Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was a nice, peaceful place outside of the hustle and bustle of Lake George village. The house was immaculately clean, very cute and well taken care of. We appreciated very much Diane letting us bring our pup with us and also extending our check out time. I would definitely recommend the riverhouse for a nice getaway. We enjoyed ourselves on the kayaks and on the deck. The water is so clean and it looks like a lot of people were having a great time on their boats. We went up to the Lake on Saturday for a wedding and it was an easy drive. Thank you, Diane!

Very peaceful!

Had a great weekend. Lovely, peaceful location yet not far from the activities in the area. Will definitely return. Hopefully, for a longer period of time.

Friend and Rivers Meet

  • 4 of 5

Nice home, Very clean and well supplied with all of the necessary basics.

Our only suggestion would be to put railings on the two entrances to the home, The entrances are both difficult for someone who has difficulty walking or is recovering from surgery. The stairs and railings going down to the water and the firepit are great.

The river is nice for boats but the current is too strong to be successful with w canoe or kayak,

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your time at the riverhouse! The front and back entrances are both two steps. I am sorry that you had difficulty navigating the entrances. We are planning to make the front entrance platform threshold wider to make it easier to enter, especially when carrying luggage, etc. The back two steps off the slider onto the concrete pad and wooden deck are the width of both sides of the slider, and don't seem troublesome. The house is not listed as handicap accessible, due to the two step entrances, however, it is single floor living, which does make it comfortable for elderly, or injured guests to navigate once inside. I do have to disagree about the riverfront kayaking and boating. Many guests, and ourselves have enjoyed kayaking and boating from our docks and frontage. I provide a double kayak and two single kayaks, life jackets and paddles for guest use. The Bay Area of the Hudson is about 10-20 paddles upstream, and I do recommend even experienced paddlers gauge the current by paddling up to the Bay Area first. The Elms (Ridin on Top) is approx 200 yds from our frontage and rents inflatable kayaks, pontoon boats to the general public as well as their guests. The boat launch is approx 3 miles away, and many guests have launched their boats from there, and moored them at our docks. This fall, we will be pouring a concrete threshold on the river landing to make access into water easier and more secure for our docks and motorized boats. The Hudson River provides approx 7 miles of water to navigate between the Bay Area where our house is located, and the falls in Corinth. That being said, the river levels are dam controlled, and sometimes fluctuate, especially during heavier rain periods. Unfortunately, I believe your week fell into that category, as did a good part of our summer 2017 thus far; It has been unusually rainy. I do not recommend kayaking on the river to guests who either have not kayaked before, or have injuries or mobility issues. Additionally, I usually recommend our other vacation rental property Homeaway #3740355, "Mini On Golden Pond" for families with small children, or less active guests, as the 10 acre pond is very tranquil, compared to the Hudson River. The pondhouse does have 13 steps, with a railing down to our gazebo, with approx 4 steps into the water from our landing. I do provide a pedalboat and two kayaks there for guest use. The pond is limited to non motorized boats.

Can't Wait to Go Back!

  • 5 of 5

Diane was there when I arrived and very helpful - showed me around, gave me the tour. The place was spotless, the kitchen large and well equipped, the bathroom recently renovated with thick bath towels. Everything was more than what my friends and I expected. We loved kayaking in the morning. And we're already talking about staying a week next year because two days was just not enough.

The only complaint we had was that we needed more detailed instructions on how to work the DVD player. We couldn't figure it out, but that was the only issue we had. So we ended up watching the DVD on my computer, no biggie. We're coming back again next year.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your time at the riverhouse! And love to have return guests! I will be making a technology "cheat sheet" containing instructions on DVD and TV, as sometimes settings get changed. Sorry you struggled with that; thanks for letting me know so I can try to prevent that for future guests

Fabulous Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay here and we just love it. Clean and convenient with gorgeous view of the River. Wonderful modern kitchen. Upgraded bath too. Diane is a super host and very easy to work with. Locale is quiet, but close to everything. This is indeed a smooth seamless stay and just feels like a second home. As before we ate a couple of times at Up River Cafe which is a treasure in little Lake Luzerne, a quiet town in the Adirondack mountains. We would always recommend River House for a terrific get away. We'll be back next year too.
