About The Owner

My husband and I have owned a home in Placencia for 13 years. We loved visiting the Florida Keys until it became so crowded with people and boats. The Peninsula and Placencia remind us of what the Keys and Key West must have been like 75 or 100 years ago.

Where else in the world can you dive or fish on the second longest Barrier Reef in the world in the morning and cave or hike through pristine jungle mountains and go to waterfalls in the afternoon.

We love it here because no other country in Central America offers so much for so little effort in such a tiny land mass. Add to this the environmentally caring infrastructure and English speaking, friendly, laid-back people and you soon realize that Belize really does have it all.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Belize

The fishing is some of the best in the world and the wildlife viewing is spectacular. It is an adventure lovers paradise.

What makes this house unique

Private yet a five minute walk into the village for great restaurants, bars, and shopping, and local guides will pick you up onsite for tours.

Breathtaking views, beautiful property, wonderful caretaker and guide

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Sunset Pointe in Placencia. It rained quite a bit, so we opted to rent a golf cart in town to make our travels in the rain a bit easier. The home is well appointed, secluded and just as described in the listing. Francisco was great and ensured we were well taken care of during our stay and Alfred was a wonderful guide, from snorkeling, fishing to hiking through Mayan ruins and waterfalls in the mountains.

Owner's Response: Yes, October is our rainiest month but happy to see you were able to enjoy many of the things Be,ize has to offer despite the wet weather. It is most unusual that it rains all day even in October. Most of the heavy rain occurs in the middle of the night and is gone by about 10AM. Renting a golf cart is a great way to explore the village and up the peninsula. We are very close to where golf carts are rented. We are very fortunate at Sunset. Pointe to have such a great caretaker and his family who live onsite and also an amazing guide who will pick you up onsite to do offshore or inland tours. Thank you for your review.

Beautiful and Comfortable

We had a fantastic stay at Sunset Pointe in Placencia. Location is close to town and even during the Rainy Season we could use the provided bikes to and from town in minutes. Furnishing and artwork inspired us to hunt in town for local carvers and painters

Peaceful Retreat

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I recently spent 11 days at Sunset Pointe. We found the accommodations as lovely as described. We took time to relax and enjoy the views from every dock and porch. We usually ate in for breakfast and lunch then tried all the different restaurants for suppers. We rented a golf cart which allowed us to travel to the resorts beyond the airport when we wanted to splurge on a dinner out. Our favourite restaurant was MOJOS on the balcony. The reviews of Tutti Fruiti had us going there every nite for our after supper gelato. My favourite was half peanut butter half dark chocolate but there were close seconds. We really appreciated Averisto's tour of Monkey River. Thank you Janis for all your attention to detail. Visiting Placencia in the shoulder season meant that plans to attend an advertised BBQ, band or restaurant opening might be delayed until after Nov 15 when more tourists are expected. But we made friends with other travellers at the Sunset Pointe condos and created our own fun. In all it was an enjoyable time. I would go there again when it isn't quite so hot.

Owner's Response: Yes, October is one of our hottest months and this past October was warmer than normal. December to March is ideal temperature and at night you may even need a light cover with no A/C, but fortunately all our apartments at Sunset Pointe have A/C in all the rooms to keep you comfortable no matter the temp outside. All our guests love that we have so many places onsite to escape and relax or read. We have two docks one on the Caribvean side with thatched roof and lounge chairs and one at the point that is the fishing and boating dock where guides pickup our guests for tours. We also have three rooftop decks with thatched roof and benches for viewing spectacular sunrises over the Caribbean Sea and sunsets over the lagoon and Mayan,Mountains.

Paradise Found...and Enjoyed!

  • 5 of 5

This was a family trip and my young childrens' first time out of the country. We knew we were in for a treat after reviewing all of the information about Belize and Sunset Pointe but we were not prepared for how amazing everything truly was. The photos and videos really do not do it justice. I highly recommend a fishing excursion with Alfred who I see mentioned in here more than once. He will take you to the best fishing spots and maybe even show you where to (safely) swim with the nurse sharks!

Hatchett Cay was a treat during our ocean excursion as well and was quite unexpected. Of course, one could make the whole vacation a memorable one by just staying at Sunset Pointe with an occasional venture into Placencia village's main area. Such wonderful local artists with their works on display as well as local cuisine and some very hospitable restaurant servers. There is definitely some great times to be had for those without the kids (i.e. newlyweds), too, but my first visit was made special by having mine and my wife there to take it all in.

I believe everyone should make it a point to come here and whether you stay at the Point House's apartment with full kitchen or one of the condos, you will not be disappointed. There are even two docks to enjoy the sunrise AND sunset. I prefer the sunset to reflect on the day, by the way.

Francisco the caretaker and his family are welcoming and warm. Their family lives on-site and takes care of the grounds to make sure the paradise that is to be found still looks that way every day. We will definitely be back and will know that this is the only place to get the full enjoyment out of our stay! Thank you to everyone involved, especially the owners who cannot be given enough kind words for their generosity and hospitality.

Owner's Response: You might be wondering how we could accomadate a family of four in a one bedroom apartment. Since this was Easter week and all the two bedroom units were booked at Sunset Pointe and this family had two very young children and the Pointe House apartment has a king size bed ( the only king bed at Sunset Pointe) . One of the children slept with their parents and the other one slept on an inflatable twin size mattress we have as a spare. We try to go above and beyond for our guests and our caretaker does also. So thrilled we were able to accomadate this young family and they had such a great time!

Vacation in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just spent a wonderful week in Belize, and our only complaint is that we didn't plan to stay longer. The apartment and grounds are beautiful. The pictures give you a good indication, but if anything the reality is even nicer. Placencia Village has lots of nice restaurants to choose from, and Belize has an amazing variety of things to do between snorkeling, fishing, jungle excursions and wildlife, Mayan sites to explore, waterfalls, and much more. Janis was very helpful in recommending what we needed to bring, and guides for excursions and fly fishing. We definitely plan to return, and will stay longer next time.

Owner's Response: You found as so many of our guests do that Placencia is not just for wonderful offshore experiences but for exploring all the inland adventures as well. Staying at the. Pointe. House makes you feel as if you are on an island because you are surrounded by water on three sides yet you have the luxury of being able to drive to the mainland to take advantage of all the other great activities and tours. We look forward to your visit again to do all the things you did not have time for on your first trip.

Sooooo quiet!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived short notice during low season and Janis was super accommodating. Francisco, the caretaker, was pleasant and very helpful, and Alfred was really a gem! First time to Belize, 2nd accommodation and we couldn't have planned it any better. The coconuts falling from the trees startled us at first but once Alfred showed us how to open them they became a treat. I hope we get back to this place and I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Owner's Response: So happy you were able to sample our free juice falling from the coconut trees! Walk outside and pick up and open a coconut in the morning and in the afternoon add a splash of Belize rum and you have a great cocktail. Our caretaker is always happy to show you how to open them and enjoy. Hope you can come back and enjoy all the close by adventures on the mainland like hiking the Cockscomb Preserve to pristine waterfalls and tubing down a jungle river, visiting the southern Mayan ruins, zip lining, taking a boat trip to Monkey River to see the Howler monkeys ,going on one of the many cave tours, and doing a chocolate tour. We have it all in Southern Belize not just the great diving and offshore fishing and island hopping.
