I am a 70 years old lawyer working for the building department of the capital city Reykjavik in Iceland. I was born in Reykjavik and live there.
Bjarni Thor Jonsson purchased this cottage in 2006
I have many relatives and friends in this area and was working on a farm as a young boy. I have always loved this part of the country with all its attractions and beautiful landscape.
When this ground came for sale 10 years ago I did not hesitate to buy it. I could choose from several situations but this one had it all. On a hillside with mainly grass, moss and blueberries late August and September and a great view from the hillside over to the mountains.
The house is very nice and comfortable with lots of space. Everything is new and in perfect condition. The owner is very friendly and helpsome. Sitting in the hottop you have a beautiful view of the mountains and the sunset. We recommend the house very much.
First, Bjarni was so helpful and made our first trip to Iceland so easy. The house is truly spectacular. There were 5 of us and we all felt like we had so much room. We saw the Nothern Lights on our last night. The house sits on top of of small hill which makes it perfect for star gazing and watching for the lights. It was so wonderful to be able to sit in the hot tub while it was snowing. It snowed everyday and my boys had so much fun playing in the snow. The house is the perfect location if you want to do the Golden Circle. If I could give this house 10 stars I would.
We can't wait to come back. Truly perfect place!!!!
This cabin was perfectly appointed for our family. Everything was clean and in good shape. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bedrooms and bathroom served us well, the dining area was great. We used the guest house for part of the family who had young children, so they could sleep without being disturbed. (Bjarnie had also made sure we had a crib and high chair for the baby.) The hot tub was a treat, as was the sauna. We loved the view from the porch. And we got to see the Northern Lights during our stay! Bjarnie was a wonderful host, who even met us at the airport in the early morning hours to launch us on our Iceland adventure. He made sure we knew where to get groceries and gave us excellent travel advice on a snowy day, as well as his GPS, which proved to be necessary. Our biggest challenge was finding the snow covered driveway when we got into the vicinity of the cabin. Bjarnie had recommended a 4 wheel drive vehicle for our February visit, which was a good suggestion.
We just returned from the most wonderful stay at Bjarni's property. From start to finish, it was a wonderful time. Bjarni was incredibly generous and offered to meet our group at the airport (for a very early arrival time!) and lent us his GPS to ensure that we found the cabin.
Upon arrival, we found a spotless and beautiful vacation home waiting for us with all the amenites - plenty of towels to use to enjoy the hot tub and sauna, games for the evenings, even a pair of binoculars to watch the sky (we were lucky to see the Northern Lights one of the nights we were there). We thoroughly enjoyed spending time as a family on the property - whether in the hot tub, around the kitchen table, or looking for the lights to appear.
A word about logistics - we visited in February and were quite worried about driving in Iceland. Although we encountered very difficult road conditions (packed snow, ice) for much of the trip, we were able to make it everywhere we needed to go.
Thank you for the wonderful hospitality - we were truly enchanted by Iceland and would love to visit again some day!
From the moment we booked we knew we had picked a good one. The owner, Bjarni, sent us lots of information about the property, the area, maps, weather forecast links etc etc. He was really helpful, answering all our questions and even met us at the airport on arrival to explain in person and lend us his sat nav! The cabin itself was idyllic, set in stunning Icelandic countryside with lovely views and a cosy, welcoming wooden interior with a wood burner. It had been stocked up with tea, coffee, games, towels, toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets etc. which was really handy so we didn't have to buy any of the basics before we got there. The cabin is split into two halves, which was ideal as we were staying with another couple so we had the smaller cabin (with en suite and sauna) and they had the main cabin with the lounge and kitchen. Hot tub was great fun and we got to see the Northern Lights in all its splendour directly in front of it for over an hour, an incredible experience. There are Icelandic horses in the nearby fields which makes for a nice walk to go and see them. We loved everything about our holiday here and definitely plan to return!
My partner and I just returned from Iceland having traveled the bottom half of the country for a week and spent two glorious evenings here. We can't praise this place enough , the photos don't do it justice ... The owner was nothing short of fantastic, meeting us ahead of our stay at our hotel in Reykjavik with all the information we required and some extra, so very thoughtful. The property itself is spotless and the nicest log cabin we've ever staying in. Everything is clean and cosy, you have all the things you could need in the kitchen and the bed was very comfy... the hot tub and sauna were also very welcome on the blizzardly evenings! If you're there in winter brave th elements to climb in the hot tub... sitting in the warm as the snow blows by was a great experience! The views were breathtaking and I imagine in summer they will be even more so. We will be returning and friends having seen the photos we posted on social media want to stay here too. 5 stars all round.
