About Roger and Mary Manning

We purchased River Perch cabin as our personal vacation home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We named our home River Perch because the cabin literally sits perched atop the mountain side offering beautiful views of the river and mountains. It is our peaceful and stress free destination to relax and unwind. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Roger and Mary Manning purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Roger and Mary Manning chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

We had looked at several homes in nearby towns of the Blue Ridge Mountains and this actually was the very last property on our list.

Once we stepped on the porches and walked to the back of the cabin , we just stood and admired the beautiful views of the river and mountains. We knew this was the one for us.

We love the privacy of the cabin , but also the security of being in a gated community. We also chose this area because our travel time from home is less than 5 hrs.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin is the perfect private getaway to unwind and relax and to just take in the beautiful views. It is also located in close proximity to several nearby towns and attractions for those who would like to get away for the day. There are canoe & tube rentals nearby. state parks to visit, winery tours , historic sites, quaint shops to browse in, Ashe County Cheese Factory and store in West Jefferson, farmers markets nearby, and many other attractions.

Beautiful, clean, modern, great kitchen!

  • 5 of 5

Spacious and airy retreat in the treetops where you can relax on the porch and look out at the river and the mountains. Each of the three floors has a bedroom with its own private bath, so there is plenty of private space indoors, and there is a well-equipped modern kitchen - great setup! Nice big dining table that seats six, and spacious living room areas (there are two). Comfy furnishings, comfy beds. All around just great, including the hosts. Recommended!

This is a very nice home in a quiet location with a million dollar view. The owners are very easy to work with and the house is nicely appointed. Don't go here if you want a restaurant or a supermarket around the corner, plan to cook most of your meals.

Plan to spend some time with friends on the deck watching the river pass by. The access to the river is really special.

Very impressed

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay. The cabin exceeded our expectations in both the view and the comfort. We felt completely secluded during our stay but when we needed something we didn't have to go far. I would highly recommend staying here and I intend to come back! Loved it!

Christmas at River Perch!

  • 5 of 5

My family spent Christmas at the River Perch cabin and we had a wonderful time. The cabin was even decorated for Christmas. The cabin was perfect for three introverts and one extrovert, as there were plenty of places to escape into privacy. The mountain and New River views were spectacular from the deck. We recommend River Perch without reservation.

Beautfiul cabin with stunning views!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was beautiful, clean, and had everything we needed! We sat out on the porch in the evenings enjoying the view of mountains and the New RIver just below. Mary was also an amazing host. She quickly answered questions we had before and during our stay, as well as shipped a pair of shoes we had left behind! During our visit we went to Mt. Rogers, hiked along the AT trail with wild horses and gorgeous views for miles. We also went into Sparta for dinner one night. Thank you Mary and Roger sharing your cabin retreat!
