Located six miles from the quaint town of Burnsville and 36 miles from Asheville, this house sits on 10 acres and offers you the opportunity to relax and enjoy the mountain air. We are close to Blue Ridge Parkway, Penland School of Art, Boone, Mt. Mitchell, Sliding Rock, Grandfather Mountain and many other local attractions. Plenty of hikes and nature. This is a family home that is full of love and care.
The house has been remodeled in 2009 and all carpets removed and the original wood floors restored and new flooring throughout. New paint inside and out. New kitchen counters, sink and dishwasher. Lots of TLC given to this house. It has been in the family for over 35 years. A heating monitor installed along with a wood burning fireplace for those chilly nights.
The home is situated on a dead end road with easy driving access and one story home with no stairs!
Plenty of deer on the property and wild turkeys - just look out the back porch to see them grazing in the field behind you.
The town of Burnsville is a quaint town full of arts and crafts, great restaurants and shopping.
Grab a glass of wine or sweet tea and sit out on the front or back porch and watch the deer, wild turkeys and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Or cozy in with a fire and watch a movie with popcorn. JUST ENJOY!

This is Jim and I at Roan Mountain National Park which is less than an hour drive from Burnsville and it had just snowed in the area. We love going to North Carolina to hike, enjoy the fresh air, the peaceful environment and just relax. There are so many sights and attractions less than an hour away and there is something for everyone at any age. We have family members with vacation homes within a mile from us so able to bring big groups up if we want.
This is a family home that we purchased from my parents and has been in the family for over 35 years. There are seven children in our family and my parents needed a place to escape the Florida heat and a place to bring us for vacations and they fell in love with this house and Burnsville. They remodeled the home but kept most of the original structure and bought ten acres to go with the property. We visit the house as much as possible and always look forward to our trip to NC.
Cozy, clean and as many of our guest have said 'you just want to sit down and stay awhile' so come and sit awhile!
My wife and I just spent 10 fantastic days in the very comfortable well maintained/updated “Happy Apple” farmhouse. It was exactly what we expected. A quiet and somewhat eclectic home that was “livable” for more than a weekend or couples days.
Everyday, we had coffee on the front porch and in the evening a glass of wine on the rear deck. We enjoyed watching deer and occasionally wild turkeys in the pasture behind the house and found the hummingbirds a never ending source amusement. The country, farm like setting was a wonderful stress reliever. As stated in other reviews, the kitchen was well stocked and comfortable to work in.
The owner, Karen, was a pleasure to work with. She responded to all my phone calls and emails promptly with ready answers and lots of local knowledge of the Burnsville area.
If you’re looking for a quaint and quiet place to spend a couple of days or a couple weeks, you’d be hard pressed to find a better place than the “Happy Apple” farmhouse.
House was great. The kitchen had great pots and pans with a well stocked pantry. This would be great for a small family or a girls weekend retreat. Very close to town but you feel like your are in the country. Definitely would stay there again, my children loved it as well.
We lost our home to a fire January 23rd of this year (2014). Our home was one driveway above the Happy Apple Retreat. During our state of shock at losing all our material things, we contacted the owners of the Happy Apple to see if we could stay in their farmhouse until we could get back into a home of our home. When you basically have nothing but the clothes on your back, it is a blessing to walk into a home where that is actually all you need. The owners told us to go to the house immediately and they would have someone there as soon as possible to turn on the water and the phone. (The house had been winterized, and with no guests for the winter, the phone service had been disconnected...but the heat was on, and in zero degree weather, it was a welcomed surprise.) The owners have graciously let us stay in their farmhouse until our new home is ready for us to move into. We should be leaving this cozy, wonderful, home away from home, by the end of July so someone else can experience the charm and unique character of this one-of-a-kind house. As to the owners, they will always have a special place in our hearts.
Charming country home in the mountains.
My Aunt and I travel each August to the area to visit family and attend Decoration Day. This house was such a nice treat, we rocked on the porch many afternoons. The kitchen is fantastic and well stocked. The bedrooms clean and very comfy as were the bathrooms. We loved the hardwood floors and Karen was very helpful when I couldn't get the wifi working (it was me not the wifi).
Also, each day this huge, friendly dog visited us and became the receptiant of our leftovers LOL
I highly recommend this home if you are in the Burnsville area on vacation or for whatever reason.
