Waterfront Cabin - Huge Dock, Screened Porch

Overview

About the property

Fall in Love with Our Humble Little Cabin on Weiss Lake

Two bedroom, two bath cabin with screened-in porch, grilling/dining deck, and immense dock.

The best 'room in the house' is the screened-in back porch that overlooks the lake. There are three rockers and a sofa-sized glider on this porch.

You will love the extra large dock! It has two chaise lounges, a table, and an umbrella stand. The stand for the umbrella is attached to the dock. Additional camp chairs and plastic chairs are available in the storage area.

There is a hammock stand by the lake. Hammock and cushions for the chase lounges are in the storage area.

The living room has a fireplace and a view of the lake.

Both bedrooms have queen sized beds. Clean sheets will be on the beds when you arrive.

There is also a queen size air mattress with a plug in powered pump in the front bedroom closet, and sheets for it are in the front bedroom dresser or back bedroom dresser. Extra pillows are in the top of the closets.

The back bedroom has a small ensuite bath with shower only. The main bath has a tub/shower combo. The main bathroom is older and could use a cosmetic renovation, but everything is kept in good working order.

Washcloths, hand towels, bath towels, and toilet paper will be available in each bathroom. Extra towels and swim towels are in the linen closet in the front bathroom.

Along the back wall of the living room is a small kitchen area with refrigerator, stove, toaster, and coffee maker. Blender is in the cupboard above the stove. Microwave is available on the dining table.

We have kitchen basics available for your use - plates and bowls, cups and glasses, mixing bowls, silverware, knives, manual can opener, corkscrew, grater, small wisk, spatula, etc. Pots and pans are stored in the drawer under the stove. There is very limited storage and therefore a limited quantity of additional kitchen items are available. If you find something is lacking, please let us know the desired item so we can provide it for future guests.

Napkins and paper towels provided. There is no dishwasher. Dish soap and a dish towel and drainer will be provided.

We now have wifi from Weiss Lake Internet (10 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up)!

There is NO TV! For sports fans we recommend watching the game at The Gridiron in Centre, at Linde Marie's in Cave Spring at the bar, or streaming to your personal laptop computer (you would need to bring this) across our wifi connection.

We do get good coverage on Verizon and Sprint (roaming), but AT&T is text only (no voice calls). T-Mobile works on some devices but not on others. Books and games are available for rainy days.

There is a small deck past the porch for outdoor dining and grilling. Tongs and a spatula for the gas grill are available for your use. Propane for the grill is provided. If you run out during your stay, refills are available in town. If you notice the gas is low, please let us know so we can swap it out before the next guest arrives.

We do not have a washer/dryer, but there is a laundromat in Centre.

We do have dogs. We will vacuum immediately before your arrival; however, there is a chance that some poofs of dog fur will appear during your visit. If you are highly allergic this could be an issue, so we wanted to give everyone a heads up.

We do have central heating and air plus space heaters and fans and two window unit A/Cs. However, the cabin has a metal roof attached to a wooden roof with the ceiling attached directly to that. There is no attic and little, if any, insulation. When the temperature is in the 90s, the cabin will get warm inside. We have done everything we can think of to keep the temperature moderate, but we can not guarantee the cabin will maintain your desired temperature during the heat of summer. If you are sensitive to warmth, we would love to have you visit in spring or fall.

There are cleats to tie up your boat on the dock.

Launch your boat on the other side of the lake. Driving distance from the house to the boat ramp is less than two miles, and by boat to the dock is about eight tenths of a mile. You can see the boat ramp from the dock.

Feel free to borrow our two kayaks to paddle around the immediate area. There's also a paddleboard for guest use. Lifejackets for moderate sized adults are available.

Fishing poles available (you will need an Alabama fishing license).

There is an archery target, bow and arrows, and a handheld crossbow and bolts.

There are several floats available for use while swimming in the lake.

If you like, hike at nearby DeSoto State Park, Little River Canyon, or on the Gadsden-area riverside trails. If you prefer paved paths, walk, jog, or ride your bike on the nearby Chief Ladiga trail (known in Georgia as the Silver Comet trail).

If you like bargain shopping, we are about an hour and a half away from Unclaimed Baggage. That place is a shopping experience!

The best restaurants in the area in our opinion are Linde Marie’s Steakhouse on the Square in Cave Spring, GA (about half an hour away) or burgers at The Gridiron right in Centre.

Grocery stores and the Wal-Mart Supercenter are in Centre, about a twenty minute drive away.

If you want a quick snack the store at John's Crossroads is the closest place for food and beverages (no alcohol sales in the county, so you will need to travel to Centre for that). In the morning they do biscuits and lunchtime they have fried chicken and etc.

It is usually quiet, but we are close to our neighbors so you may hear the family next door. If they disrupt you, turning on air conditioning, fans, and/or the radio or asking them to be quiet should take care of the issue.

Great spot for time with family or friends.

Check in time is 4:00 PM and check out time is noon, although message me if you would like late checkout or early arrival. We can usually accommodate that.

Things we can't control - weather, power outage (uncommon except in storms), whether or not the fish are biting, and level of water in lake. Google "Weiss Lake lake level" to check. Full pool is 564 feet, and at full pool the water is about 6 feet deep off our dock. We have never seen the lake in our area go completely dry, as we are on the Spring Creek channel. However, once the lake gets around 559 feet you will have a hard time finding enough water to get a motorized boat to the dock.

This is an older building and frankly was not especially well built back in the day. We keep everything in working order, but the point of this place is to enjoy the lake and porch, not to revel in fancy bathrooms and kitchens. We like those too, but this isn't that house. :) If you are looking for some place that would be described as luxurious, we understand you may stay elsewhere. HGTV would be horrified at the disturbing lack of granite countertops at our waterside retreat. If you are ok someplace that is a bit plain on the inside because you'll be asleep most of the time you are indoors anyway, then we'd love to have you. We try to give an accurate description and post current photos to set expectations so no one is disappointed that our little cabin is not fancy. With that being said, yes, we have ideas for how we could improve the place and are working on them as finances allow, so hopefully it will get fancier in time. We would love that too. :)

The house is in a rural area, so you will be about twenty minutes from town. Despite that, we do have close neighbors on either side, so it is not extremely private.

We are about 10 miles from Centre, AL; about 12 miles from Cedar Bluff, AL; about 18 miles from Piedmont, AL, and about 33 miles from Rome, GA.

Please note: reservations are made on a first come, first serve basis based upon actual bookings. A tentative booking will not guarantee availability if a definite reservation comes through first.

Also, we do keep the calendar 100% up to date. So if the calendar shows your preferred dates as available, you can go ahead and book. No need to message us first.

We have just learned that we are likely subject to the Alabama Lodging Tax, so beginning with any new reservations after 7/14/17 we will collect and remit 5% tax to the Alabama Department of Revenue.

This property is managed by Austin Cooper Investments, LLC.

About Lisa Duke

Atlanta-based small business owner. On the weekends, I love to get away to the lake to unwind.

Lisa Duke purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Lisa Duke chose Centre

Weiss Lake is a hidden gem! Only 90 minutes from the northwest corner of metro Atlanta, it's less crowded than Lanier and Allatoona. Weiss Lake is famous for crappie fishing, but you may also catch bass and catfish - maybe even off our dock!

What makes this cabin unique

Huge dock with cleats to tie up your boat

Screened in porch

Small deck for grilling and outdoor dining

View of the lake from the master bedroom and living room

Fireplace in living room

Now with wifi - 10mbps

At the house itself, you can relax on the porch, deck, or large dock and enjoy the views. Perfect for swimming, kakaying, or fishing. If you have a boat, we are just across the lake from a boat ramp. There are also pontoon and jet ski rentals on the lake.

Our waterfront cabin is within driving distance of several hiking and biking trails, including the paved Chief Ladiga Trail, DeSoto State Park, Little River Canyon National Park, and Talledega National Forest.

The burgers at The Gridiron in Centre are delicious and there is an awesome steakhouse (Linde Marie's) in Cave Springs.

There are several 'antique' stores in Centre, but the best shopping is at Unclaimed Baggage, about an hour and a half north.

In Cedartown, you can go skydiving!

Overall, very comfortable. You could tell the owners are in the process of updating the cabin.

Nice relaxing weekend. The best part was sitting on the dock and watching the beautiful sunsets.

Clean and comfortable

Enjoyed the cabin and especially the dock. Cabin was comfortable but shows it's age. Dishwasher would be nice addition.

Lake Getaway

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was perfect for a getaway for two and our furry friend to the lake. Lisa was great to work with on checkin/checkout times and was quick to respond via text about a question we had while we were there. The umbrella had been damaged in a storm so it wasn't on the dock - which made it harder to keep our dog out there with us with no shade. She ordered one on Amazon and offered to reimburse us if we could pick one up locally - unfortunately, we were not able to find one. Lisa recommended Linde Marie's Steakhouse for an anniversary dinner and it was excellent - so that was much appreciated!

The cabin is obviously older and needs some fixing up to make it fully worth the cost per night and cleaning fee. The stairs up to the back deck were rickety and the doors didn't fully close or lock inside the house - most everything else is cosmetic. Some additional cookware (additional pots/pans & cooking utensils) would have been helpful since there is nowhere close by to grab food.

The location however was perfect for us and we really enjoyed the peace & quiet of the area - while being about 20 minutes from Centre for groceries, etc. The dock was perfect for sunset views and fishing - although we didn't catch a thing over 3 1/2 days. We most enjoyed the screened in back porch for relaxing and playing games. Was surprised by how well the wifi worked! Lisa also has a good bit of floats, kayaks and a stand up paddle board for water fun.

All in all, this is a good cabin and location for a few days away.

The kueric don't work

Bedroom bath needs caulking all over

With work this could be a very wonderful place to stay

Way to expensive for the current condition

Summer Family Time

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a good waterfront home on Lake Weiss to rent this one truly met all of our needs. The screened in porch and the dock are amazing. The house is older but clean and needs a few minor repairs but it met our needs. My only disappointment was that the house was farther from my family than I intended and 15 mins out of town but we made lots of great new memories. I highly recommend this place. Big thanks to the homeowners for sharing their home w/me and my family! Thanks again! Mary from Austin, Texas
