Robert and I (Joanne) run a whale watching business on a Tall Ship in St. Andrews, NB. Just over one hour drive away from Eastport. See
Joanne Carney purchased this apartment in 2010
We love our location for it's private setting, hillside views and proximity to the water. Eastport is a wonderful community full of artists, history and beauty. We also have a larger second rental recently listed: 4135787.
New construction with wood, slate and tile flooring and a private lower patio, back yard. Such a wonderfully quiet location without a sound at night. (dead end street). Some water view and treed backyard. Walk down the hill to the beach for beach combing during the day and watching the lighthouse lights in the evening.
Our arrival instructions were clear and we had no trouble finding the property or getting settled. The apartment is just as it is described in the advertisement. It was clean, safe and comfortable. It is unbelievably quiet in this area. No traffic, no parties, private and serene....just the occasional bird and fog horn. The bed is a reasonably comfortable queen. We never ran out of water while showering but there was not enough hot water to take a bath, although there is a tub. The washer and dryer came in very handy and are in good condition. There is no air conditioning and it was sticky and warm, a couple of the evenings. There is a fan. The kitchen could use a lobster pot but otherwise has everything you need. We did not use the grill but there is a nice deck and bbq available for your use. We loved Eastport. The area is a bit depressed economically but the people are friendly and it has a small town, welcoming atmosphere. I don't believe it was advertised as having cable tv but we were happy to find that basic cable was available, as was wireless internet. We enjoyed this VRBO as a base for exploring the area. I would recommend it. The owners also run a whale watching business in St. Andrew NB. It is about 1 1/2 hours away but worth the trip. Make a day of it and visit Minister's Island and explore St. Andrew. We did the tall ship whale watching adventure and would highly recommend it. (they do offer Zodiac jet boat trip option) It was about 4 hours long and so much fun. It exceeded our expectations in every way.
First of all, let me say that this apartment is the MOST completely equipped
self-catering accommodation that we have ever had the pleasure to stay in!
Need a pencil, scotch tape, cup of coffee, an emergency supper? Fear not,
it's all there! And the nicest pots, pans and dishware ever! And right at the
door parking and your pup is welcome, too!
And a special added attraction is the tall ship whale watching excursion over
in St. Andrew,B.C. Canada also owned by the Carney's, at a special BOGO
rate for guests staying 7 nights or more! A marvelous experience, but do not
forget your passport!
The apartment is immaculate, the kitchen and bathroom are very functional and
a very big TV takes care of one's leisure time.
if you want to write a book or essay, this is a very quiet spot in eastport. neighborhood is lovely and quiet. one can hear the fog horns out on the deck, but
you can not hear inside. furnished nicely for the rental and should be very comfortable for two people. i felt very secure and the unit was very clean. i mention this, because "clean" is very, very important. this was the case. parking is easy, close to the entrance. IGA (grocery store) is close, some restaurants nearby. i would highly recommend the chowder house about 1 1/2 mile from the unit. great food, delightful servers and on an upper deck from the water, with great
views, especially during sunset... if you want to travel to see attractions, you will need to allow time for the travel. this is a place that is tucked away and not necessarily meant for total sight-seeing. however, i did travel and it was fine and lovely to come "home" to the spot that is quiet. during the summer, it is cool in the house and there are fans if needed. the owners are very helpful if you need information and respond very quickly. they also own a whale watching ship where tours are available. i would define this as overall as a four star place to stay! enjoy, i think you will, if you choose this place!
We stayed in this lovely apartment over the Christmas holiday - a wonderful little getaway! The place was so cozy, comfortable and offered everything you could need. We have stayed at several places DownEast over the years, and this it by far one of the nicest. The place was spotless, bright, and so easy to settle into - we wished we could have stayed a month! Our hosts were incredibly kind - the Christmas tree was much appreciated!! Lovely places to walk, close to town and lots of eagles and deer. We look forward to visiting again! Thank you, Joanne and Rob, for making our trip so perfect! Karyn & Kevin
My wife and I stayed here on an extended weekend in mid-October. The location was in a quiet neighborhood, yet walking distance to downtown. The apartment could not have been cleaner or cozier. Got to meet the owner as well. we could not have been happier with our choice. Thanks!!!
Very clean. Very nice. Great out of the way location with a nice walk to downtown maybe a mile or less. If you adventure down the hill I'm sure you can explore also. We loved the simplicity of the place. Say hi to Brady the retriever across the road too. He is so sweet.
Eastport is an island in the Bay of Fundy with wonderful waterviews abounding. Take a stroll along the beach, pick sea glass and shells and watch a whale blow off in the water. Take a boat out whale watching. (50% off Jollybreeze whale watching with one week rentals). Explore historic downtown with many art galleries. Hike at Shackford State Park for excellent vistas. Catch of view of the Bald Eagles soaring on the wind currents out the back porch. Fire up the BBQ and relax on the back deck. Many festivals including the largest pirate festival on the East Coast! Take a day trip on the ferries over to Deer Island and Campobello Island to visit the picturesque lighthouses and Roosevelt's summer home.
