Sebastopol House Rental Photos and Description

Queen bed and bathroom upstairs, queen sofabed and full size bed downstairs.

You Just Found Your Heaven on the Hill

I have listed in detail below the various highlights of The Birdhouse, but if you want to know how great it really is...just skip to the reviews section. Our guests sum up the beauty, comfort and peacefulness of this vacation rental way better than I ever could.

Here is my version....When folks come to visit, they never want to leave. This is why we created The Birdhouse. Now, it can be yours to enjoy.

Located one hour north of San Francisco, smack-dab in the middle of the world famous Sonoma County wine country. We are 20 minutes from the beautiful Pacific coast or the magnificent redwoods at Armstrong Woods. The Sebastopol area is bursting with world class wineries, restaurants, art, music, and so much more.

The Birdhouse at FancyNest Farm is perched among the pine trees with sweeping western views of the vineyards. This light-filled, one bedroom home is perfect for your next relaxing vacation in the wine country.

The main living area is open and spacious with 17' ceilings and ample seating. We want you to feel at home with thoughtful design touches that go beyond the normal vacation rental. Of course we have WiFi and TV. The living room is connected to the dining and kitchen area, making it easy to keep the conversation going. The sofa pulls out to a 4 1/2 inch queen memory foam hateful bar across the back. The nook off the living room has a full size bed and good lighting. It is a perfect place for kids to sleep or to have an afternoon nap in the sun. The true highlight of the room is the bank of western facing windows...and the ever-changing view.

We have stocked the cabinets as if we were staying there; all that you need to cook an excellent meal as if you were home. Your basic condiments and spices are on hand because we would want that if we were on vacation. We included a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and grinder, crock pot and a dishwasher. The glass dining table has four mid-century chairs that mom bought back in '64 plus that great view. The sliding door off the kitchen opens to the multi-tiered deck which has an outdoor table, chairs and umbrella. The charcoal grill is at the ready in case you bring back oysters from Tomales. Or veggies from the many farmer's markets.

Without exception, everyone who walks into the bedroom is enveloped by serenity and peacefulness. Great attention was paid to create a space where your troubles can melt away. We invested in a top of the line memory foam mattress, (waterproof and bedbug proof encasements for your ease of mind) excellent sheets, high quality feather pillows and lovely down duvet and sea foam green blanket. We installed our incredible collection of oil paintings depicting images of San Francisco from the 50's, 80's and 90's. This original work was made by the Owners, Nancy Irish and her mother, Pat Irish Amez, as well as Pat's sister, Diana Creber. Sit on the comfy chair with reading light or outside on the balcony overlooking the pool. A beautiful wooden dresser has a mirror and lighting. The large closet houses an iron and board for your convenience.

A path on the western side of the building leads you to the pool and hot tub, which is shared with the property owners. The pool is passive heated during the spring, summer and early fall months with a solar blanket. The hot tub sits on a lovely perch where you will enjoy the amazing views. This is a place where you can further unwind and relax.

There is ample parking for two cars.

The property is 2 1/2 acres. Casual gardens spaces are interspersed with Mother Nature herself. We have many apple trees. The greenhouse is a work in progress. The lasting impression of this place is the vast sky. From many locations you have a 180 degree view of unobstructed openness. The BIRDHOUSE is named and lovingly decorated to honor the many varieties of birds who call FancyNest Farm home. Look up and you might see a red shouldered hawk drawing circles in the sky. Listen carefully to hear the hummingbird zipping about in the bottle brush trees. We provided a bird feeder and bath so you can have an upfront experience with the birds. On a clear night be prepared for a spectacular show of stars. We have a fire pit to keep you warm while you take in the hushed beauty.

About Nancy Irish and Doug Blumer

FancyNest Farm belongs to our Mother, Pat Amez. Pat, her daughter Nancy Irish and son-in-law Doug Blumer are the trio behind FancyNest. Pat is a renowned painter and several of her works are on display in The Birdhouse. She will even give a private tour of her original watercolors in her house if you ask nicely!

Doug and Nancy are the leaders of a local Americana Band called 'The Bohemian Highway'. You will receive a copy of their latest album as a thanks when you check in. Many guests are thrilled to have a 'soundtrack' to their stay.

Pat moved to this location with her family back in the mid-70's. Nancy graduated from the local high school. Fast forward to 2010...Doug and Nancy had lived for over 20 years in the heart of San Francisco's North Beach District. Pat was thinking about selling the place and moving on. Together, they decided to try to preserve the family homestead. The property has had many significant upgrades, and now we are focusing on the rental property.

Nancy Irish and Doug Blumer purchased this house in 1976

Why Nancy Irish and Doug Blumer chose Sonoma County

This location is special. The incredible expansive views just make you relax the moment you drive down the hill to the house. There is space just to sit and contemplate nature. Open sky to watch the hawks circling above. We honored the birds by focusing our design around being able to view these wonders of nature. The private deck is on the eastern side of the house which provides a secluded retreat for you to sit and watch the birds at the feeder and the bird bath. The Birdhouse looks west to the beautiful vineyards across the valley. Sunsets can be breathtaking.

What makes this house unique

Wake up to the sound of the California Quail chirping. The wild turkeys will gobble by. The soaring hawks. The beyond-the-speed-of-light humming birds. And thats just a few birds we can name.

The house is light filled. Art filled. Comfort filled. You will relax here! We strove to make this an incredible place that WE want to spend time in.

We are also centrally located to all that is wonderful about Western Sonoma County. You can walk along the magnificent Pacific coastline in under 30 minutes. You can stroll among the majestic redwoods at Armstrong woods. You can ride your bike on the back roads. Don't forget the many amazing wineries and great restaurants scattered around the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Birdhouse in Sebastopol truly is a relaxing haven! We enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset over the neighboring vineyard from the wonderful deck above the house. We also enjoyed meals there while quiet breezes tinkled the wind chimes and cooled the air at the end of the day. The inside of the house is a feast for the eyes...vibrant colors and gorgeous art pieces of every medium grace the walls and shelves. The kitchen is well-appointed and provided everything that we needed during our stay....including a beautiful bouquet in the window to greet us. Each and every window in the Birdhouse has a different view of the surrounding area that draws your eye back again and again. The pool and spa were enjoyed by all of us...everything you would need from sunscreen to towels was provided. We look forward to returning whenever we are in the area.

Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The Birdhouse was so much better than any of the pictures on Homeaway, and the pictures are pretty great! Surrounded by natural beauty and amazing views outside ,tasteful decor and comfort inside ,as well as fabulous art, this place was the perfect retreat for us to relax before our daughters wedding. Doug and Nancy were available if we needed anything, but not at all intrusive. We hope to return next year for a longer stay!!!

The Most Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Birdhouse was a wonderful place to stay. Everything was as described and the view was more beautiful than I could have imagined. The house itself was super cute, clean, and well stocked. I enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and staring at the stars.

Nancy and Doug were a pleasure to interact with both via email and in person. I definitely recommend staying here.

Great place. Great area. Great pool. Great people.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at The Birdhouse and loved every minute! The home is very private, clean, and is located in a spectacular setting on a hill overlooking vineyards, mountains, and apple trees. The layout has good separation of rooms so a "morning person" can make coffee while the other sleeps in upstairs.

A separate bed on the first floor was perfect for our guest, one evening. Comfortable couch also turns into another bed, I believe.

The location feels remote and private, yet excellent restaurants, bakeries, wineries, and shops are minutes away, by car.

We loved hanging out by the pool with a glass of wine. The dog loved it too...he appreciated the warm sun after suffering with the chilly fog in San Francisco this summer. So did we, of course!

The hosts, Nancy and Doug, are sweet, generous, and non-intrusive. Great people.

Highly recommended.

Comfortable, conveniently located, private, clean

We felt comfortable and secure. Loved the location. It seemed like we were away in another world but Sebastopol was less than 10 minutes away. Doug and Nancy were available, friendly, and helpful, but never invasive. Lovely experience-we will definitely recommend it.

Just what we were hoping for

  • 5 of 5

The Birdhouse is a well cared for property in a beautiful location. The hosts are the best - friendly, informative, and very helpful. We used our stay to go to Bodega Bay and Occidental for day trips, and were very happy to come back to such a nice landing spot. The nearby Fork restaurant is a can't-miss. Our dog loved being at the Birdhouse too! Would love to visit again!

I stayed here for the days leading up to my wedding and couldn't have asked for a better rental! The host was extremely friendly and the house was everything I was hoping for and more. It had all the amenities in the kitchen, bathroom and living room. The view from the hot tub was incredible, we definitely made that aregular occurrence to enjoy the view and a bottle of wine. I will definitely be staying here again!

Car: necessary

We are 4 miles from downtown Sebastopol, downtown Occidental, and 15 miles from the ocean at Bodega Bay. It takes one hour from our door to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

We are surrounded by many beautiful vineyards, organic farms and orchards. The area is known for its wine, of course, but also for its food and agriculture. There are 20+ wineries within just a few minutes of the house. Sebastopol and the surrounding area boasts a dizzying array of indoor and outdoor entertainment including music, theatre, art galleries, antique stores, restaurants, hiking, redwood forests, beaches, cycling and farmer's markets, zip lines and so much more.

Our property is 2/1/2 acres on the western facing slope in a former apple orchard. Two separate vineyards occupy the hillside opposite our place. The sounds of the local rural farms drift across the wind. On top of the hill across the valley is the 30 acre BioOrganic farm belonging to the amazing restaurant, THE FRENCH GARDEN. You will have to have dinner there!

Little towns surround our place like Graton and Occidental where you can go zip lining among the treetops. In Freestone you can fine one of the most renown day spas or the best bakery ever!

The Russian River is just down the crooked road where you can raft or float down stream. Among the many wineries we are proud to have Korbel Champagne, just to name one.

You might have heard about Napa County and all the great wine. But that is really all they have to offer. We have great wine as well, but we also feature so many more natural wonders to visit.
