Many thanks to Owen and his team for crafting such a remarkable property. The house definitely exceeded our expectations and the photos do not do it justice! As you wander around the property you will find more and more rooms, with a surprise in each corner (grand piano, ping pong and pool tables etc.). Not only was there ample amount of room (we had a party of 23), the living areas were very tastefully decorated as well! The group enjoyed viewing all the rare antiquities and vintage trinkets.
The group barely left the house as we enjoyed using the pool and hot tub. Each night we gathered around the amazing fire put down by the river, which was stocked and prepared for us pre-arrival. In addition, the kitchen was large and user-friendly, especially since we had several experienced chefs in the group. We also had no problems moving some furniture around to fit all 23 people at the dining table.
Furthermore, the service provided by Kathryn and Corey was extremely prompt. Kathryn made the process hassle-free and even sent out pre-arrival packets that provided us with information on the surrounding area. Corey, the house manager, was very responsive when it came to house issues, and he also did a great job bringing us some extremely powerful speakers.
If you are looking for a tasteful mansion tucked away in a little slice of paradise to catch up with friends and family this is it. We would definitely want to return next year.
My family and I hosted a large group of family with ages ranging from 70 to 1 year old. Everyone loved the expansive house and there was plenty of room for all the kids to disappear and play while the adults caught up. The house is situated on a gorgeous location and even the non-early birds were hard pressed to miss a sunrise on the Hudson. While the kitchen is not one that a gourmet chef may desire, it totally offered all that we needed to prepare the meal of the year. The three separate downstairs living rooms offered everyone a chance to go off on their own and all the bedrooms were big and nice. If you like showering, there is only 1 shower so be prepared for that, but the tubs are all very nice and great for kids. The owner and his team were attentive and friendly as well with great tips on local haunts and easy getaways. I could not recommend this home more highly to large groups that like an isolated setting with easy access to nature and the Hudson river. And the hot tub was outstanding given the warm fall weather too.
We had a big group of people escape the city and come to the house for a weekend of good food and company. The house and grounds were lovely, we used the hot tub and lit fires in the fireplace and took advantage of the big tables for family dinner. This was our second year visiting and we will definitely be back.
This listing is a truly special find. A huge home with great spaces for hanging out with the group or space to find some solitude when you need it. The owner's use of pieces of the original structure, re-purposed in really creative ways, brought a unique character to the estate. The pool was warm and large enough for our group, hot tub was excellent, bedrooms comfortable, well stocked kitchen and quality BBQ, beautiful views - We will definitely be back, thanks!
My family and I were fascinated by the beauties of this location. Not only does the house have amazing features and great natural lighting, but the tranquility, the surroundings and the view is more than a thumbs up. Definitely a go to place to get away from urban rural area and escape to a calm and vintage style home. We used the location for a wedding and it was perfect. The house complimented our theme and you can play around with the area and layout. They have large open space and the pool and hot tub were fun! This is a place we are thinking of traditionally visiting once every year if possible.
My wife and I have nothing positive to say about Shakespeare on the Hudson. Dealing with property managers and the groundskeeper, Bud, was unpleasant. We booked our stay through Homeaway.com and advised all people involved that we were having a wedding there. 3 days after our stay we were told that we owed an exorbitant "event fee" which popped up out of nowhere. I had to take the owner, Owen Lipstein, to court because he withheld our damage deposit even though we left the premise immaculate. Although it was too late, I read reviews on homeaway.com which had other unhappy customers who also had their high damage deposit fee withheld without cause. In court, they lied about me telling them about a wedding. The two property managers I dealt with the entire time have since been fired from their team, probably due to incompetence. A horror story throughout!
As for the house. There were no lights by the pool, the firewood that we paid extra to have was brought to us the night before we left even though we asked for it the first night. (5 day stay) Most of the outlets in the house did not work. Their was poison oak around the walking paths and base of the trees which were easy enough to rub up against. We liked the shabby sheik appeal but the house was more dilapidated than sheik.
I will say that the view from the house is the best thing about this place. Beautiful view but the backyard is pretty much unusable because it's a big hill. The place looks great in pictures, other than that it's not good.
DO NOT STAY HERE! This place is not worth the money we spent.
And oh, to cover up their mistakes they destroyed my wedding sign which directed our guests down the right driveway before the wedding started. We found it in the bushes the day after when guests complained about having a hard time locating the place.
