My husband and I live year round in Maine. We spend the summers on Peaks Island as have generations of his family.
Jean and John Gulliver purchased this Cottage in 1898
Why Jean and John Gulliver chose Peaks Island
Peaks Island is a place once visited to which people return over and over again. Our cottage captures the sense of many summers days enjoyed with family and friends.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our views are unique on the island, and we treasure them as we hope you will too.

Once again a great get away. Introduced two new friends to this wonderful cottage. Jean is a delight and I enjoyed my conversation with her husband John telling me the history of the family cottage. Looking forward to next year already! Deb
Wonderful stay on Peaks Island!
We were on Peaks Island for a wedding. Everything was as listed- great location, walkable to everything and beautiful views.. thank you!
I came to this delightful home with my brother and his family for a few days away. My brother and I had vacationed on Peaks Island as children and had not returned in decades. We had a wonderful trip and the Gulliver's charming home really made it special. We highly recommend this beautiful location.
Classic Maine island summer cottage.
We loved out stay at the Gulliver's cottage. Its build in in the classic, Maine cottage style, full of wood, and traditional feel. We'd definitely stay again.
Nice cottage, plenty of room, responsive owners. Have to provide your own sheets and towels, a pain.
The cottage was nice and served my purposes just fine. The owners were responsive to questions, which is important. I enjoyed sitting in a lawn chair in the back yard just gazing out to sea. Drawbacks were: 1) this thing with having to provide your own sheets and towels is a ridiculous nuisance that I've never come across before anywhere in the world, but apparently it is fairly typical on Peaks Island; 2) I couldn't find any heat in the cottage, which I could have used because it was getting chilly; guess I could have called the owners; they did provide lots of blankets, so it was snug in bed. All things considered, this was pretty good. The cottage is about five or six blocks from the ferry, so walkable if you don't feel like renting a golf cart. Not much use in paying the steep ferry fare to bring a car over to the island. Cheers!
We are so pleased you enjoyed the views and the cottage. I am sorry however that you didn't use the linen rental service on Peaks. We write about it because so many folks do use it. Perhaps next time.
Also there is heat in the cottage, propane heaters. One is located in the kitchen the other is in the living room, again next time you can warm even before you go to bed.
Visiting Peaks is a bit of a time travel experience which many of our guests consider part of the charm.
Thank you Larry for taking the time to share so many ideas with us and our future guests. Jean and John
Peaceful & picturesque island with fun things to do!
We really enjoyed our stay on quiet Peaks Island with our family and 90 year old grandmother. The 100 year old house is charming and has a nice view of the ocean and the actual beach where you can swim. I did wear a thin wet suit to swim "laps" parallel to the shore and loved it. You can walk down to the beach through the back yard and walk to town in just 8 minutes. The restaurant the Cock Eyed Gull has fabulous food for foodies, just make a reservation. The ice cream shop has delicious and innovative flavors. An important note, if you want a week long rental golf cart book it months ahead of time when you book the house. They are reserved very early. You can do impromtu daily rentals fairly easily. If you bring your car, the ferry is $72 round trip so you won't want to go back & forth with your car a lot. We did leave the island with our car 1x to visit Booth Bay Harbor. the other trips we just rode the ferry as passagers. For those who love to run or walk for exercise, it's only 2 1/2 miles around the entire island. The backshore is just beautiful with rocky coasts. Definitely see it with your car, golf cart, rental bike or on foot. It is so lovely to totally leave city life and enjoy the island pace. Portland has tons of land and sea tours. Our favorite was the sunset tour of the lighthouses. So plan your logistics with transportation and enjoy a wonderful vacation.
Thank you Jacqui for capturing Peaks so beautifully. Also thank you for your suggestion that we add window exhaust fans in the bedrooms in addition to the the ceiling fans, done. Climate change has warmed up Maine, which is nice for swimming but not for sleeping.
Hope you come again. Jean
