the Farmer’s Market to visit (especially the “Soup Lady”). Thankfully we had plenty of exercise from our Fiscalini Ranch bluff walks to work off our dinners!
We come here every year and love it.
While the view is impressive, the house has an incredible great feel that is hard to describe. Obvious, the owners put a great deal of time with the decor details. Carol was very helpful in some special needs that my 92 year old mom had. Also, close to great trails and fast internet!
If you are looking for an oceanfront vacation home, this is THE best spot in Cambria! The home's position on a protected cove provides a great place to watch whales, dolphins and otters of which we saw many everyday! This is a magical spot to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine at sunset. The home is beautiful--a California Mediterranean with courtyard including lovely fountain and fireplace with climbing bouganvilla. We found the furnishings and artwork to provide an upscale yet most comfortable atmosphere, The home is located close to a protected oceanfront open space perfect for a long .walk. Carol, the owner is most gracious and will respond to any needs you may have. She can provide good recommendations for restaurants and other points of interest. I would highly recommend this home to friends looking for a restful retreat. I look forward to returning. Thank you, Carol!
This house is an amazing place to spend your precious time. We had very high expectations when we arrived, based on the many web site photos that show the inside and outside of Casa Suena. We certainly weren’t disappointed. This is a beautifully furnished home in a fabulous location with everything you need to be comfortable and enjoy yourself.
When you enter the house by way of a beautiful front courtyard, the first thing you see is the ocean through the walls off windows all across the back. The master bedroom also overlooks the ocean and we loved listening to the waves at night. Cambria has some wonderful restaurants, local artist shops and galleries, and of course the wineries; however, we always hurried home to enjoy the best views from our own backyard.
We saw so much wildlife – whales, sea otters, pelicans, dolphins to name a few - as we enjoyed a glass of wine outside. And there is a small park with easy steps down to the tide pools just one house away, plus the beautiful Fiscalini Ranch and bluff walks at the other end of the street. Everyone is so friendly and so happy to be in Cambria.
The owners, Carol and Marty, are such gracious hosts and certainly provided us with a wonderful home away from home during our stay in September. We are coming back!
This oceanfront retreat is one of the most beautiful and livable homes we’ve ever been in! Located on a bluff above the ocean, an amazing variety of wildlife is visible from its many tall windows and from its lovely backyard. We have seen sea otters, seals, dolphin, gulls, cormorants, and herons, and long lines of pelicans fly daily past the master bedroom windows! These same windows hold a view of stars at night. Cambria is a nature lover’s paradise, and the immediate neighborhood is flat—great for walking, jogging, and biking. One of only a few rentals that allow pets, we were so grateful to be able to bring our cat along and to have an enclosed sideyard!
The house has a flower-scented front courtyard offering privacy and a lovely outdoor living space. The home’s interior is light, happy, and deeply restful. Its kitchen is stocked with wonderful cookware, dishware, appliances, and even a Champion juicer! Owners Carol and Marty love Italy, and the design of the house as well as kitchen supplies reflect their affection. We couldn’t have been happier preparing meals, despite the temptation of our favorite restaurants: Indigo Moon, Madeline’s, and Robin’s in Cambria, Sebastian’s in San Simeon, and the fabulous Harmony Café, in Harmony. Roost in Templeton, 25 minutes drive over Hwy. 46, is terrific, too. This drive offers spectacular vistas, and Templeton also has a Trader Joe’s and a small market called Nature’s Touch for local organic produce and naturally-raised meats.
Casa Suena feels like a beloved home and not a rental. The bedrooms are comfortable and charming, with a great new sofa bed in the TV room. From the outset Carol made it clear that our complete enjoyment was her goal. She remained easily available to us, and we enjoyed and appreciated her as a person and a homeowner. She and Marty had great recommendations, including walking in the pine woods of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. The Preserve is a short distance down the street, with fabulous trails along the ocean bluffs and through the forest. We also love the walk along Moonstone Beach and through Leffingwell Park. Cambria has interesting shops, like Moonstones, Wildwood, the Garden Shed Shops, A Matter of Taste, and Cambria Hardware, seeming to have one of everything! For delicious ice cream there is The Village Bean, and for coffee, Cambria Coffee.
Staying in Casa Suena has been a dream come true. It is a stunning and special place, owned by some very special people.
Cambria is nestled in a pine forest at the south end of the Big Sur Coast. Our area offers so much! The ocean, the forest, Hearst Castle...a short drive over the hills takes you into the acclaimed Paso Robles wine country, small western flavored towns and more excellent restaurants. Down the coast you will find more small beach communities- each with a distinct personality. About 30 minutes away is San Luis Obispo, home to a beautiful mission surrounded by a vibrant city, and California Polytecnic State University.
