Reviewer Comments:

We brought our two dogs on this trip - very thankful that the property owners are dog-friendly! We had a very peaceful and relaxing week - I could not have asked for a better setting. The property is on the east side of the lake, on a private, well-maintained road, about 5 houses from the end of the road. Neighbors on either side were very friendly and exceptionally quiet. In fact, the whole lake is quiet. It was a holiday weekend, and the most activity we saw was 3 boats out on the water, and a few bonfires in the evening! The beach is sandy in front of the property with very little weeds, and has a very gradual drop-off. It was perfect for the dogs (and the humans) to wade in! The bed was comfortable. We didn't need to run the window a/c unit in the living room, since it was cool enough during our stay. We spent a lot of time in the Traverse City area, and it is about a 25-30 minute drive to get there, which was not a big deal for us, since it was such a nice location overall, and so peaceful to come back to after a busy day! The bathroom is very dated, looks to be original, and needs renovating badly. And the well water is very high in iron in this area and was very smelly, but this was not a surprise, since we read this on other reviews. The kitchen could use a bit of updating as well, but it was certainly functional! It sounds like the property owners are planning to do some renovating but still maintain the original character of the cottage. Suggestions I have are: renovate the bathroom; invest in a good water softener/filtration system; purchase a new refrigerator. We would stay here again, for sure!

Reviewer Comments:

Great location on the quiet lake, loved the swim dock, sunrises, sunsets! Ant problem in kitchen, bathroom and kitchen could use some updating to be more comfortable. Fan in spare room was not usable bc it was so noisy and loosely attached. But you can't use it anyway if a kid is sleeping in the top bunk. Bed in master was super squeaky. Overall though a great place to stay!

Had a wonderful week at Leaning Pines. I love the retro look of the cabin. Reminds me of the places we stayed at in the 60's except for the TV and Microwave. Comfy beds and lots of fish to catch!

Reviewer Comments:

Myself and 3 friends stayed over Labor Day weekend and we had an absolute blast! The rental offered almost everything we needed. The lake was quiet and peaceful, and the fire pit outside provided enjoyable times at night. While the house itself could use some updating - it really did provide all that we needed for the weekend. Grocery stores and restaurants near by was a plus. It was also nice being a short drive from Traverse City. I would say the only downside to our stay here was the almost unbearable smell of the well water. We couldn't use it for drinking, cooking, ice or even brushing our teeth. We ended up using bottled water for these. We did use the shower, but only because we had no other choice. After a morning of everyone showering and getting ready to start the day, we had to air out the house each time because all you could smell was sulfur/rotten eggs. I do not see this issue preventing us from visiting in the future, but it would make the stay slightly more enjoyable.
