If you are looking to get away from it all and want to go out and let yourself go then this cottage is for you! This newly remodeled 2 bedroom 1 bath island home is located on back end of a subdivision for privacy. This air conditioned home has a large wood deck with a gas grill and large yard to do such activities as corn hole and horseshoes (which are there waiting for you to enjoy). It also has a fire pit to gather around as you sit under the stars. Private beach rights at the end of the street is just a short 2 minute walk away. This home has 2 queen size beds and a couch which pulls out into a queen size bed. Flat screen TV's are in both the living room and master bedroom. The kitchen is stocked with items for you to be able to relax and cook. It has pots, pans, utensils, stove, oven, microwave, grill, grilling utensils, ample cupboard space, toaster, and coffee maker. If you decide you would like to go out for evenings, then a short golf cart ride to downtown is where you will find good food and spirits. If a nice steak and bottle of wine is your choice, The Island House is a great pick. If it's a pizza and beer night, go no further than Caddyshack. Don't forget though that The Pump has the best Lake Erie perch platter you will ever have and are famous for their Brandy Alexanders. Kelleys Island is just a Jet Express Ferry ride (25 minutes) from downtown Sandusky. There you can enjoy some of what Sandusky has to offer such as fine dining at JBistro's and martini bars such as Hearth and Volstead. Don't forget about Dalys Pub though!! There you can get both great food and spirits at reasonable prices. All of these places are located within walking distance when you get off the ferry. If roller coasters are what you crave, Cedar Point the 'world's best amusement park' is just a short 10 minute drive from downtown Sandusky. There is plenty of transportation from the downtown area to get to Cedar Point. So come and enjoy all that the island has to offer and make Kelleys Island a piece of your paradise.
My wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay here. We knew that we would be spending most of our time exploring, so we were just looking for a nice , clean place to sleep at a convenient location. This property has definitely delivered. Looking at the house from outside, we were surprised by how tiny it looked, but once we stepped in - it was really cozy, clean and updated. The only part of the listing that I completely missed was the part about private beach rights. I wish I read the description more carefully. Public beach on this island is sub-par. Luckily, one of the locals suggested that we visit the Sheele Preserve. It's a short trail with a pristine beach at the end of it. Swim there at your own risk as it is prohibited there. There are other nice trails on this island, but this particular one was our favorite. I also recommend hiking the East Quarry Trail. The lake there is amazing and has plenty of fish. As far a food is concerned, Kelly's Island Wine Company was our favorite, as everything else is pretty much limited to deep fried/bar food.
I would not recommend going to KI, if you are looking for nightlife. Granted that we were here during the week - there were limited options and none looked that great. We came here for some peace and quiet and that is exactly what we got. If you are looking to party, I would suggest hopping on a ferry and heading over to Put-in-Bay. It is a lot more developed and has a lot more to offer as far as bars, restaurants and party scene.
Last, but not least - the property owner was great and very responsive. We are not very needy, but he was quick to answer the phone and reply to our text messages. He is knowledgeable about the island and will give you pointers. When we decide to come back to Kelley's Island, this would be the first property I would consider booking and I will recommend it to my friends.
Our family enjoyed the spacious and very clean cottage with updated amenities. We especially liked the yard where the children and dog played under the shade trees. We had room to use a hammock, park a boat, store kayaks and bikes, enjoy a large fire ring, and still have privacy off a quiet lane. The owner was very accommodating to meet our needs. The kids have already recommended the cottage to their friends.
Very nice rental. Nothing fancy but clean, comfortable and quiet. Large yard for any activity. Lots of elbow room. Located near the end of the street. All amenities you may need are in the house. Priced right. I'll return.
