Everything about Nance's place was perfect for our needs and Nance was fantastic to deal with. She even took the time to sit and visit with us and share a bit of the history of the area with us. We cannot say enough about the property or the owner other than we can't wait to come back again.
My husband and I stayed at Kate's for six nights, and our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer! The accommodations were stylish and clean, the location was private and beautiful, and Kate was the perfect hostess. It's well over a thousand mile drive from our home, but it was so right for us that we have already booked for next year...bringing our kayaks next time!
We had a great, relaxing time at Kate's place on Marble Hill! The views were simply amazing; every morning we got to wake up and see Port Hood Island and sparkling ocean waters when we looked out the window or sat on the deck. Everything was great, can't wait to book our next trip back!
My parents and I had a great time staying at Kates vacation rental overlooking port hood island. The views are great, the atmosphere is very laid back.
The place was very roomy and very nicely decorated, you can see the pride Kate takes in her home. There was a detailed list of everything in the walk out so there were really no questions.
The location is close to grocery stores, the beach , and a quick drive to Mabou and Inverness.
We could not have found another temporary home more delightful than this one. The view from the porch was astoundingly beautiful. The effect of the light on the water and the islands to the west was arresting and moving. The rooms were appointed tastefully and every need was anticipated and met. All of the appliances were up to date and in perfect working order. Our beds were sufficient to give us the rest we needed to continue each day's exploration of this island. There were many restaurants and pubs within a half hour drive north or south that were first rate. For us the area and the excellent road system provided the perfect access to the musical offerings of KitchenFest in it's numerous venues and anchored by the Gaelic College in St. Anns. We would gladly come back every year and will -providing we win somebody's lottery. This is a five-star venue for a vacation in Cape Breton we would happily recommend it to anyone.
My husband and I just stayed in Kate's walk-out basement apartment for the first week of our honeymoon. We were looking for a "home base" where we could stay during our day trips through Cape Breton.
When we pulled up to Kate's house, we were absolutely blown away by the view - a stunning view of the ocean, Port Hood Island, and the town of Port Hood below. We originally had plans to be out and about everyday, but we ended up taking two afternoons out of our trip to simply enjoy that view with a bottle (or two) of wine. The apartment itself is wonderful. It did not feel like a basement at all - it has a ton of windows, so there is plenty of natural light. We had everything we needed - an open-concept kitchen with modern appliances, a dining table right beside the window where we could continue to enjoy the view, a cozy sitting area, two very nice bedrooms with ample closet space, a big bathroom, access to a washer and dryer, and a private deck right outside.
Port Hood itself is a very nice little town. It has restaurants, a great little grocery store, and a gorgeous beach with some of the warmest ocean water I've encountered in the Maritimes. It was the perfect location for us as a home base - we could easily access the Cabot Trail from there, and it was so nice to be able to stay in one place for the entire week.
Kate was a wonderful host. She gave us all the privacy in the world - it felt like we had the whole property to ourselves - but she made sure we knew she was around if we needed anything at all. When we asked Kate to have a drink with us one evening, she was extremely friendly and fun to talk to. She is very accommodating and eager to make sure you have everything you need.
When we travel to Cape Breton again, I sure hope Kate's place is available! We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Thank you, Kate, for such an enjoyable week!!
