My name is Dave, I am an avid summer and winter enthusiast. I can help direct you to the best spots to have fun.
The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 1997
I chose this property because it is not too far from town, it has a creek and pond, killer view, and the only sound you hear is the wind in the trees and the water rushing by.
Watch the sun come up over the mountain in the mornings. Lay on the deck at night and star gaze at the millions of stars in the sky.
Enjoy laying in the hammock next to the pond and creek. Swimming in the pond will refresh you, as the water comes straight from mountain snowpack.
The spring flowers are spectacular along the mountain stream and around the pond.
My husband, seven year old son, and I, along with our one year old puppy, just spent four days and nights at this wonderful rental. (My husband was doing the Castle Crags Century Ride and my son and I tagged along.)
The views from the yard and balcony are amazing, you could not ask for a better view of Mt. Shasta than you have from this property. We had a great time exploring the property, including the small pond just down the hill from the house, and we loved seeing all the wildlife at the nearby lake. I've already had three friends ask for the property details after seeing the photos I posted to facebook while staying there.
The house was clean and well appointed. There is a queen bed in a small room downstairs and a king bed upstairs in the large master suite/loft -- my son said the upstairs bed was the most comfortable he'd ever been on. The downstairs shower/bathroom was perfect and the kitchen appliances all worked wonderfully.
The house is remote enough that you feel secluded and can enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest, but is still easy to reach and within just a few miles/minutes of grocery stores and restaurants. We spent some of our time in Weed/Mt. Shasta exploring Pluto's Cave, Castle Crags, Mt. Shasta City Park, and Lake Siskiyou and feel we barely scratched the surface of activities available to do. We can't wait to get back to the area and would gladly stay here again.
Shasta is right in front, great place, nice hikes, great for the dog. What more could you ask for!
Would stay there again for sure.
We had a great time in this well-appointed home. Relaxing space, great views, and lots of walking paths. Only suggestion we would make is that it would have been great to have had some information on the local area, things to do, notes about the property, and maybe some instructions on how to leave the property when we departed (we just sort of guessed and did our best with time we had that morning).
Overall, great place to visit if you need some quiet time. Careful though of icy driveway up to property. :)
Dave was a very good communicator with prompt replies.
The pictures do not do the cabin justice. Great gourmet kitchen and spectacular master suite.
just spent an idyllic 5 days at Dave's cabin in the woods, and it could not have been much better! The cabin is very modern and comfortable, great beds, awesome views from the patio, kitchen, and master bedroom. Hammond Ranch is a close-in yet far away location with beautiful meadows and views of the Eddys and Mt Shasta.
We went with plans to hike, swim in mountain lakes, run, kayak, eat every meal outside, watch movies (on a very nice TV, with a great selection of movies, BTW), spend time outdoors without other people nearby, and we were able to do every bit of that!
Dave was a very helpful and friendly host (offered rafts for floating), but mostly stayed completely out of our way, and respected our peace and quiet.
The upstairs master suite could easily accommodate an air bed, it is so spacious, and the kitchen has every gourmet appliance you could want (espresso machine, tea kettle, food processor, etc).
The quiet, and the views of Mt Shasta are incredible. Thanks Dave for a great escape; we will be back!
