This private house is conveniently located in Carefree, AZ, surrounded by 20 acres of land preserve. Totally private! This is a home, not a villa or condo. Easy walking to shopping, dining and entertainment in the village of Carefree. Just minuets from historic downtown Cave Creek and not far from the Boulders Resort. Carefree is located due north of Scottsdale.
This home is bright and airy and in great condition. It is comfortable and 'user friendly', the privacy amazing. Out door living at its very best, can not be more comfortable and private. My home is very easy to maintain. Neighbors call it the HAPPY HOUSE. Viewed from the private back patio are, Javalina, quail, coyote, bob cats, desert fox, road runners, Jack rabbits and mule deer are seen regularly at our natural watering hole or frolicking in Galloway wash. A mountain lion has been seen as well. Wish there was a photograph. There is a 360 degrees of Mountain views and the very best Arizona sunsets. The home is located in the heart of Carefree, but one would never know it as it is surrounded by 20 acres of Land Trust.
The house is situated on 2+ acres with a privacy wall that surrounds the pool and outdoor living area that are enjoyed day or night. I am very proud of my home and keep it clean, organized and personal.
There is a Living room / dining area / TV room and workable, well equipped kitchen. Master bedroom has king sized bed, master bath, walk in closet and a private bedroom Patio. The mattress is foam.
A comfortable King bed in the guest room can be separated into twin beds.
Enjoy romantic, starry Arizona nights from the pool, patio or around the outside bee hive fireplace. Great outside dining area. Well landscaped, most enjoyable. Wonderful for entertaining. Wonderful for relaxing. Wonderful for private sunbathing.
Enjoy horseback riding, spring baseball training, golf, hiking, all are within close proximity . We are located in the north end of the Valley of the Sun, anything that Phoenix or Scottsdale has to offer is no further than an hour away or less at the very most. Sedona Az. is a good hour north. Tonto National Forest, Bartlett Lake 15-30 minutes east. A great location for city access and real desert living and exploring. Great hikes to indian ruins and parks (Spur Cross, Tonto National Park, Browns Ranch). All very close. Within walking distance is the post office, grocery store, farmers market, very fine dining, cowboy dining, wine bars, shops and local live music.
Just a Gem! You won't go wrong! And we will make every effort to make sure you are happy.

Susan L. M. Smith purchased this house in 2004
This home has been purchased in Carefree as our retirement home. It is perfect. Perfect location, perfect layout, perfect views. The house is a perfect size for a couple or two. While in the home you feel like it is really big, but it is not. You can easily manage it without feeling over whelmed. It truly is perfect. I am not ready to retire and are letting others enjoy it till our time comes. This is a home not just a rental! Please take care of my home!
Privacy! Privacy! Privacy! Views! Views! Views! Plus amazing wild life. Superior Resort Living within the privacy of a home. Check out our awesome reviews. Out door living at its very best.
We are centrally located for easy access to major roads that connect you to the beautiful parks and attractions of Arizona. Far enough away from the highways to be in a rural community, yet close enough to go to other wonderful Arizona places with ease. Being north of Scottsdale puts you in a more rural community without the hustle and bustle of the city, yet with a simple drive the city is accessible. The access to hiking and outdoor activities is right there without traffic. Our Carefree/Cave Creek location is in town, which, means most everything is in walking distance. You may walk to dinner, wine bars and walk home. You can walk to the grocery store or post office. But when you are at the home you would think that town is a zillion miles away and that is because we are sounded by 20 acres of Land Trust. Your going to love it, just like I do!
Colorful, casual and comfortable!! If you are a fan of the Carefree/Cave Creek/North Scottsdale area you could do no better than to spend a week or so at Painted Carefree. It's a totally unique private home with great outdoor living space to catch the desert sun and to enjoy warm, relaxing evenings; Susan's personal touch will make you feel so right at home you won't want to go home. We met there to attend a conference, conduct our brief annual meeting, attend some Spring Training games. Perfect
My bride and I celebrated a very special time (4 days) at Susan's place in the wonderful foothills in Carefree. It's an amazingly appointed southwestern home that feels just like that - home. It is surrounded by 5 acres of privacy with a preserve out back full of wildlife. We heard wildlife every night as we had our dinner on the back deck. Weather was warm in the day and cool at night. The back "garden" is truly a sanctuary with plants, brush, trees ... a pool with spa that fit in among the extensive sandstone decking. I asked for some special things and they went over the top in providing lots of fun things, some of which I didn't recognize because it fit so well into warm home. I'm in a wheel chair and had no problem getting around either. Some rentals make you feel obligated to leave some sort of tip. Painted Carefree made me "want" to leave a generous tip for Terri, who prepared the place so well for us. It's only 30mins from my home but feels like a world away. We will be back regularly to have private time in a truly special place. Thanks, from my heart :).
We've just returned home after 2 weeks at the Painted Carefree.
Found Susan and Teri very friendly and easy to work with. The house was delightfully quirky with lots of personal touches which made it feel like home.
The outside area was fabulous, private and spacious. The garden was lovely and the pool was amazing.
We saw lots of birds and animals and the bobcat once, but unfortunately no camera. There are lots of supermarkets and deli's nearby with plenty of restaurants in Cavecreek.
The town of Carefee is worth a look with the biggest sundial ever (and it was accurate).
It's just the place for a lovely relaxing holiday and we would love to go back again.
What a wonderful place Painted Carefree is to rent. It is the largest two bedroom house we've ever seen. The outdoor living space is amazing, too! The owner has thought of every detail and it's evident the minute you walk in the door, We foumd Carefrebhaie and the surrounding area special and will be sorry to leave it behind.
Just returned from another 2 week visit to the Painted Carefree. We think it is our favorite place to visit in the world. The home is colorful and comfortable and the outdoor space with the mountain views is a piece of paradise. We love relaxing at poolside and watching the birds and wildlife over the back wall. The Carefree/Cave Creek area is so unique and this home just seems to belong.
Thank you Susan for your gracious hospitality and Teri for your offers to assist us in any way. We were not disappointed in anyway by our stay and look forward to 2017.
My husband and I spent a week in this lovely home. It is warm and inviting and has a fabulous private patio with spa, dipping pool, seating areas, and citrus trees. The patio overlooks an open space for wildlife viewing.
There are good hiking trails, horseback riding, and some restaurants in the area.
I highly recommend this rental property.
we loved this home - really did: it was so very personal, really reflecting what I guess to be the true character of the owner
it is beautifully laid out - so much space! we were still getting lost on our last day!!
we loved the outdoor areas especially: we spent so much time looking over the wall - watching (lots of) quail, northern flicker, road-runner, desert wren as well as rock squirrel (?), jack rabbit / hare and, much to our delight, five coyote together! it was really amazing ...
the house was wonderful as a base - great to fall back into after a busy (and hot!) day exploring: and everywhere seemed so close, especially the malls; the local restaurants were great, though walking there was, well, not easy - whatever happened to sidewalks?!
our favourite - by a long way - was TONTO (we drove there!): undoubtedly the best restaurant we've eaten in in the US for many years ...
all-in-all, a great holiday, a wonderful experience - but not enough time to do all the things we could have done!
our thanks to a very helpful and considerate owner for allowing us to share her beautiful home: and also thanks to Teri for looking after us so efficiently
The Cave Creek, Carefree area is a eclectic western area that has fine dinning and funky western bars. Lots of hiking, biking and horse back riding trails. Golf is within minutes. Fishing, boating, a short beautiful drive away. Shopping around the conner. Art festivals on most weekends. Easy day trips to Arizona's best locations. Thirty minutes to spring training or Barrett car auction. Near perfect sunny weather all year long. Cave Creek was established in the early 1860's. It is part of the Military trail and has been home to Native Americans for centuries. Gold was discovered and people came to prosper. Then ranching and now an eclectic mix of everything. Movie stars on the hills, cowboys at the bars.
For you that have not been to Arizona here is a bit of information. If you are just traveling here to get out of the cold winter, of course, winter months are it! But if you are traveling to visit Arizona and see all the sights, mid September, October, mid April through May are the best. Kids are in school so not so many people at the parks, temperature is cool enough not to be uncomfortable hot, the "tourist" have basically gone home, no extra heating of the pool, the most fabulous warm nights and little to no rain. My home is very centrally located, far enough from the freeways to be out of the city and close enough to travel to various regions of the state. It is a perfect base for sight seeing. Hope to see you!
