About Karen Draper
We are a Colorado family who have been vacationing in Mexico for over 30 years. We fell in love with Sayulita more than 20 years ago and were very fortunate to be able to buy our home in 2005. We are so happy to be able to share this magical spot with people from all over the world. Our Casa is our part time home and you will find it has everything you need to feel at home too.

Why Karen Draper chose Sayulita
Sayulita is a wonderful town and personifies all that we love about Mexico. It is so easy to get to Puerto Vallarta from all over the US and the short drive up the coast sets the scene for the vacation experience. We always feel a thrill when we turn off HWY 200 and make our way under the Sayulita welcome palapa. Less time is spent traveling and more time relaxing. When we first saw the house, we saw its potential, fell in love with the views and saw a garden transformed into a lush tropical respite. We have continued to work on the house since day 1 and our frequent repeat visitors love to see what else is new.

Great family gathering place
We found plenty to do and it is also just a great hangout spot. We cooked most meals at the house and the kitchen has everything needed.
Thank you Diane.
I’m glad to hear that you found what you needed in the kitchen and hope you all had a wonderful vacation.

A complicated experience -- beautiful and rustic
I have really complicated feelings about our stay at Case Del Cielo. The goods: the view is gorgeous. The house is sweet, with lots of beautiful decor and the house is loaded with everything you need. The property owner is responsive and lovely. Having meals outside overlooking the dramatic scenery was breathtaking.
The more complicated: this place is a lot more rustic than we expected. That was fine (mostly) for us, but it was not for my older parents.
The layout of the place is mostly open air, which meant that we had nightly visitors (tejon - sort of like raccoons), who we found in the living area looking for food. You have to lock everything (every door and gate, with many different keys) and the lock system is really particular. It took a while for us to understand how to navigate the house, and in our case no one was there when we are arrived, so it took us a while to get accustomed to it. The layout is also a bit challenging for small kids (rooms are far apart from the top floor to bottom floor). The steep hill was too much for my parents and they were uncomfortable driving a golf cart up such a steep incline.
And finally, we saw two scorpions, one of which I was stung by in the house. Now this is Mexico, and stuff like that can happen - but it's important to know that this place is exposed to the elements (kitchen, dining areas are outside). If you are there during a rain storm (like we were), the house gets WET and the critters emerge.
So overall, this place would be well suited for adults and older kids who can handle the steep hill and being far away from each other in rooms, and who like a somewhat rustic experience.
Amazing Experience, Beautiful Home
My family was looking for a special place to celebrate various milestone birthdays, and Sayulita and this lovely home did not disappoint. The pictures for the listing, while inspiring, do not quite capture the breathtaking views and the beauty of the home. The home and town are magical! We were all smiles all week long as we enjoyed the views, pool, veranda and kitchen, walks up and down to the village and beach. Karen was very helpful ahead of the trip with tips and recommendations, and she was very responsive when we had questions. We were a party of 9 with 6 adults and 3 kids and everyone had an amazing time. We highly recommend staying at Karen's when you are in Sayulita.
Thank you for your kind remarks.
We are so happy your vacation was such a success! Please come back and stay with us again.
We loved our stay! This beautiful home was everything we could have hoped for. We found the owner, Karen, to be very pleasant and available if we needed to communicate with her. We rented a golf cart, as we had two small children with us. We would love to return one day!
Thank you for your great review.
It makes us very happy to have our guests enjoy their stay.

what a treat!
This is simply a gorgeous house. Tons of character and comfort, with beautiful Mexican crafts and artwork throughout, curated to a level you wouldn't expect with a regular VRBO. The grounds are also meticulously cared for, with dozens of beautiful potted plants all around. The whole house is 'open air', cooled by lots of fans, high ceilings, whitewashed walls and about a mile of dark green tile upstairs. We were surprised (but delighted) at the total lack of flies or mosquitoes. We liked the house's proximity to the main road, and being able to pop down for coffee or tortillas first thing in the morning, if we were willing to 'run the steps' of which there were a sporty 149, starting at the top of a short but steep cobblestone street. For half the week we did rent a golf cart (along with a boogie board) which was fun too. We followed Karen's directions and were able to catch the bus both ways from Puerto Vallerta airport and back, which didn't take that much longer than a taxi, but added to the adventure. Hats off to Karen and the Caretakers for pulling together all the parts and pieces needed for such a great experience!
