My family and I have been enjoying the up-north experience for over 30 years and always look forward to our times and travels in Northern Michigan.
Nick Kussy purchased this cottage in 1995
The cottage is centrally located near the Pine river, Little Manistee River,Big Manistee River and the Pere Marquette River. You are 45 miles from Traverse City, 50 miles to Ludington, and 30 miles to Manistee. You can spend a relaxing day at the lake or drive to a city and enjoy the many activities city life can offer.
Enjoy the quiet mornings paddling around the lake or fishing for bass. If you enjoy water skiing, spend the day time speeding around the lake. At the end of the day, enjoy the starry nights around a camp fire.
The house was very nice and cozy. We star gazed at night. During the day we fished the lake and went to nearby tippy dam for salmon. All in all, the house had everything we needed and was very quiet and relaxing.
Calm, quiet, peaceful, beautiful: That's what our weekend was like on Harper Lake. The house was clean, comfortable and well-supplied.
My favorite part was kayaking on the nearly-deserted lake just before dawn on Sunday morning. A little bit of mist was rising from the glass-like water. I was able to sneak up on a green heron that was perched on a tree on the island. It didn't notice me until I had been directly underneath it for a few seconds. Earlier in the day a bald eagle circled over us as we sat at the water's edge.
We caught a bass from the dock, although it was tough to fish from the dock due to the shallow water in front of the house. To land this one, I paddled the bobber and line out into deeper water, about 75 feet out. A small perch actually hit the night crawler and then the bass took the perch. It was an interesting catch!
This is a great property for a couple or a small family. We'd definitely like to return next fall.
It is very pretty and peaceful at Harper Lake. Nick has everything you need for a great stay.
This was our first visit to Harper Lake. I was extremely impressed with all of the extras included with this rental. There are life jackets. Kids toys. Games. Some cleaning supplies fishing poles.. .. we have stayed in rentals that didn't even have a broom!this is like being at my one home... stocked very well....it was a relaxing week. All of the weekdays we basically had the lake to ourselves. We went to the island and let our dogs free.. they enjoyed that! The only issue we did have was that the neighbor had tree removal 2 days.. which was loud for hours.. hard to enjoy peace and quiet with that going on. I wish the pontoon was available. It's in need of repair. I cannot think of anything that was missing.. thank you for thinking of everything. Maybe a compact washer dryer would be a great addition... I'm going home with laundry :( thank you for letting us use your home!
Nick and Linda's cabin was perfect for our family getaway! We spent a week with our girls, 3 and 5. The lake was a constant source of fun - they provide paddle boats and a row boat as well as life preservers. We paddled out to the island one day for a big adventure. Short drive to Lake Michigan, many orchards, lots of good fishing in the local rivers. Very quiet in the fall, it was a great place to relax. Cabin had everything we needed, even air conditioning! There is plenty of room inside for poor weather, and lots of room to spread out outside. Enjoyed a few fires and roasted marshmallows, napped in the hammock, ate dinner at the picnic table every night and enjoyed coffee on the deck. We'll be back! Thanks for a great stay!!!
The house is very clean and you can find everything you need (to cook, to play, to enjoy outside...). The place is very beautiful and quiet, we enjoyed being lazy, the paddle boats, the sun and the lake. We stayed two days in the place without visiting cause it was just so relaxing and cool to enjoy to be here. The house is very big with a lot of bedrooms and we can easily imagine how fun it may be to come with friends, children and family !!!! The owner is very nice and kind and you can feel how much love he put in this house; we sure would adore to come back for a new stay !!!!! We're french et nous avons beaucoup apprécié la tranquilité des lieux, la beauté du site, la maison très bien équipée et la gentillesse et la disponibilité de Nick !! Thank you et MERCI pour tout Nick !!...See you soon..;-))
