Hi! I'm Loraine!
We love Idyllwild! Being in the real estate field as brokers, developers and investors for over 40 years, my husband and I know a choice property when we see it... and this is one! It took us all of five minutes to decide we had to own this treasure. It's the ultimate Idyllwild vacation home! There is something about Strawberry Corner that brings back memories of a sweet life, of baking pies and sitting by the fire, of feeling a part of a little town. This home gives everyone a feeling of the 'way it used to be'.... it enchants, delights, relaxes and intrigues all visitors. It just feels like 'home sweet home'. Places like this are priceless and it is our great joy to have our guests experience the same feelings we have every time we open the antique wood door with the stained glass strawberry window! This house is perfect for those who want healing, restoration, romance, quality family time with the kids of all ages, peace and quiet, creativity, and personal renewal!
Loraine Dyson purchased this cabin in 1998
We purchased this home in 1998 when our daughter was three so we could have an authentic vacation lifestyle far from the busy cities or glitzy resorts. Idyllwild was clearly the best choice since it's within easy driving distance from the desert, San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles. We loved the 'Norman Rockwell' small town feeling and the darling stores, crafting, hiking and great restaurants. It's so picturesque there! We feel safe and secure being so close to the village and were blessed to find a home that reflects the history of Idyllwild. It's been wonderful here and we would like to share the experience with others. We love being on the creek, which is a prime location in Idyllwild. We felt this home had it all! Location! Creek! Charm! Condition! There is something about Strawberry Corner that brings back memories of a sweet life, of baking pies and sitting by the fire, of feeling a part of a little town. We love all the seasons! In the winter it's a WINTER WONDERLAND and the snow makes for a magic we rarely get to experience. SPRING brings out the colors and the green, SUMMER is divine with sunshine and warmth! and of course the FALL is enchanting with the leaves turning and a crispness to the air. Many guests have said it's the most romantic place they've been and we've had one proposal! Just sitting around relaxing and talking after a hike or stroll into the village is so great. I have to say it's really super for afternoon naps on the comfy couch too!
We just returned home from our trip to the cottage! What an amazing place! I knew from the pictures that it would be cute - but I was overwhelmed with all the wonderful touches and such clever decorating. We had SUCH a nice time! It was absolutely perfect for our anniversary.
This charming house is ideally situated for a first time stay in Idyllwild. It is an easy 5-10 minute walk to the center of town which allows for convenient food shopping (a Fairway and an organic food store/cafe), access to a very good coffee house, and for browsing the local galleries and shops. Several restaurants and a take-out pizzeria are also within walking distance. Hiking trail heads are a 10-15 minute drive. The house is large, comfortable, well furnished and has a great fireplace. It is set amidst tall mature, pine trees, one of which projects up though the extensive wood deck which extends out from the back of the house and then wraps around one side with steps down to the large side yard with a path that leads to a gazebo. Out the back, the deck overlooks a babbling brook. The deck is gated and is completely fenced so that dogs (we had three with us: two toy poodles and a Brittany) can be left there safely. The entire yard is also fenced The house has a well provisioned sit-in kitchen as well as a separate dining room. The description of the house on VRBO site is accurate.
The owner Loraine was timely in her responses, clear, helpful, courteous and generally a delight to deal with.
I am a 70 year old retired museum curator and was traveling with my companion, Ellen, is a 59 year old lawyer. We spent four nights in the house; for two of those nights we were joined by Ellen's 24 year old nephew and his wife.
A good time was had by all (including the dogs). We did not need to use the separate guest house on the property.
We had a wonderful special stay at Strawberry Corner. Loraine was so gracious in letting us schedule our stay around unexpected healthcare needs. The cabin was not only well kept, but spacious and very comfortable. We even had our own visiting squirrel who really like the brazil nut left at the door outside of the dining room door on the deck.. With just the two of us the space was huge. This was the first time we experienced heating blankets and just loved it. (We bought one as soon as we got home for our bed.) The property is very special with a creek and lovely grounds.
We were able to do a little work due to the excellent internet service also.. We had to call an order in and walked to the closest shopping area to search for a pay phone. The post office and the library don't have one we found out when we went into the grocery store. A very friendly resident insisted we use hers. The town is most friendly and charming. It's a great place close by for that very special escape!
We truly enjoyed our mini vacation here. The bed was warm, cozy, and we slept soundly in it. We loved how roomy it was and the location being so close to town was perfect! We loved being able to walk to town. Thanks so much for a relaxing atmosphere!
Strawberry Corner was a great fine. The cabin is quite spacious and very homey. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and enjoying the nature that surrounded us. Celebrated my retirement with my girlfriends. Will definitely go again.
We stayed at Strawberry Corner for our last 2 nights of a 3 week road trip. This gorgeous vintage property is exceptional in every way possible! The owner has decorated this charming cottage to exude a warm and cosy feeling from the first step inside....and gets better and better throughout! There were only 2 of us but the property is capable of sleeping 9-10....it is much more spacious than it appears from outside. It has a creek side back deck adjoining the cottage with a covered gazebo a short few steps away....with tall red woods and huge ponderosa pines towering over the property which is a short walk away from the charming shops and restaurants of Idyllwild. There is a lovely guest cottage attached to the garage. The owners have decorated this property to perfection....with vintage cottage magazine attention to every possible detail.....it was undoubtedly a labor of love. Unfortunately, due to extreme drought conditions at the time of our stay, we couldn't light the fireplace.....but it's not hard to envision how cosy that scenario might be on a chilly winter evening! Just can't say enough about this property.....we've travelled extensively...this stay will always stand out in our memories!!!
