The house was a nice size and exactly what we needed. I think maybe a management company would bring this place up another star. It was little things like the lack of toilet paper, paper towel, dishwasher tabs, no batteries for the remote and I went to do a load of laundry and the lint trap for the dryer was totally clogged that were annoying more than anything. Overall, the house was clean, beds were comfy and the rental process was easy. We enjoyed our stay.
This was my second experience with HomeAway and completely opposite from my first. This home is run down. We were surprised to see a broken window in the kitchen and even more surprised by the state of the home. I feel as though we should be refunded the cleaning fee. Upon arrival, we went straight to the store to buy cleaning supplies and basic staples such as soap for the bathrooms and toilet paper. All of the under sink cabinets throughout the home were a filthy hodgepodge of nothing I would want to use. The door handle was loose on the back door and the screen for the front door required a bit of fixing to make it useable. The kitchen faucet will be a larger job for the owners. All of the wood of the counter is rotted and the faucet wobbles all over. Two of the burners on the stove didn't work. The carpets were filthy complete with large, sticky soda spills that splashed up onto the walls. On our first use of the living room sofa my son was blotched with dried ketchup. The amount of dust I cleaned off of the ceiling fans and window sills could have been used to knit a sweater. The chain on the living room fan was broken, so we had to make do with the low setting in that room. Needless to say, it was HOT! All the mattresses could stand to be changed. My 10 and 9 year olds took it upon themselves to fold up random blankets and tuck them under their mattress pads in order to add a little comfort. The bed my parents were using was broken! When looking under their bed you could see the slats and box spring resting in a V on the floor. We collected extra pillows and placed them under the mattress to fill in the hole. If this was my first HomeAway experience, I would not be back.
As soon as you walk in it feels like a home - not a holiday rental. The furnishings were more than adequate and there is cushions, throws, vases, pictures - all making it feel homey. The lay out lends itself to family gatherings - with two living areas and a large open plan kitchen with a huge deck just outside. It comfortably slept 7 adults with comfy beds and bedding - it is all very clean. Great washer and dryer. The location was great for us to attend a family wedding in Mackenzie Town and easily accessible from the Deerfoot (Hwy 2) - also very close to the South Health Campus. There is a bus stop just across the road. There are pleasant walks through parkways to the Bow River and a 10 minute walk to Sobey's and Good Earth Cafe. Anthony was very responsive to all my email questions as I was booking from the other side of the world, answering almost before I sent them! I felt it was good value for money and would certainly recommend it and use it again if the need arose. Thanks, Anthony for the use of your lovely house.
The good: The house is very nice, and bewautifully decorated. It was also walking distance to a couple of different parks and that was very handy since we had small children with us. The yard was a nice size and the patio furniture was awesome!! We spent evenings outside barbecuing and hanging out in the sun. Location is also great. Easy access to the Deerfoot, and many different grocery stores and amenities are all a short drive away. Anthony was very kind and allowed us to add days onto our reservation when our plans changed as well. He was very responsive whenever I contacted him.
Now the bad: when we arrived the house was not clean. The floors had not been washed, and the rug in the living room was very stinky and dirty. We had to spend a couple of hours getting things cleaned up and also buying some supplies I felt should have been there for us...eg we had to buy our own hand soap for all the bathrooms. The house is also on a very busy road. It made me a bit nervous walking out with my two toddlers...just a heads up. There were also several thing broken upon our arrival.
Anthony was very appologetic when I brought these issues up to him. He said he had some bad renters before us and that his cleaning lady was a bit older and he didn't have the heart to fire her.
Overall, we made this into our home for two weeks and enjoyed our stay. It was a nice house for a family of 4 and we had a lot of space. My only complaint was in the cleanliness, but if you come prepared to clean a bit when you get here, the place is worth it.
House had a well lit house number viewable in the dark as we arrived very late. Owner had texted instructions on how to get in making it very easy as he was out of town at the time. Located in a quiet residential neighbourhood but close to food and stores. Lots of blankets, pillows and towels but some bathrooms did not have hand soap in the dispensers. Had a cool mid-level living room with TV to hang out in. Backyard patio looked well equip with lots of chairs although we didn't get a chance to use it. We would recommend this property to others.
The property is very well presented and has everything needed for a family during a holiday. We stayed for four days over Christmas 2015 and were warm and very comfortable despite the cold weather. Cooking a Christmas meal for 7 was easy with the facilities provided in the kitchen.
I thoroughly recommend this property to potential renters.
