400 ft. private beachfront along Lake Michigan on 10 private acres. Welcome to our classic A-frame beach front home on Lake Michigan in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. If you come during winter, the snowmobiling will not disappoint. There are many groomed trails in Manistique - along the Manistique River and through scenic forests. There are 2,000 miles of groomed trails winding through the U.P. Hike around on our 10 acres, or head out to some of the best hiking trails in the state. Indian Lake State Park, Fox River Pathway, Ashford Lake Pathway.

A propane grill will get your group fired up for some great meals. If you bring your four-legged friend, there is a fenced in area behind the garage. The beach is adjacent to the cottage. If some grown-up entertainment is required, The Kewadin Casino will pick you up at the cabin and return your group (of at least 4) as well. Unique day trips are popular with all of our guests: Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is 59 miles; Tahquamenon Falls State Park is 85 miles; Mackinac Bridge is under 2 hours. The land between the cottage and the beach can be weedy and muddy, depending on the weather. Cell phone service at the cottage is virtually nonexistent, but we have a landline for your use.

We have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, plus a main floor full kitchen. Although there is not air conditioning at the cottage, opening the windows in the Upper Peninsula, normally provides the ideal breeze to keep the cottage at a comfortable temperature. Plus, we have fans at the cottage as well. We have well water, so at times there is a sulfur smell that occurs. Normally, that dissipates once the water is run for a period of time. The joys of natural well water.

Sleeping arrangements:

*Linens are provided*

Bedroom #1 (upstairs in an open loft): King size bed.

Bedroom #2 (main floor, adjacent to the kitchen): 2 twin size beds

*Pets are welcome! Freshwater Vacation Rentals currently charges $50/per pet.

Big Springs "Kich-iti-kipi": Michigan's largest freshwater spring. Two hundred feet across, and 40-feet deep. Over 10,000 gallons a minute gush from fissures in the underlying limestone at a constant 45 degree Fahrenheit. By means of a self-operated observation raft, visitors are guided to vantage points overlooking fascinating underwater features and fantasies. Ancient tree trunks, lime-encrusted branches and fat trout appear suspended in nothingness as they slip through crystal waters far below. Clouds of sand kept in constant motion by gushing waters create ever-changing shapes and forms, a challenge to the imagination of young and old alike.

Indian Lake Golf Course: A very popular, 18-hole golf course along Indian Lake. Just 5 miles from the Cabin.

The Kewadin Casino: It is approximately 10 minutes (7 miles) from the Lodge. If you make reservations, they will pick you up at the cabin and return your group as well.

Historic Manistique Water Tower: The Old Water Tower is one of the many historic sites in Schoolcraft County. Built in 1923 and constructed in the "Roman revival" style, it is also listed in the national register. The renovated building will provide space for arts related public events and public rest room facilities while preserving one of Manistique's unique and historic buildings.

Fayette State Park & Historic Town site: Fayette was once one of the Upper Peninsula's most productive iron-smelting operations. Located on the Garden Peninsula at Snail Shell Harbor. When the charcoal iron market began to decline, the Jackson Iron Company closed its Fayette smelting operation in 1891. It is now a completely restored village including 22 historic buildings, museum exhibits and the visitor center, which can be toured May through October. The historic site is located in Fayette State Park.

Snowmobiling: There are many groomed trails in Manistique for you to enjoy. Here is a great link to trail maps, distances and other helpful information.

Mackinac Bridge- approximately 2 hours away.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore- approximately 2 hours away.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park- approximately 1 hour 30 minutes away.

Our philosophy

We work hard so you don't have to. Our goal is for guests have a wonderful vacation experience and assist our owners in maximizing their investment. We started this business 10 years ago, with the purchase of Republic Island, and added the Rapid River Lodge. We have a unique perspective, as we are both owners and property managers. We love the business and are enjoying it as it grows.

Why Freshwater Vacation Rentals chose Upper Peninsula Michigan

Privacy, simple private sandy beach (depending on the water levels) about 300 yards from the cottage.

What makes this cabin unique

Seeing Lake Michigan the moment you open your eyes as you sit up in the king-sized bed upstairs.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for a wonderful weekend. We have family in the area and this was SO much better than staying in a hotel room. We took a walk on the beach this morning, enjoyed the eagles and spending time around the fireplace. The view is absolutely spectacular and we will definitely be back!

There is NO air conditioning at this cottage. Though rarely needed in the Upper Peninsula, it is ideal to leave the windows open at night to leave in a cool evening breeze. My favorite part of the cabin is waking up in the king sized bed and the first thing I see is Lake Michigan.

Quiet and secluded

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful views, quiet and very clean. The house had everything we needed as a family of four plus a dog. We have no complaints about the rental itself, but the area left a lot to be desired. A couple of local restaurants lacked friendly service, we felt like unwanted outsiders. Luckily the kitchen at the cabin was stocked with plenty cooking utensils so we decided to cook and eat "at home". Be aware that there is zero family friendly entertainment within an hour driving distance for those of us with children who don't enjoy the quiet and relaxing as much as the adults do.

Owner's Response: We are happy you enjoyed the cabin! Yes, the kitchen is fully equipped. We are sorry you did not receive friendlier service from the towns-folk. Hopefully your dog enjoyed his/her vacation as well :) Thank you for choosing Freshwater Vacation Rentals. We hope you consider booking at one of our 54 properties for your next family vacation.

Great property! Excellent views! Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful experience and relaxing time spent on the shores of Lake Michigan. The home was well equipped and little necessities were needed to have a great time. If there were any concerns noted it would be that we were unable to locate the tongs to the electric mixer- haha our fingers and a few forks worked just as well! The owners of the property were extraordinary and went out of their way to help when we experienced transportation difficulties. There were always "care takers" takers in the area and community transportation available for us at

Minimal cost. This was a wonderful place for respit and made an even more exceptional when forced into unexpected downtime. We had the entire area to ourselves and our fury friends 2-dogs with little concern for their roaming. The area is scenic and well supplied with area stores. If you are looking to work offline the quiet is supreme. If you are looking to work online- this may be frustrating for you. It worked great for us and we Would stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We love the Manistique area too! We were happy to have you for even more time than you initially anticipated. I agree, our lake house is an ideal place for pets, since you don't need to worry about them roaming, barking or disturbing a neighbor. We look forward to your next stay, where I promise your fingers won't need to double as mixer tongs. Sincerely, Cara
