Built in 1896 by Dr. W.B. Robertson, this house which is located next door to the Yancey County Historical Musuem, is the oldest private residence in Burnsville. It was newly renovated in 2010 with all the modern amenities, but still retains the old-time charm with high ceilings, hardwood heart-of-pine floors, wool rugs, custom wormy chestnut cabinetry and woodwork throughout the house. Private steps lead to Main St where you will find art galleries, a first run movie theater, full service restaurants and our charming town square.

In 1971 my grandmother bought this house in order to be close to her college sweetheart. The house has been passed down to my mother and then to me. I hope someday to pass it on to my daughter.
Nice kitchen. Standard TV and better beds would be helpful. Nice little town. Good restaurants and shops
The Robertson House was THE perfect place to stay to celebrate a girls' weekend. The house was beautifully decorated with doors and windows that opened up to let in the late Spring mountain breeze. We loved feeling as if we were in a private setting in a lovely mountain valley while at the same time being only a few steps away from downtown. It was great for a mixture of fun and relaxation. We enjoyed exploring the shops and also had a blast going across the road in the evening for drinks at the sports bar. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed, from dishes to ROKU to cozy linens. We were just so comfortable and grateful for this open, pleasant house and our wonderful stay here. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay in NC!
If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, and convenient place to stay while visiting the beautiful NC mountains, this is the place! Very clean and spacious, this home brings you the charm of an older home with new, modern conveniences. We will definitely be back!
My wife and I, and our three daughters, stayed in the Robertson House during a recent visit to Burnsville NC. What a gem! A block away from the town square, you can easily walk to local restaurants. House was built in the 1890s, but has been recently renovated with modern features where important: kitchen, HVAC, internet, etc.. Highly recommend!
We had a very relaxing stay at the Robertson House. We arrived to an impeccably clean and impressive home. It is a historic home that has been completely renovated with modern conveniences. The beds and furniture were very comfortable and inviting. The owners were very easy to work with and checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The house is just steps away from downtown Burnsville. We enjoyed the snow while we were there and returning back to a warm and cozy house! We highly recommend a visit to the Robertson house. You will not be disappointed. We plan to be back in the Summer! Thanks again Susan and Sylvia for an awesome weekend!
We enjoyed our stay at the Robertson House very much. We found the home very clean and welcoming. The renovations to the house have been done in good taste. We enjoyed the swing on the front porch, the private location, yet nearby downtown Burnsville where we enjoyed walks and a couple of great meals at nearby restaurants. We also appreciate how helpful the owner was with answers to our questions.
According to the Yancey Chamber of Commerce, Yancey County has the largest population of crafts people per capita of anywhere in the US. Many studios and galleries are open year round. We provide maps and brochures for many area artists. If there is a particular craft you are interested in seeing please drop us a line and we will be happy to help facilitate your search.
