About Joe and Agnes Nines

We would like to extend to you our most heartfelt welcome and warm wishes for an enjoyable stay!

We hail from the Philadelphia, PA area, but have family in Madison and visit often. Joe is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Private Practice and Agnes is an Insurance Executive and Consultant specializing in Health, Life, Disability and Absence Management.

Joe and Agnes Nines purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Joe and Agnes Nines chose Madison-on-the-Lake

In 2010, we spent our first vacation in Nova Scotia utilizing©. We had a wonderful experience and have since spent several vacations away from home in the warmth of homes of other© rentals. This inspired us to consider joining that movement and in 2013, the opportunity presented itself to purchase The Cottage ON GROVE. We use the home ourselves for getaways when visiting family in the Madison area, but are also hopeful that this experience is a homey and comfortable place for you and your family.

What makes this cottage unique

We take pride in our home and trust that you too will feel right at home during your stay.

Awesome little house

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this house before, and just like before, it was perfect for us! The kitchen is stocked with all the basics to cook so we don't have to eat out for every meal. They even have beach towels available for us to borrow and a washer and dryer which is so nice for use after a day at the beach. We will definitely be staying here again!

Long distance hosting and lack of promised amenities

  • 2 of 5

>Landlord/host did not call or email us prior to our arrival. We had to call him after we arrived. Good thing we had brought their phone number along with us. Our call went to voicemail. When he called us back we learned that our landlord was at a meeting in Chicago but lives in Philadelphia. The entrance door number sequence which he gave us over the phone did not work. We had to call him back and he gave us his own personal login which we used all the time we were there.

>Light fixtures and one bedroom overhead fan light are broken or disassembled in several rooms. You can't use one bedroom's ceiling fan because the light won't shut off.

>Netflix will not open because the cottage does not provide the log in. Instructions say not to log out of the account. Some one before us had done so and we would have had to pay to watch Netflix.

>Same thing with Vudu. I tried to watch a free Vudu movie with commercials and halfway through the movie the streaming internet connection was too slow. Vudu stopped loading and the ISP terminated the movie, even though we were streaming in the slowest non-HD speed.

>Dish network for watching TV would not display TV guide and stations. Two remotes and neither would access the TV feature. There were no directions provided. Good thing we brought our own reading. We had no media access as promised.

>Screen is tiny and in the worst possible position for comfortable viewing.

>Not a single lawn chair despite a front lawn and a very private back lawn. Previous tenants said the same thing. We brought our own and sat in the front in the evening when it cooled down.

>Dryer was full of wet towels and bedding when we arrived. My wife dried the dryer's contents and left it all neatly folded and stacked. You're welcome.

+The kitchen was nicely furnished and the floors were new looking and clean.

+The table on the porch was way more comfortable to eat our meals than at the counter with the hard stools.

+The front door keypad lock worked fine once we figured out how to use it. You have to type the four numbers quickly. If you pause between a number, it goes red and cancels the login. Some instructions would have been nice.

+The window air conditioner worked well but it blows on anyone sitting on the couch, the only seats in the living room. We moved the couch forward out of the line of the cold air blast and underneath the couch was moldy garbage and trash. We cleaned it up. We put the couch back before we left.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your business and thank you for your candid review. I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay and intend to address the issues you cited as quickly as possible. I'm afraid I have no explanation as to why you did not receive an automated Pre-Arrival email 7 days prior to your visit as our HomeAway account is setup to do. The Pre-Arrival email includes everything you need to know to access the Cottage. Also not sure why your access code did not work, except that there may have been some sort of malfunction on my part. I am looking into remedies to ensure that this does not happen again. I just spoke with our current guest and provided verbal instructions for signing into the Netflix and Pandora accounts. Written instructions are now included through the Hospitality App, which we encourage all guests to access. We take a great deal of pride in our Cottage and will work to ensure that each and every guest has the best experience they can. Thank you again for your candor and we hope that you might consider visiting us again to be sure we responded to your concerns so that you might have a 5 Star experience.

Clean and quaint cottage. The owners are responsive and kind. Basic, nice, and affordable.

  • 4 of 5

Our family stayed here comfortably. It was nice for our kids to have a space to spread out. The fold out couch worked well and was the coveted place to sleep as it was comfortable and cooler. We liked eating on the front patio with the curtains pulled back. The beds were a little squeaky which made me nervous that I'd wake my baby sleeping next to us. The owners responded quickly when they found out we were needed something in the house. We enjoyed our time at the beach and in Historic Kirtland. I think we were all wishing that we had one more day. The pictures led me to believe that the beach was on or very near the property. We were a little disappointed that we couldn't run right out the door to the beach. Overall it was a simply beautiful stay.

Another pleasant stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our second vacation at the grove and once again we found everything to be great. Wish the kitchen area was a little bigger, the refrig is not getting a tight seal. Must push it hard to make sure it's closed. Could use an exhaust fan in bathroom. Only turned on a/c for one day. The weather was cool for us. Thanks again.
