Our check in time is not until 4pm but you can use the boat to go and get your groceries and get a jump on the fishing while we are getting the house ready. We do not rent the house without a boat rental, unless you are coming with your own boat.
On your departure day, check out is at 10am, we can either drop you at the airport or in town. Alaska Airlines will allow bags to be checked in four hours prior to departure and there is a small ferry you can then take to the town side if you want to spend your last hours visiting town.
Our home was built by hand from yellow cedar trees cut from the surrounding forest and milled locally and offers:
Large king bedroom with one king bed and two twin beds. Exceptional water and forest views.
1 bedroom with queen and 2 singles. Water and forest views.
1 bedroom with queen bed with garden and forest views.
1 bedroom with one twin bed. Garden and forest views.
And a small loft bedroom accessed by a hidden drop down stair offers a single twin bed. Suitable for teens who like the hideaway, however it has a very low ceiling height for adults and is awkward to access with the narrow ladder.
Bedrooms are provided with high thread count cotton linens.
Our home offers a wonderful beach for exploring right outside the front door with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Trails lead to remote beaches on the backside of the island. Here you can wander the beach in solitude beachcombing or relaxing in peace with a book.
Your hosts Kim and Richard live nearby and are available to help with any concerns during your stay. We enjoy sharing the island lifestyle and you are welcome to join in island adventures; beach combing the back side of the island, hiking in the forest and muskeg; towing home a beach log for firewood, splitting and stacking wood for winter or going crabbing for Dungeness Crab.
Concierge services are also available: housekeeping services; full or partial catering; daily guiding for fishing; beach combing and remote hiking.
We look forward to seeing you here!

Kim Kirby is your host at Pennock Island.
Kim is originally from England and came to Ketchikan in 1990, kayaking here from Juneau a trip that lasted three months. Paddling the Inside Passage was the start of a long love affair with Southeast Alaska and Pennock Island offered a wonderful way to continue to live close to the water with a few more amenities!
Kim started and ran a kayak company in Ketchikan for 12 years before finding the perfect island getaway on Pennock Island in 2005.
She has five acres on Pennock and enjoys sharing the island lifestyle with guests visiting from around the world.
She has her US Coastguard Captain's license and a flying license and enjoys float plane flying around the local area.
She is happy to share with you what makes Alaska so special, be it on the water fishing, hiking the ridge tops or beach combing.
Kim Kirby purchased this house in 2005
Being on the water in SE Alaska is pure joy and living an island lifestyle with no roads means you are on the water all the time. Forget the stress of cars and roads and noise. Here you live a life set to the rythym of wind and tides.
The dog can run free and is the alarm bell when visitors show up at the front door, which is the dock that stretches across the tidal beach.
Snug Harbor House is the last inhabited house on the grid. Beyond is the wilder back side where you can walk the beach for about a mile with no other person in sight.
The interior of the island is untouched and is great to explore following deer trails through the rainforest and muskeg.
People are pretty scarce on the island and it is always a joy to share time chatting if you bump into one another in the bay or along the beaches.
Snow's Cove on Pennock Island offers all the advantages of living a life without roads and cars and all the benefits of a town within a short five minute boat ride. Privacy, peace, wildlife and woodland walks and just plain messing about in a boat are all here.
We traveled to Ketchikan’s Pennock Island and stayed in the Alaska Remote Lodges the second week of June, 2016. From the minute Richard picked us up at the airport, to our day of departure, we could not have asked for a more inviting facility or location; truly an exceptional and authentically Alaska experience. There are no words that can fully describe the proximity to civilization with the remoteness of Pennock Island. From the quaint garden in the backyard, to the low-water tide beachcombing, there’s always something new to see and experience. Bald Eagles were a frequent sight, roosting in the nearby trees on constant watch while taking full advantage of the bounties of the sea. The boat ramp and deck made for easy access, and the Hewescraft Pro V proved to be the perfect watercraft for the fishable waters close by and out to Duke Island and beyond. Although early for the Chinook run, we still managed to scratch out a few Kings, a handful of Halibut, and dozens of the best eating Dungeness Crab on the planet.
Kim is the quintessential host for this true Angler Dream, giving us our space, yet visiting and making sure were had everything we needed for a perfect fishing adventure; we even had the pleasure of fishing with Richard, who is truly the Halibut Whisperer!
The Lodge itself is grand, with an excellent kitchen, roomy and comfortable rooms, hot showers and laundry… what more could four guys fishing need? The answers easy, a Hot Tub that was landed on the ocean view deck via a helicopter!
Kim’s Alaska Remote Lodges (AKA Anglers Dream) will be a return trip for me for sure. Next time I will bring my wife so she can experience the sunsets, the wildlife, and the vast waters surround the island, albeit being close enough to shop.

Kim and Richard are just great, we all love this property, the super boats, gear, everything we need for 3 days of great fishing and crabbing. Everything was perfect. Still your listing does not have show the amount of gear and service Richard provides fore fishing. We brought 3 new guys on the trip and they were blown away. Cannot wait to book again for next year. Thanks again for everything.
Such a wonderful, relaxing vacation! What a treat to have Ketchikan within a 5 minute boat ride, but then the luxury and solitude of the cabin for us to enjoy! The fishing was terrific (even caught a salmon right off the dock!) and Richard our guide was fun, helpful and knew exactly where to go to find our catch. Kim was always available for any of our needs...which were not much...just being there and soaking in the soaring eagles, watching the sea planes take off and land, and enjoying the incredible sunsets made for a most perfect get away!
Kim and Richard were wonderful hosts and great people. They bent over backwards to help us in every way. We even talked Richard into going fishing with us one day and that was the best day of fishing we had. Everyone on board caught fish. The house was clean, comfortable and well supplied, not to mention the great view. I would highly recommend this vacation rental.
The property and owners Kim and Rich are outstanding a very personal touch, we enjoyed everything about it and have booked again for next year! It couldn't have been any better.
We spent the last week of June at Rich and Kim's beautiful home. It was everything advertised on line and more, only the view is that much more beautiful in person. The multitude of bald eagles perching all around the house was amazing. The house was spacious and well-equipped. Loved the large covered porch! The dock is private and new; we loved watching the sun set from the swing. Getting groceries was an experience. They have carts to haul stuff in. you take the boat to the marina, go up the walkway, cross the parking lot to the grocery store, then roll your items back down to the boat. It was part of the charm. We rented the Pro-V 20' boat and it met all our needs - was spacious, maintained, clean and great for fishing. Rich was really friendly and hospitable, showing us some spots to fish and crab. We used his crab pots, headed to the spot he told us, and sure enough enjoyed an amazing crab dinner -from the ocean to the plate the same day. This was truly an easy trip. From the airport, Rich picked us up, we stopped for groceries and on to the island where the house is. Was so glad the house was away from the hustle and bustle of Ketchikan. Check the cruise ship port info and go into Ketchikan when less boats are there. Keep in mind that when they all leave, the shops close down though-even at 3:00 pm. We learned that the hard way..Fishing - we missed the king salmon run, but the silvers were coming in. Fishing was not as plentiful as I had hoped but we had some strange weather -( a few days where the water was too rough) and it takes a few days to get your bearings. However, we left with enough fish to last us for awhile and enjoyed it. We caught a lot of Rockfish, which we were disappointed in at first (because it wasn't halibut) until we learned how delicious they were.. Before I forget-the hot tub. It was heavenly. It was 57 degrees with soft Alaskan rain, but it was 104 in the hot tub. Nothing more relaxing after a hard day of fishing. Can't say enough good things...would highly recommend for a very relaxing, beautiful place for a small or large family. Only thing I would do differently is stay for two weeks next time. Thanks Kim and Rich for allowing us to use your home -and for your kindness while we were there. A fantastic experience.
