About Diane Barcelo, owner
I am a sculptor and my husband is a playwright. We are active members of New London's vibrant art community and we both work for The University of Connecticut.
Diane Barcelo, owner purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Diane Barcelo, owner chose New London
I used to come to Ocean Beach every summer as a kid so when I moved to the area for a teaching position, I was lucky to find this spot. This was my first home. I fell in love with it when I first stepped inside and I love it still. My husband and I recently moved to a larger home nearby. We love New London for the vibrant arts community, the water and the ideal location- an easy ride to NYC, Boston and Providence.
What makes this Cottage unique
The best part of living here is the porch and next best thing is the beach. It is a great place to walk, jog or bike along the river, the cove or the boardwalk. The Eugene O'Neill Theatre is close by as is Harkness Park, Avery Point and the Mystic Seaport and Aquarium. We live by the water but can go into town so easily to have a meal, shop or visit friends.

Great place to stay!
My husband and I stayed over a weekend and the home was just lovely. Diane really cares about this home and it shows. It felt very homey and comfortable and we were very happy there. Nice and close to the beach, too, which was one of our favorite parts! Thanks for the hospitality, Diane!
Great home & Great Location
My wife and I stayed here for the weekend and loved it.
Glad you enjoyed your stay!
Fun family getaway!
We decided to stay local this year and could not be happier. Diane is a pleasure to work with and provided a comfortable home for 4 adults and 2 young children to enjoy. The walk to the beach is about 5 minutes and once on the boardwalk there is endless fun. We would certainly recommend and rent from Diane in the future!
So glad you enjoyed your time here! Thanks for being such great house guests. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Comfortable cottage, great porch, close to everything
I was there with 4 adults and 3 kids, there was plenty of space for everyone and we really enjoyed the big porch where we put in a hammock for everyone to enjoy. The grill is in great condition and cooks great. The beach is about a 2 minute walk and is free entry after 5pm but the property includes 4 beach passes anyway. We enjoyed the beach, water slides, fishing, morning walks, volleyball, and mini golf among other things, but a big attraction that most people don't realize is the small marshy areas of the beach with plenty of animals and shells to see, touch and collect, we visited the mystic aquarium nearby as well as brownstone discovery park which is amazing. Overall we had a great time and did a lot of cooking in the home which saved a ton of money. Very pleased with the property!
Glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for being such wonderful guests!
Great stay, minutes from beach
House has everything you need. Sofa pulls out and sleeps two. Bedroom on first floor affords a lot of privacy. Washer and Dryer in basement. Porch is so pleasant so sit and enjoy coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at sunset.
Diane was a pleasure to rent from.
Great place, a great time and hot, hot weather
Diane is an excellent host, we arrived late after a long hot drive from Baltimore and she greeted us with a 6-pack of local beer - what a star! After showing us around and mentioning a few New London places of interest (culinary and scenic) she left us but made sure we had her full contact details and ensured us she was available if we needed her.
The property is as described, a cottage with wrap around porch, and with mostly sanded and polished floorboards throughout. There is carpet in the main bedroom for that cosy touch. The house was spacious enough for our family of 5, two parents and 3 grown-up children. The cottage is entirely suitable for full self-catering including use of the gas barbecue on the porch as well as the fully equipped kitchen. During our stay we did a mix of eating-in and eating out at local places as recommended by Diane.
The property is only minutes away from Ocean Beach Park which has a fabulous sugar-sand beach, boardwalk and olympic-sized swimming pool with waterslide. Small children are well catered for with an amusement park and rides.
The local area is great. We took a long walk along Pequot Avenue gawping at the magnificent properties and the spectacular views across the bay, especially at dusk and early evening. We also enjoyed a boat ride around the many famous local lighthouses - recommended.
We were sorry to leave but sadly after any holiday real life beckons you back home and we had a plane to catch back to the UK. Would we stay again? In New London - yes. In Diane's cottage, definitely yes.
So glad you had such a nice stay! You did catch the beginning of a grueling hot spell and we installed 2 air conditioners for comfortable sleeping in that heat. Thanks for taking such good care of our house. We hope to see you again.
