We have a group that stays in the Acorn Cottage one week each year. The owners are fantastic, they've become family. Great place! Can't wait til next year!

Secluded, Stocked BUT Mice!

  • 2 of 5

This cabin was very spacious and comfortable as could be. The kitchen and pantry were stocked with anything you could possibly need. The over, microwave, and dishwasher are outdated and oven temperatures unreliable as well as the cooking times in the microwave. Plenty of soft towels and linens were provided and the cabin itself was clean. I was excited about the secluded space and in the cul de sac, I never worried about the safety of my children outside. The property could be very beautiful if it were not for the garbage lying all around and building materials (old wood and nails and paint cans) scattered. There is a tiny stream off the pond that was poisoned with some sort of stain or sealer--not a pretty sight.

The final thing is the mouse, or mice, I suspect. We had more than one item nibbled by a mouse over our five night stay.

Owner's Response: I was happy to give them a discount when they asked for clergy. Finding out the husband was a doctor assigned to our local hopsital I can't see how clergy applied . The tiny stream off the pond is not poisoned, we on the Plateau have a great deal of iron in the water and soil and shows that color because it is leached out of the soil. Some of the garbage mentioned were from the two boys not being watched andwe found floating in the pond several of the tiki tourches that we had by the firepit. They were broken and thrown in the pond along with soccor ball and bottles. Dogs were not leased and finally had to ask the parents to keep the kids down at the cottage because they were up our house ringing the doorbell. We ask them nicely to keep the out of the garages and outbuildings because of the equipment; we have addressed this issue by padlocking them. We have not found any evidence of mice, nor has anyone ever complained. We did go ahead and put mousebait in the cellar. We are hoping to update the stove this upcoming spring, and have added a oven temperature probe inside.

Perfect place for a weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I met my brother and his wife for a long weekend. We were delighted with the property - it was everything it was marketed to be - and we found John and Linda to be accommodating and gracious hosts. The living room was spacious - the pictures didn't do that justice - and the kitchen had every gadget we needed. Such a charming place for reconnecting with loved ones. The only thing we didn't think about was that we might not have cell phone service! So it would be important to give the cottage land line phone number to family/friends who might need to call, or use a phone app that utilizes wifi. (My brother did have cell service; it depends on your provider.) We have already recommended the Cottage to friends and family members, and look forward to utilizing it again ourselves in the future.

A wonderful vacation property

  • 4 of 5

Loved the property, lots of things provided to make a person feel at home........We forgot mustard at home and thought we would have to make a trip to the store, but lo and behold.....there was mustard on the pantry shelf.......We were so happy, the last thing we wanted to do was go to the store after being out all day. The things provided like laundry detergent, hand soap and paper products we all top quality named brands too.

We would book this cabin again, it was everything we wanted and more.

When we arrived we received a phone call from the owners asking if we had everything we needed, we were also made to feel very welcome to visit them one of the days we were down there. It was obvious that if we were in need of anything then help was only a phone call away.

We had a wonderful time.......Thanks
