About the property

2 Bedrooms + Other, 2 Baths, Sleeps 4

Located six miles from the quaint town of Burnsville and 36 miles from Asheville, this house sits on 10 acres and offers you the opportunity to relax and enjoy the mountain air. We are close to Blue Ridge Parkway, Penland School of Art, Boone, Mt. Mitchell, Sliding Rock, Grandfather Mountain and many other local attractions. Plenty of hikes and nature. This is a family home that is full of love and care.

The house has been remodeled in 2009 and all carpets removed and the original wood floors restored and new flooring throughout. New paint inside and out. New kitchen counters, sink and dishwasher. Lots of TLC given to this house. It has been in the family for over 35 years. A heating monitor installed along with a wood burning fireplace for those chilly nights.

The home is situated on a dead end road with easy driving access and one story home with no stairs!

Plenty of deer on the property and wild turkeys - just look out the back porch to see them grazing in the field behind you.

The town of Burnsville is a quaint town full of arts and crafts, great restaurants and shopping.

Grab a glass of wine or sweet tea and sit out on the front or back porch and watch the deer, wild turkeys and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Or cozy in with a fire and watch a movie with popcorn. JUST ENJOY!

About Owner

This is Jim and I at Roan Mountain National Park which is less than an hour drive from Burnsville and it had just snowed in the area. We love going to North Carolina to hike, enjoy the fresh air, the peaceful environment and just relax. There are so many sights and attractions less than an hour away and there is something for everyone at any age. We have family members with vacation homes within a mile from us so able to bring big groups up if we want.

Why Owner chose Burnsville

This is a family home that we purchased from my parents and has been in the family for over 35 years. There are seven children in our family and my parents needed a place to escape the Florida heat and a place to bring us for vacations and they fell in love with this house and Burnsville. They remodeled the home but kept most of the original structure and bought ten acres to go with the property. We visit the house as much as possible and always look forward to our trip to NC.

What makes this house unique

Cozy, clean and as many of our guest have said 'you just want to sit down and stay awhile' so come and sit awhile!

Great mountain getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was such a sweet little house...perfect for our family of four. It is away from town, so perfectly dark skies for stargazing and viewing the Milky Way! We live too close to the city to see such things, so it was a real treat for us. We also loved the apple trees in the yard! The house was neat, clean, and welcoming. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Great Little Mountain Farmhouse Near Burnsville, NC

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my Border Collie and a traveling partner were looking to relax in the mountains of Western NC .. we came with no agenda other than to visit Asheville and to go to the summit of Mt. Mitchell and just enjoy the beauty of the NC mountains. The farmhouse was as described in the listing .. very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The owner, Karen, was very responsive if we had questions about the area or the house. Burnsville had a number of shops and restaurants and we spent a bit of time in town. As far as eateries in Burnsville, the "Blind Squirrel" was our favorite .. we ate breakfast at "The Pig and Grits" which was good as well .. we also visited several gift shops in town for artwork by local talent.

We spent a day in Asheville .. mostly in the art district .. which was enjoyable and a fairly quick drive from the farmhouse .. ate at "The Twisted Laurel" which was very good. Lastly, we spent some time in Mt. Mitchell State Park and visited the summit at almost 7000 feet .. very worthwhile for the panoramic views. It was a clear day and the views were remarkable.

For anyone looking for a quiet, clean, comfortable place in a NC mountain town, the farmhouse will deliver. We would stay there again. Thanks, Karen, for sharing your house with us.

Owner's Response: THANK YOU! And so glad you got to enjoy and see and do so much in the area. I will have to try The Twisted Laurel in Asheville as we love going there every time we visit. Hope to have you back! Karen

Property was as described.

  • 4 of 5

The property was as described and a good value. Everything worked fine but we were in the sweet spot where neither ac nor heat was utilized.

Burnsville has some small town charm.

I was put off, however, by this property coming to my attention as a Asheville cabin.

It is 40-60 minutes from Asheville, not what I call convenient.

Owner's Response: I don't describe it as an Asheville property and will have to see if HomeAway/VRBO is putting it in that category. I know I say we are 35 miles from Asheville. I do apologize that you thought this property was closer. Burnsville is a very cute town but it is not Asheville either. Thank you for your input.

Wonderful farm cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just spent 10 fantastic days in the very comfortable well maintained/updated “Happy Apple” farmhouse. It was exactly what we expected. A quiet and somewhat eclectic home that was “livable” for more than a weekend or couples days.

Everyday, we had coffee on the front porch and in the evening a glass of wine on the rear deck. We enjoyed watching deer and occasionally wild turkeys in the pasture behind the house and found the hummingbirds a never ending source amusement. The country, farm like setting was a wonderful stress reliever. As stated in other reviews, the kitchen was well stocked and comfortable to work in.

The owner, Karen, was a pleasure to work with. She responded to all my phone calls and emails promptly with ready answers and lots of local knowledge of the Burnsville area.

If you’re looking for a quaint and quiet place to spend a couple of days or a couple weeks, you’d be hard pressed to find a better place than the “Happy Apple” farmhouse.
