Sunrise Side Escape

We loved this cottage. It was very secluded. Trees all around. The cottage itself was adorable. Very eclectic decor which we loved. It had every thing you will need to stay, relax, cook and enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Which you can see from the cottage or go to the beach. Every morning we were there was a fabulously colorful and breathtaking sunrise. The beach was sandy and had plenty of shells and stones for collecting. They had just added a great deck and comfy furniture. We spent many hours there just relaxing and reading. There was a gas grill or charcoal to use. We cooked every day. All the things you would every need were in the kitchen. The beds were very comfy and had the softest sheets I have ever slept on. It was very clean and every thing worked great. The owners were so nice. They gave excellent directions and we had no trouble finding the place. They left a very nice book with local attractions and restaurant information. We were invited to add to it if we found fun things to do. Which we did. Tait's Bill of Fare in Oscoda was a great place to eat. The Lumberman's Monument was awesome. As was the Scenic Bi Way to get there. The Au Sable river was beautiful. The people in the area were so nice. We loved Harrisville and Oscoda. We also went to East Tawas to shop. Great shops there. We would highly recommend this cottage to all our friends and family. And to anyone that wants a nice getaway.

Perfect and Relaxing Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

What can I say, this past weekend was easily one of the best that my family has had. Michael, the owner, met us upon our late night arrival and showed us where everything was in the home, gave us some pointers for the local area, and was quick to give us our privacy. In the morning on Saturday he cleaned off the deck with a leaf blower, popped up the umbrella on the patio set, and put the cushions out in the chase lounges before we were even outside. The home was clean, well stocked with anything we could need, and the views from the deck were nothing short of perfect. The property has trees all around which make for a nice secluded and private setting. Their was a sandy little path from the deck right to our own beach area which was absolutely perfect. The beach was really clean and sandy, there were barely any rocks in the water, and the view was amazing.

The deck had some nice lounge chases and a patio table with chairs and a huge umbrella. There were also some really nice beach chairs that were provided for us to use at the water. The deck also had a nice size chiminea that we used each night for a fire to make smores on. A gas and charcoal grill, as well as charcoal and fluid were provided, we used the charcoal grill 3x and it was great. The wood we burned was also provided and on site. Michael has suggested a local trout farm only about 10 minutes up the road, it ended up being one of the best parts of the weekend! My daughter caught 3 beautiful rainbow trout, they were cleaned and prepped for us, and that evening we grilled them for dinner and had a beautiful setting to dine on the deck looking out at the water.

There was a nice little swing set that my daughter enjoyed, as well as a hammock and a fore pit with chairs down by the lake. We enjoyed some festivities in Harrisville, took morning walks along the beach, and had dinner looking out at the lake each night. There was a nice little outdoor shower for getting the sand rinsed off after a day at the beach which was very useful. Have I mentioned the gorgeous views??

All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone looking for a great weekend away to enjoy some of what "Pure Michigan" has to offer. The privacy, beach, cleanliness and accommodations, and much more made for a perfect retreat to get away from it all and enjoy some time with family. THANK YOU FOR A GREAT WEEKEND!!!!!

Just right!

  • 5 of 5

I love to research beach houses and new towns before we decide where we are going to spend some time for a family getaway. This beach house was just what we were looking for. The guesthouse was small but perfect for a family of 4. The walk to Lake Huron was a skip away with a cup of coffee...just never caught a sunrise because it was overcast in the morning. We loved spending the day at the beach. We had fires at night and spent a lot of quiet/fun family time without tech! If you travel here, make a stop at the trout farm, the Sturgeon's Point Lighthouse and take a fabulous kayak trip on the AuSable River. The owners of this house were perfect to work with and very accommodating. We will return....

Beautiful, Private Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at this property for a girl's weekend getaway! We stayed in the smaller of the two houses on the property (no one in the larger one while we were there) and it was great for the 5 of us. We spent most of our time at the private beach and eating on the deck. The view from the back yard is amazing and we loved the quiet atmosphere. We spent a night at the fire pit making s'mores and looking at the stars.

A couple comments for future patrons: if you're coming in the summer, bring a couple fans. The house provides a box fan but we could have used a couple more. Also, the water smelled a little funny to us. I'm sure it's perfectly safe to use but us city folk bought a couple cases of water.

Overall, it's a great property and we had a fantastic time. We will definitely consider this property again next year! Thanks to Michelle and Michael for a well planned and well executed trip!

Another great weekend up north!

  • 5 of 5

Great experience! We rented this home for a quick get away up north and it exceeded every expectation! The reservation process was easy and Michelle was great to work with! She provided timely updates and answered all of our questions. The property was great and the beach was perfect! We got an opportunity to talk to the homeowner, Michael as well and he was nothing short of amazing! All around a great weekend! Thanks for having us!

Sunrise Side Seclusion

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at the cottage exceeded all our expectations. The place was clean and bright and breezy. The spacious deck is just a short, 20-second walk from the cottage. And what a view from the deck - the beautiful blue waters of Lake Huron are crystal clear. We enjoyed the privacy of the cottage being tucked away from the main road and the wooded lot secluding us from neighbors. Just a great place to kick back, relax and listen to and watch the gentle waves lapping at the shore. We also enjoyed the charcoal grill and the chiminea on the deck. The property management is exceptional and made us feel very welcome. The kitchen amenities are sufficient but basic and could perhaps use some updating (no measuring cups/spoons, etc). Our only wish is that the area in front of the large picture window in the cottage were cleared somewhat to allow a view of the lake. The surrounding area offers plenty to do - we canoed on the Au Sable River, attended the Sunrise Side Wine and Food Festival in Harrisville, took a day trip to Mackinac Island, and toured Iargo Springs. All good fun! We'll be back for more.
