My husband, Mat, and I met about 15 years ago while attending law school in Boston and we currently live and work in Connecticut. We've always dreamed of owning a vacation home in Maine and so we purchased the Sea Shell Cottage in 2014.
Susan Lockery purchased this house in 2014
When we were looking for a vacation home we wanted to be within walking distance of the cultural activities that Rockland has to offer visitors. There are restaurants, shops, art galleries and museums all within a very short walk from the Sea Shell Cottage.
Rockland's South End is truly a special place to visit. Guests can enjoy Sandy Beach (1-2 blocks from the Sea Shell Cottage) or take a stroll on the Boardwalk along Rockland Harbor...also just a couple blocks from the Cottage.
The Sea Shell Cottage is not just an ordinary rental. Since we purchased the property, we have worked to make this a vacation place that our guests can truly enjoy! The home has been decorated in seaside decor with a unique contemporary style. The Sea Shell Cottage's floor plan can accommodate large families, or as little as 1 or 2 guests. The home has an inviting coastal ambiance that is sure to remind guests that the sea is very close by!
We loved our stay at this lovely home in Rockland. Very cute and clean home close to everything. Highly recommended!
Our family had a wonderful time at this house. Not only the comfort and cleanliness, but the location of the house, too. We took a few walks and had beautiful views of the ocean along the way. We also walked downtown as this area is close and convenient in relation to the house. The fenced in yard at the house was perfect for a dog!
The home is a clean, well-appointed gem in a quiet neighborhood just a block or so from a great little beach chock-a-block with snail shells! We had everything we needed and, although we didn't do any cooking, the kitchen had all the necessary equipment had we wanted to. It's in a good location in Rockland, close to the downtown area, Primo restaurant, and the weekly farmers market. An unexpected bonus was the back deck with table and chairs and a grill. Also a fire pit, if memory serves. A comfortable spot for relaxing. The owners provided very clear instructions regarding TV operation and wifi, which we have found lacking in other rentals. While we would appreciate brighter lighting and additional bedside lamps, we would certainly look to stay here again given the need and opportunity. I do not hesitate to recommend Susan and Matt's home to others vacationing in the Rockland area.
We stayed here for one week. Home was in a great location. Walk to the end of the street and you are on the harbor walkway. Lovely stroll into town along the harbor, convenient to restaurants and shops. Liked eating at The Pearl, in town, at the end of the harbor walkway. Home is well maintained, inside and out, and very clean. Home has lots of good space inside, very convenient to have a bathroom and bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms with another bathroom upstairs; allows privacy if there are two couples. Owners supply you with bed sheets, bathroom towels, tissues, toilet paper and paper towels, so no need to shop for those things. Also, nice deck with a table for eating, as well as a small sitting area, out the back door of the home. Rockland is a nice little harbor town with a short drive to Camden and a longer drive to Bar Harbor. Walk to Breakwater Light on a warm, sunny day, was one of the highlights of our trip.We very much enjoyed our stay.
We enjoyed four weeks at Shell Cottage, ate seafood every day and added bird species to our "life list." Jess's seafood store three blocks away. Visited four museums and several parks. Even saw a moose on our way to St. George. We expect to return to Rockland next year for a longer stay. By all means, splurge on going to Primo. We went there for dinner the last two nights of our stay.
