Guestbook comments from the manager

Stacey is an extremely gracious host; she provided a welcome package on our arrival, including thoughtful touches for our son. The property is as shown in the photos. The living areas are spacious and open, and the yards are large (with regular visits from deer and rabbits). The kitchen is well supplied with dishes and cookware. The house was very clean on our arrival. Stacey is easy to reach and very responsive: our only issue with the property was a corroded burner on the grill, and Stacey had the grill replaced with a brand new one in less than a day. The house is close enough to Rathtrevor Park and Beach that our 4-year old could ride his own bike there. And as another testament to Stacey's commitment to her guests: after I inquired about the bike-ability of the area, she got back to me to let me know that they had obtained three bikes with helmets for their guests to use. All in all, a very good experience.

Beautiful west coast get away with lots of space and close to the beach trail.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5, another family of 3, and my mother stayed comfortably in this beautiful house. The rooms are all nicely decorated with comfortable beds. The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need to make any dish you want to. The living area comfortably fit 9 people to sit and watch a movie or play games. The deck is beautiful and has enough tables and chairs to fit all with a view of the ocean across the street. The house is in a quiet, neighborhood , that is 10-15 minute walk to the beach. There is a lovely trail that you can run or walk on that goes to Rathtrevor beach. Parksville is a 5 minute drive to get what you need. Outside our door, we saw bunnies, deer, bald eagles, and a woodpecker. We loved staying here, our kids had so much fun! It is a perfect spot to get away from all the hustle and bustle and enjoy the West Coast!

Ideal for family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We have been to Parksville before, and we were looking for a place that could accommodate our extended family, including 5 adults and 3 kids. The location was ideal, a nice quite neighbourhood with the beach right across the street. The home was exactly like the pictures, and was large, bright and comfortable. The kitchen was really well equipped with everything we needed to make family meals, which we could then eat together on the large patio. There were also games, beach toys and bikes we could borrow, which was a great bonus. Stacey left a welcome basket with bread, eggs, milk, etc. for our fist breakfast. And Stacey was helpful and responsive leading up to our stay, and provided easy to follow directions and instructions. We've stayed at a lot of home rentals, and this one was one of the best, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a home base in Parksville. We loved our stay here and will be back!

Perfect in Parksville

  • 4 of 5

We were only there for five days for a course but the house was perfect. It was a great location and the home itself provided ample space and privacy if required for the four of us. The upstairs living/dining area was fabulous. We had lots of room to sit around, talk about our course while cooking and/or doing homework at the huge kitchen table. My only regret is that we didn't have a bit more free time to do more exploring in the area. We got out for walks along the beach and estuary but we could always have done more.

Thanks for sharing your lovely space. If needed we will definitely be back!!

Over all we were well satisfied with the property and condition of the house. We would return.

  • 4 of 5

Neighborhood is quiet and close enough to the beach for walks.

Instructions for getting into the house were good.

We tried to get instructions early as we were on the road and also tried to get in earlier in the day but could not as others were leaving the day before. All understandable. I think Stacey would have tried to accommodate us if she could and the early instructions were probably just missed. We were able to get them off our phone o.k.

Some items not in the house would have been nice like a blender, pizza pan and an electric mixer which I suggested in a note and Stacey may do something about that. All other items in the kitchen were all there and well stocked. Appliances and bathrooms were all good and newer and clean.

BBq worked great and was clean, sometimes this is overlooked at other places we have stayed. Beds were comfortable and there was enough room upstairs with the open concept between living room and kitchen to allow some space for guests at dinner.

If you are looking for a place for a larger family in Parksville, don't hesitate to stay here, there is nothing to be afraid of.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words and pointing out the things you've noticed. The items in each of our homes are supplied by the home owners, and we've passed along the items suggested for their consideration. During a guests stay, if you let us know, then we are certainly happy to work to provide you with things that you may need that aren't present in the home. We do everything we can to accommodate our guests requests for early arrival /late check out, etc but unfortunately many times we aren't able to accommodate due to incoming or outgoing reservations and the time it takes to clean and change over our homes. We also do our very best to send out information in a timely manner, as in the case of these guests, where we granted early access to the online check in information given that they were travelling.

Lovely stay as the home was clean, had lots of kitchen equipment and other things that added to the stay. Very close to beach and a quiet nighbourhood. Nice art gallery at the end of the street. Will be back.

Great rental for family gatherings

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our large extended family including a young (<1) baby. They even included a high chair for our use. It is a great open concept living room and kitchen area with the large deck off the kitchen, perfect for accommodating everyone during dinner and socializing. Not on the beach but right across from it, the boys went swimming but too cold for the girls to join in. They caught some huge crabs in the water (catch and release) and we saw seals just off the shore and a beautiful double rainbow one day too. The house has everything you could need and more for a vacation - beach stuff, bikes, chairs, etc. It's close to lots of attractions in the area and very easy to access the island highway to take you anywhere you need to go. The rooms in the basement were a little noisy with people walking around upstairs but we just used a white noise machine for the baby (who never switched from east coast time) and it wasn't an issue. We were in town for a family reunion and charity golf tournament and this rental was perfect for family gatherings. We will for sure stay here again if we return to Parksville, thank again!

Walk to Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park from Young at Heart Cottage....

Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville is one of the province's most popular family destinations.

The attractions include sea (five kilometers of beachfront), forest (complete with a circular, oceanfront trail) and parkland (including shaded picnic grounds and lots of space to knock a ball around). At low tide, the ocean recedes almost a kilometer back from Rathtrevor's shoreline.

This incredible provincial park has it all, expansive sandy beach, wooded trail with old growth trees, day-use area for picnicking and a sought-after campground. A large number of seabirds also enjoy the area making bird watching a popular activity
