About Owner Patricia Ropp

The Orchard House began as a small photographers cottage down on the shore in Hulls Cove. Some time around the early 1900's the cottage was moved up to the orchard. It escaped the Great Fire of Bar Harbor in 1947 but burned to the ground exactly 50 years later in 1997. We rebuilt the house, bigger this time because our family was growing and now the house's story has seen another change. We look forward to welcoming guests to the Orchard House for a fifth year and for them to enjoy the house and its surroundings and to become part of its story too.

Guestbook comments from the manager

It was so wonderful and memorable times at your house. Everyone told me that it was the best vacation house they have been. You and your son are so kind and had helped whatever we asked. Pictures in your house are full of artistic. Your garden is so romantic. We really enjoyed so much there since your house and your kindness.

Well beyond our expectations for comfort, location and hospitality.

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin? Orchard House was selected by my group of very close friends from around the country (4 couples) to spend the week enjoying some well deserved rest and relaxation. I organized for the group. From the onset, Trish was there for me to work out any questions I had and offer suggestions on local restaurants, shops and of course Acadia.

The accommodations were like being at home and stocked with everything anyone could need for a very comfortable stay. The grounds were reminiscent of a period farm with old apple trees throughout. "Critters" like deer and wild turkeys wandered freely in the area eating apples that had fallen to the ground.

The feeling of privacy yet close to all shopping and activities was happily discussed within our group and we were literally within 15 minutes of anything we wanted to explore. The sun and salt air assured us all that good nights sleep awaiting after a busy day in town or in the park. We cooked local lobsters and "steamers" from the many sellers of fresh fish and I cheated one night with a 14 lb rib roast for our group. For the cooks in your group, you won't be wanting for all the utensils needed to cook anything.

For those looking for authentic "Down East" hospitality, accommodations, scenery and charm, look no further than Orchard House and Trish Ropp,,,perfect stay. Thank you so much Trish, we loved it!

met all our needs

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house and the companion Farmhouse for a family reunion of 18 adults. We had more bedrooms than needed but rented both so we had a better bathroom situation. This house has been nicely modernized. It's well stocked and met/exceeded all our needs. In addition to bedrooms it has a big living room/dining room space that could easily accommodate all of us for gatherings. Also a lovely deck with tables etc. It's away from the bustle of Bar Harbor but only takes a few minutes to get there. Also, the Chart Room - a very nice restaurant - is in easy walking distance.

Conveniently located to Acadia national Park entrance.

  • 4 of 5

Our family stayed at this lovely charming home situated very conveniently to Bar Harbor and the entrance to Acadia national Park. The house provided ample space and 5 very comfortable bedrooms and sleeping loft. Should we return to the area, we would not hesitate to book Heirloom Orchard House again. Patricia Ropp could not have been nicer to deal with.

Beautiful home and wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

Our entire family enjoyed the Orchard House! The home is beautiful, modern, clean and with plenty of space to spread out for 8 adults and 4 babies. The bedrooms are wonderful with one king and all queen beds, which is very hard to find. We loved the kitchen for making breakfasts and lunches and then the deck was perfect for sitting out and eating together. Our hosts provided everything needed for a great family vacation. The location of the house is a very big plus. So close to both downtown Bar Harbor and to the entrance to Acadia National Park. As our daughter said, "Mom, this place is truly magical." Thank you so much, Trish, for a wonderful week in Maine.

Beautiful property and wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved this vacation home. It was spacious enough for eight adults and four babies with no one feeling cramped. The beds were comfortable (it is not easy finding a home with all queen and king beds for our family) and the three large full baths were beautiful. The kitchen is new and modern and has everything needed to make meals. We loved sitting on the deck early mornings with our coffee and bagels. And possibly the best part of the Orchard House is its location. It was easy to get to Bar Harbor and to Acadia National Park in just minutes. Hiking, swimming, tea and popovers at Jordan Pond, and beautiful trails for Grandparents who love to stroll. We loved everything about this vacation stay. Thank you Trish for sharing your beautiful home.
