About Bjarni Thor Jonsson

I am a 68 years old lawyer working for the building department of the capital city Reykjavik in Iceland. I was born in Reykjavik and live there.

Bjarni Thor Jonsson purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Bjarni Thor Jonsson chose Iceland

I have many relatives and friends in this area and was working on a farm as a young boy. I have always loved this part of the country with all its attractions and beautiful landscape.

What makes this cottage unique

When this ground came for sale 10 years ago I did not hesitate to buy it. I could choose from several situations but this one had it all. On a hillside with mainly grass, moss and blueberries late August and September and a view from the hillside over to the mountains.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The house is very nice and comfortable with lots of space. Everything is new and in perfect condition. The owner is very friendly and helpsome. Sitting in the hottop you have a beautiful view of the mountains and the sunset. We recommend the house very much.

Fantastic Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic trip. Bjarni was a wonderful host. He met us at the airport at 4:30 AM!!! Provided us with his GPS to locate the cabin and was available for any needed assistance. The cabin was SPOTLESS and fully stocked with everything you might need. ( the only challenge was how to operate the stove... for us English speakers.. maybe English instruction?) None the less we figured it out. We used the cabin as a base for traveling throughout the southwest portion of Iceland and the Golden Circle. We were able to see and photograph the Northern Lights from the deck and gazed at the stars ( and lots of satellites) almost every night from the hot tub. The sauna was relaxing after hiking and sightseeing.

The restaurant in Fluidir; The Grund was DELICIOUS and the hostess was most gracious. We loved the self serve greenhouses for fresh produce. The cabin held a family of four and the guest house held our friends. The beds were most comfortable... in fact our friends searched online to purchase one for their home.

This is a great cabin with a wonderful location for sightseeing trips and a gracious host. I do not think you will find a better palce to stay!

Wonderful cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is the best log cabin I have ever stayed in. It is perfect. We had a wonderful stay; it was so relaxing and the views with the ever changing winter weather were amazing. The cabin is exceptionally well equipped and the memory of sitting in a hot tub while it is snowing will stay with me forever. Bjarni was incredibly kind and helpful, as was his neighbour, who helped us with our car.

I really cannot fault this rental on any way.

Amazing property, great location and helpful owner

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four who stayed here for a week in late April. Bjarni was incredibly responsive and easy to work with. He even met us at the airport at 6 AM and provided a GPS with the coordinates for the house preprogrammed. He also kindly provided other helpful tips about area amenities and places to see. The area is very quiet with a great view over the valley and river to the mountains beyond. We were able to see the Northern Lights. The town of Fludir is a few minutes away and has a small grocery store and great swimming pool. Larger stores in Selfoss are only about 30 minutes away. The location is convenient to Reykjavik (a little over an hour), the Golden Circle (30 min) and the scenic vistas of Vik (about 90 minutes). The hot tub fills and empties automatically with geothermally heated water. We highly recommend Bjarni and his wonderful home.

Amazing place, amazing owner!

  • 5 of 5

We came to Iceland for the purpose of eloping, and to take my sister, her baby and her husband (who is Icelandic-Canadian) to see their homeland. My husband and I did much research, our main non-negotiable was breathtaking views. This place did not disappoint! You are right in the middle of the golden circle, the cabin is exactly like the pics but when you finally see it in real life, its like you forgot an the wow-factor kicks in. Bjarni was an incredible host! We had conversed with him on the phone after we made a formal request, sent the money, and later met up with him in Reykjavik when we were out to dinner the night of our wedding. He is extremely thorough. He will provide you with an incredible briefing package, including hidden hot-spots to enhance your adventure. This place is in the middle of nowhere; which adds to the appeal, but you are literally minutes down a deserted road to get to Fludir's grocery store and amenities. We were 3 couples (my Dad and his wife were also there) and one baby viking and it was more than comfortable. In a sentence: Stunning views; excellent hospitality; serene; hot-tub (under the northern lights, and geo-thermally filled and emptied after every use); sauna; private; close to geological attractions and more than one washroom and more than one shower- this is THE place!!! Highly recommended by all my family, would definitely return!!! Thank you Bjarni for trusting us with your beautiful summer house!!!! We had the greatest week!!!

Simply Breathtaking!

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect cabin this was! Extremely clean, comfortable beds, amazing views and every amenity you could need (including a washing machine, hot tub and sauna)! It was conveniently located to many of the major attractions in south Iceland and five minutes from a cute little town with a grocery store. We had five people and found it very comfortable for everyone. I believe it could even hold seven or eight people comfortably. Lastly, we found the owner of the home to be extremely friendly and easy to work with. He was able to answer any questions we had. We definitely plan on returning to this location on our next visit to Iceland.
