The house is beautifully decorated and the location is stunning with the view of the river (Ritcey's Cove)
Our group of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids under 10, plus our small dog) had a terrific 2-week August vacation at Heron's Perch. The house is very comfortably furnished--comfy living room, very generously sized dining room, great well-equipped kitchen, and spacious comfortable bedrooms. Bathrooms were also great and modern. Location is perfect: close to Hirtle and Sand Dollar beaches; not far from Lunenburg and Bridgewater; gorgeous drives along the coast (LaHave Bakery a short drive and ferry ride away, Risser Beach/Provincial Park also nearby). Owners are responsive and friendly. No hesitation in recommending this property.
Great location! House is perfect for families like ours...4 teenagers. Beautiful old house with many upgrades. Large rooms with plenty of space to spread out. Close to Hirtles Beach and Lunenburg. One of the bathrooms does not have a fan and the window doesn't open...not ideal in warm weather.
Overall, a great place for our vacation!
This is a marvelous home rental for the money. The rental is probably priced lower for a couple reasons that, for us, actually proved advantageous. First, the fairly basic renovation preserves a lot of old house charm, but has not removed all the old house inconveniences, like doors that stick and windows that don't stay open. Once we found props for all the sashes and resolved the conflict over 3 fans for 4 bedrooms, we were comfortable, both physically and psychologically. We ourselves live in a fussy historic home, painted and decorated with similar taste. Second, the property is a winding 20-minute drive to the big attractions and amenities (e.g., grocery store) in Lunenberg, and Riverport's nothing but a post office and houses. But we still found favorite attractions nearby. Based on our sampling of a few beaches and conversation with other beachgoers, the nearest beach, Hirtle's, may be the best on the south shore! Just beautiful. The most interesting natural attraction on our tour of eastern Canada was the nearby Ovens (better than the Hopewell "Flowerpots"). And while the road and telephone wires mar the view immediately in front of the property, Ritcey's Cove is still a lovely spot. If you have a kayak, just carry across the street and through some high grass at high tide for a convenient, safe paddle on the cove or upper LaHave. Very pleasant and solicitous owners too!
Our family really enjoyed staying here. It was clean , tidy with a nice décor It had everything we needed for our visit , Comfy beds ,lots of space and in a wonderful quiet location near beaches and other attractions. So glad we decided to stay at Riverport house.
Seven of us stayed at Herons Perch in July 2015 for 8 days. There was my family and my brothers family, (total of three kids under 10). It was perfect for us. It is a beautifully restored home in Riverport Nova Scotia. The first thing that struck me was how quiet it was in this community. It is on a road but the traffic is infrequent. There was oodles of room, it is a spacious home with big bright rooms. The kids had fun playing games out on the well kept lawn and we used the bbq on several occasions on the deck. There is an incredible beach (Hirtles) within a few minutes drive from the house and many other things to do nearby, including fishing for Mackeral from the local Scallop plant wharf two or three kms down the road. . It is about a ten minute drive to Lunenburg, and there a very good local convenience store/liquor store about 1 km down the road. We would definitely stay here again. The home away description of the property is accurate and the owners were helpful and quick to respond via email.
